The moment their you don't smell the egg rotten on the cake it smells fine but half way driving to his uncle house it started to smell like a lot egg but rotten . Before entering they only have them there in boxes sitting there only not sure for how many days but i don't recommend this place seriously the worst . Horrible experience with the owner who baked the cake herself. I ordered a cake for my mother's birthday and when we cut the cake that evening it was uncooked in the middle by the filling. It tasted raw and smelled spoiled. The next day I called very politely to state that the cake was undercooked and was going to bring it back. The lady that answered who claimed to also be the person who baked it and owns the business said it was absurd that the cake was undercooked. Her approach on the phone was already unprofessional. When I arrived at the bakery she continued to state it was not undercooked and gave me a million excuses and continued to disagree with me. She continued to go back and forth with me while she had a client inside the bakery. I told her how embarrassing it was that she was acting this way while she had a client waiting to be helped. She said she did not care and would say and do what she wants in front of whoever. I repeatedly told her that I was not here to argue and simply get my money back. There was no motive for me to make this up and bring back a cake if it would've been edible. My family and I have made several orders from this bakery in the past and never had such an issue. I beleive one time we ordered a cake and it was really dry, but it was edible and we did not complain, and continued to make future orders. Very unfortunate that business owners scoop down to such an unprofessional and disrespectful manner to their customers. I have never experienced anything like this. As she proceeded to engage in being offensive she finally went to go get the cash and gave me money. As soon as she gve me my money back, I left. There was nothing left to be said, she was not trying to understand or reason. I would've even taken another cake if she would've offered to bake us another one for pick up the next day. Also, I rubbed some cake on her counter to show her how mushy and wet it was. She repeated to state it was not raw and continued to not want to take any responsibility. She got upset I rubbed it on her counter, but honestly she was so nasty that was nothing compared to how she was speaking and treating a customer. Please have respect for yourselves and who you give your money to. This place does not deserve loyal customers. I will never make another order here. I wish the business owner a ton of continuing success and may she receive professional guidance on how to treat her customers. read more

I was looking for a dominican cake in NJ while I was driving around. I Google for a bakery, and this place came up along with a few others. I was driving past Mary's dominican bakery, and we decided to stop by. We purchased 1 slice of tres leches and 1 slice of dulce de leche cake. They charged us $15.00 for 2 pieces and $2.00 for credit card fee!!! The cake was more salty than sweet! Horrible tasting. Will never ever buy a cake or recommend this place. read more

I got a 1/2 lb. Dominican cake with strawberry filling here for my friend's Superbowl party yesterday, and it tasted delicious! I ordered it on late Saturday afternoon, and it was ready by 10:30am on Sunday. I'm glad they were able to accommodate at such short notice! The employees are really nice too. TIP #1: If you don't speak Spanish and you're calling for a price estimate or to place an order, the first thing you should do is ask for their English-speaking employee because the woman who answers the phone only speaks Spanish. TIP #2: It's *CASH ONLY* but there's an ATM outside if you need one. TIP #3: It's located on the corner of 22nd Ave. and E 32nd St. behind the liquor store. In order to see it, you have to turn onto E 32nd St. My GPS had a hard time finding it when I went to pick up the cake. The street of E 32nd has plenty of potholes too, so be careful and drive slowly onto the street. Pricing: 1/2 lb. of cake is $25 and supposedly feeds 10 people, but it can definitely feed more than 10. I can only imagine how much a full pound can feed! That size (1 lb.) is $40. It might cost extra if you want a design, but I only ordered a plain cake so I wouldn't know. read more

This place is always in demand because they make acceptable, good, and priced well (not estimates they have per pound basis) cakes not perfect though. I told them put everything edible they still do what they want they put a ribbon that when stripped off damages the cake and a lot of icing goes with it. There's always something here and there that can be improved. Customer service so-so. You really have to speak spanish, this is a Dominican cake specialty place and the main baker/owner is like an abuela that prefers speaking in spanish. Lucky if the others are there to help her with the receiving. My first time I went here (last year) there was a girl who helped me. She was brilliant, she even designed the cake that I attached here. I was just at this bakery. I walked in and stood about overall 10 minutes without ever being greeted by the two people at the counter. One of them seemed to be calling the other Mary and each is speaking with a customer in Spanish After about 5 minutes two other customers walk in and stand behind me in line. Finally one of the customers at the counter leaves and about a few minutes later one of the ladies at the counter request that I come up. As I am about to explain what it is that I am looking for she stops me in the middle and says you don't speak Spanish to which I say no and so then she tells me to move aside and she takes the person behind me. She doesn't say for me to hold on she'll bring someone to talk to me she just goes on to take care of the person behind me. At which point I ask if they don't speak English to which she replies no and says something about Mary and walks away calling the other customer to the counter. At this point I left the location. Although this place has four stars I'm pretty sure most of its customers are Spanish speaking individuals and unfortunately they cannot cater to those who do not speak Spanish. If their intent is to only cater to those who speak Spanish then they're doing a great job however if their intent is to grow a business then it's pertinent that they learn to speak English or at the very least have someone who can translate for them instead of pushing their customers to the side who have waited. It's bad business...again if the intent is to cater to a larger non Spanish speaking population. read more

I am reviewing this based on customer service- I was looking forward to order a cake for my daughter's first birthday based on the positive reviews and impressive Instagram postings. As I arrived , the attendant seemed very overwhelmed and was distracted when she tried to help us. We were the only people in the bakery at the time. I showed her a picture of the specialty cake and the attendant asked the baker (Mary ) who told me to come a different day during the week because she was busy baking cakes and she couldn't take any orders. As we were talking the baker came to the counter. Did not acknowledge us or explain why she couldn't help us AND proceeded to take the couple's order who came after we did. We waited for a bit and hoped the baker would explain herself , but as expected she didn't. I also saw the attendant accidently touch the cake while she was putting in a box-Which kinda grossed me out. Very friendly people, The Dominican cake is probably the best I have ever had. Everyone always loves the cake when I get it from here and they say it's the best they've had too. Some placed drown the cake in icing but this place does a think layer and the cake is moist and the filling isn't too much either. Growing up in Newark, I have tried quite a few places throughout Newark, Jersey City, Union City, Paterson etc. and now this is my goto place. They say the 1lb cake is for around 15 people but I think it feeds 20-25 easily. read more
