I am born and raised in Wood Ridge and Mills Bakery has been a part of every sorrow and celebration in our lives. I recently ordered a birthday cake and I wanted It to be as dye free as possible. White writing, roses and only one layer of chocolate in the middle the other was buttercream. The bottom I asked for a ring of rainbow sprinkles. When I got the cake I was amazed at how pretty It was!!! You could easily read the writing and the taste was incredible. The cake was fresh and was absolutely delicious. Ok so I order my birthday cake for my 1st day as a senior. It was a big celebration for me since I never celebrate my birthday just other ppls. First the cake was good everyone agreed BUT the BIG disappointment & shock was NO FLOWERS on the cake!!! How do you have a birthday cake & no cake flowers?? It was just plain white buttercream that said HAPPY BIRTHDAY nothing else. I didn't know that when ordering a birthday cake you need to specify that you want cake flowers on it. The pastry chef at Mills Bakery is an artist! My family surprised me with a cake for my annual Harry Potter watch party. My favorite character is Hagrid and I love the scene where he surprises Harry with a cake for his birthday. Apparently, all they did was hand over a photo of the cake from the movie and the Mills team took it from there! It was PERFECT! I've been to the Harry Potter studio in London and the store in New York and neither had a cake that looked this authentic. The colors were spot on, the handwriting looked identical - they even worked in the lines/creases on the top! They were advertising apple cider donuts but were all out when we went in. The pumpkin donuts were still not bad, though, and for $2 each was ok for a cake donut. No line when we went in, but as we came out, people were waiting outside the door, and we were able to take our time. Big cookies, lots of cakes, turnovers, and other selections. I need to give an official "Thank You!" to Yelp Elite Cassy B. - it was her initial review that let me know this place even existed. (And it's just a stone's throw from one of my absolute fave Italian delis, Luigi Meats, too.) This place is petite. 6 or 7 customers and it would feel like the subway during rush hour. But there's no wasted space and they've got a nice mix between rolls and pastries, from fresh bread crumbs to empty cannoli shells (stay far away from a place that has them filled just sitting there for hours or days!). The breads are delicious with that beautiful crunchy top-layer, the oversized treats (like the almond twists to the apple turnovers) are decadently delicious. Staff - always attentive and friendly. I'm gonna update my review to 5 stars because it's so necessary. I've popped in a few times to grab bread and some quick desserts and everything has been so so delicious. Their long Italian rolls are absolutely delicious. I actually bought it one night when we were having a seafood boil and it was the perfect companion to dip in the delicious sauce. Super crusty outside and perfectly soft inside. Now, onto the tiramisu! Hands down, my favorite new dessert. They have little cups of this whipped delicious goodness all on top of a perfectly soaked in strong espresso lady finger. Truly such an explosion of flavors. I love it. My next birthday cake will be their tiramisu cake. Yum. I also recently tried the lemon bar - which is truly also life changing. It's thick and gooey and delicious. The complete opposite of a boring stale lemon bar you're thinking of. Their cookies are also delicious. They have small chocolate chip cookies and they're fantastic. The small Italian cookies with the chocolate buttercream frosting - omg! I can see why they had so many made on Friday because I'm sure they sell like crazy on the weekends. The chocolate buttercream is really really good. It's everything you want in a chocolatey treat. As always, everytime I went the women behind the counter were super nice and friendly. I ordered a birthday cake from this bakery for my daughter's 14th birthday, I left them with multiple reference photos and a detailed descriptions of what the cake should look like. All she wanted was a simple white cake with a pink 14 and a few ribbons on the top, when I first went to the bakery they asked if I could put the ribbons on myself, Isaid yes to make things easier for them. when I went to pick up the cake today, not only did it look nothing like the photos, but the big "14" is not centered whatsoever. the cake looks like they didn't even try, there are air bubbles, marks, and even a hair on the cake. to say i'm disappointed is an extreme understatement. read more

Mills Bakery offers breakfast pastries, cupcakes, cookies, donuts, breads, custom cakes and more off of Valley Blvd in Wood-Ridge. Rumor has it that their donuts sell fast. One has to get there early in the day during the week or not much is left. Luck was on my side today as one other customer and I had the whole place to ourselves. So I managed to get 1/2 dozen of apple cider doughnuts loaded with cinnamon sugar at $2 each. It was fresh, delicious, moist and didn't disappoint. First thing's first, there will be a line. The bakery allows 2 people or a small party of 3 at a time. So depending when you go the wait time can vary. Now on to the goodies. We came in for a cake so we ordered the regular size fruit tart with cream. But then saw more and more biscuits! We ordered mini sweets: two fruit tarts, a lemon bar and a key lime pie. A customer recommended to get the donuts from there and dang, I couldn't help myself and got them anyway. The miss assisting us was helpful, patient and kind!! Next time we'll get the upside down pineapple cake. I loved the pastires here because it wasn't overly sweet or pure sugar like other places. I wouldn't get the key lime pie again though. Ok I lived in Nj for 19 yrs, if my dad didn't , I did when I turned 17 and started driving go to Mills in Woodrige to get fresh crumb cake and variety of buns some times cookies too. I recently got with the staff At mills , thanks Bella, to pack up some crumbs buns and donuts and other buns and my ole high school friend Mike picked them up and shipped them to Florida. Oh man one bite of a crumb bun then jelly donut bam back in NJ as a teenager. They were awesome better than remembered please everyone go to Mills over 40 yrs still same great stuff. If you do, don't eat all my crumb cake n save me a crumb ring I'll be up at some point. We need a Mills south down here in Florida and I'm serious about that . I had heard good things about this bakery. Decided to try it myself. I purchased a crumb bun. Very, very, good. Almost as good as B&W Bakery in Hackensack. Bought a Linzer Tart. Nope. Very artificial tasting and a total disappointment. Tried their cheese puff. Decent amount of cheese and tasty. Overall, what I tried was good. However, I'm not sure this bakery lives up to the hype. I first loved their donuts, but soon ventured into their danishes (pecan) and cakes (lemon and the strawberry shortcake) . If my waistline could sustain it, I'd be here everyday. Of course I came here right after I just had a filling breakfast over at Lucky Larry's...honestly who puts these two stores right next to each other?! I heard about this place from a friend of mine who swore by their doughnuts. As a sucker for doughnuts, I knew I had to stop by, and I am so glad I did. The two special doughnuts for the day was the cannoli doughnut and Reese's doughnut. Unfortunately for me, Reese's was already sold out, but I think that's a sign that I didn't need both at once. Cannoli doughnut was to dieeee for. I legitimately gobbled it in under 2 minutes. It was PACKED with cannoli cream inside, barely leaving any space for actual dough. Topped with cannoli shells, more cannoli cream, and a drizzle of chocolate, it's safe to say that I went into a food coma very shortly after. We have been going to Mill's for as long as I can recall and we are never disappointed. Though this was the convenient and local bakery to my childhood home, I still find myself driving over 30 miles to get pastries, especially for special occasions. Unassuming bakery shop located on Valley Blvd. I stop here on occasion for donuts, when I'm in the mood for bakery donuts, rather than Dunkin Donuts. I've tried the glazed and jelly donuts here. They have both granulated sugar and powdered sugar jelly donuts. I like the granulated sugar jelly donuts the best. I've also tried some of the other items they have here, like the fruit pockets and some of the cookies. But the granulated sugar jelly donuts are what keeps me coming back. In the morning, the granulated sugar jelly donuts are super fresh and soft. But even during the day, although the donuts aren't as fresh and chewy, they still taste great. It's almost like a different donut, if you compare how it tastes, if you buy it in the morning and if buy it during the day. Both are pretty good. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. Very friendly and accommodating, great variety, good to great prices, an most of all, absolutely delicious. I have yet to try anything here that struck me as anything less than great. The presentation is very good. Let me put it this way though: take nothing away from Mills, but I do know bakeries that will do a fancier job VISUALLY. When it comes to actual taste though, this place stands out.
