It's been a while since I have been here since I moved away from the area but they are still excellent. Purchased an Easter wheat pie for Easter and the pie was outstanding. Very rich with a lot of candied fruit in the filling and an outstanding crust. I know they specialize in crumb cake which is also top notch here but they don't disappoint with other items. Wow finally I get my birthday cupcake from an actual bakery. I was so disappointed at my old bakery in Passaic NJ. I can definitively say the Paneton that is made on the premises beats out every boxed Paneton I've had, including the Italian ones. A friend of mine a while back gave me a package of pignoli cookies as a gift. Decided to go in and pick up some for myself for the holiday. They were on a table out front and they were marked as being about eight dollars and change each per package. I asked if they could possibly put 2 it in a separate pouch two times over. In the process of this it turned out I found out I got undercharged. Wanted me to give up another almost $20. I know they can tend to be expensive, but I thought they were just small packages. Ordered a handful of items that included a cake, cake pops, cookies, cupcakes and mini 2 oz cakes. Communication with the bakery was fairly easy. They were receptive of our requests. The cake, cookies and and cakes pops turned out really nice is appearance and flavor. Three stars because on the day of pick up, it seemed like the workers were stressed and still working on the order at the time of pick up. We were shown each order except the mini cakes which turned out to be the order we had the biggest issue with. The drive back to our event venue was smooth but everything was toppled over and could barely be saved. We were given the option to wrap this order for an additional $6 ($.50 each in the dozen) but I highly believe the safety of each order should be standard at no extra cost. So I heard about this place and drove over 30 minutes one day to try their Tres Leches cake before I committed to a birthday cake. It was good but dry... the driest I've ever has. It wasn't soaked overnight as most are and needed more milk. He said that it was soaking since this morning, but he can make my order more wet. I told the kid that my order needed to be more on the moist and wet side and he wrote it down and placed the order. I told him to make sure it wasn't dry. When I got my cake, we cut into it and the cake was DRY. The height of the cake was about 5-6 inches, and only 3/4 of an inch of it was wet with the tres leches. I'm really annoyed because it feels like i'm served my guests just dry pound cake. The quality is not there and the cake itself feels like a very dry commercially dry pound cake. read more

We looked on line while in the car and my son said "this place looks cute". I am a chocolate freak, but the cakes that were there (and it was late on a Saturday) did not ring my chocolate chimes. But this little hazelnut cake was calling to me!! What a wonderful cake! Though I do recommend smaller than usual size as it does pack a sugar punch. But pleasantly, the sugars all have different taste and texture. I've been to the Hackensack pastry shop since the new owners took over at least three dozen times, and was able to find most of the Italian pastries that they were taught to make and they were pretty good. Today I went, and could only find a few of the many that the former owners taught them how to make. There were no cannolis, and only two Sfogliayella in the shop, which the previous owners always had plenty of those on hand, because they were one of the biggest sellers. They completely did away with the Rum Baba's I'm hoping this was a rare occurrence as I have always bought there because they were unquestionably the best in the area. read more

I had a tres leche (Three milk cake) cake from this place not too long ago. The cake was so good I licked the plate. I went there to buy one on the next occasion and it was even better. How can they make it better! Today I had the opportunity to try one again and it was oh so good. It is a very moist ale made with whipped cream instead of butter cream, so it doesn't taste as sweet as a your typical cake. This place makes numerous cakes and they all look delicious. My family has gone to this bakery for over 50 years and my husband would travel 2 hours to get my birthday cake from them for 20 years. The new owners have not followed any of the recipes. I needed a last minute cake to celebrate my birthday and I called the Hackensack Pastry Shop and they had carrot cakes available! They had different sizes, I picked the smallest size. It was a last minute request, but they were very accomodating. I was able to walk in to the store and pay in card. No other customer was inside, and there was a sign to wear a mask, as suggested by social distancing guidelines. Everyone loooveddd the cake.
