Yes, as seen on TV--this woman's story is truly triumphant. She's a living legend, and if you're lucky enough to stop by her shop or catch her at the farmers market, you might even get to see her in person! The warmth of her and her team really shines through, and their recipes are absolutely fantastic. The food is top-quality and truly puts Teaneck, New Jersey, on the map! It's also worth noting that their treats ship beautifully, making them a perfect option for unique holiday gifts. They also handle corporate and book orders--and yes, everything is kosher! Definitely check it out!!! Support local!!! read more

The story behind this place is a satisfactory one and a story of achieving something great through adversity... However, this happened over a decade ago and unfortunately, from my first impression of this place, there is seriously some need for marketing and a change tailored to incentivizing a newer generation of people to discovering this place. I was dissatisfied with the lack of desire to accept any of the coupons or online promotions offered by sites such as groupon and restaurant.com... The owner claimed that she had not been involved with the marketing departments from these sites, however, that is the only reason I discovered this place in the first place, and she refused to honor the coupons that we had purchased with our own money through the site. I wound up purchasing one of her famous apple cakes, which, in my opinion was extremely overpriced for the size, but I was sympathetic to her story and the hard work that went behind the business enough to purchase it. The cake was delicious, but not something groundbreaking. I know this is a brutal review, but I think it's important that the business makes some attempt going forward to clarify marketing directives and try to appeal to a newer audience instead of living within the same time period and not changing with the times. The owner is living over and over again what happened over 10 years ago and I'm looking for more creativity and expansion and collaboration from third party affiliates otherwise I see the business struggling due to lack of outside promotion and internal customer satisfaction initiatives. read more

This one is tough for me because the proprietor that I met was a lovely nice person. I got there too early before they opened because yelp advertises they open at 11am when they don't open until noon. Nonetheless, she allowed me to enter and purchase 6 cupcakes. Now for the tough part, they are quite small and pricey. I can't apeak for the cakes; but the cupcakes are no better than any local baker's. Regretfully, it just was not worth the price nor the gas. read more

Original Mortgage Apple cake You can taste the buttery goodness in the frosting, the cake was nice and moist, loved the pieces of apple in every bite. Smells amazing, so much apple goodness! Perfect blend of spices, in the cake. Totally worth the drive as it lived up to the hype! #CynBitesThisFeedsMySoulStatus #BOB #WomanOwned Location Street parking. There are vegan and gluten free options. You can buy a slice or a whole cake. Next time I'll have to bring a cooler and get a whole cake, it's that freaking good!! Bonus: Angela is still there baking ...which is what I attribute to what makes the cake taste so fantastic! I loved seeing her pour in the ingredients adding them until her ancestors whispered to her to stop. Angela is so humble and welcoming. Thanks Prime for the movie and bringing this amazing bakery to the forefront for us all!! read more

My taste buds were calling out to me for cupcakes. So, I was looking for a shoppe that would satisfy this craving. While heading for the Provident Bank, I saw Mortgage Apple Cake sign. So, I decided to go in. Angela was gracious and the cupcakes looked absolutely divine. I chose the carrot cake cupcake and coconut. Well, it was like my taste buds were jumping for joy!! I recently bought an apple cake from Angela and WOW!!!! This cake is moist, fresh and full of apples. Now, the cream cheese icing is the best cream cheese frosting I have ever tasted (and I have tasted a lot!) Thankfully, I have an appointment in that area once a month so I get to stop there on my way home! The cherry on top was meeting Angela. She was so sweet and patient as I asked a few questions. I walked out with a whole cake (this was not ordered but already made) and a few cupcakes. The chocolate overload cupcake was also fresh and delicious. Stopped in this place after hearing Angela's story. I was lucky enough to meet her the day I stopped in. I bought the famous apple cake but in a cupcake form and it was perfectly moist, I felt like I was eating something straight out of the oven. There is no artificial after taste what so ever. The apple cake is moist with just the right amount of frosting and not overtly sweet. I hate when all you taste is sugar, this is nothing like it. I will definitely be returning for special occasion cakes. read more

Angela and her family will make you feel at home at this bakery and keep you coming back. I've ordered individual cake slices, small cakes, and big cakes. Everyone who I've introduced this cake to loves it. It's the perfect thing to bring to potlucks, bbqs, and honestly any event. Even if someone doesn't like sweets, they will like this cake. Purchased an 8 inch cake for a birthday and it was a nice experience at the shop. The shop space was small but the staff made the place very warm and welcoming. They would usually decorate the cake for special occasions, but unfortunately Angela was out at that time. Found the cake to be too sweet for personal preference though. On the upside, the icing is to die for and the apple flavor definitely comes through. Texture was very similar to a good carrot cake expect I think using apple instead of carrot make cake retain even more moisture. A bit too sweet to have on routine basis but will definitely consider getting this again for holiday gatherings and special occasions since it's more unique. read more

Wow i think i died and went to heaven because these cupcakes and cakes are too good to be real. I have been to many a bakeries in my day, my sweet tooth is actually bigger than my head. I live for dessert and Angela's bakery is truly a g"d-sent. My dentist will not be happy that i found this place. Easily can say that this is one of the best bakeries i have ever ordered from. I can not think of one 'famous' nyc bakery that has better apple cake or cupcakes than Angela's. Angela, you are angel, a master and an artist. Chocolate cupcake: perfectly moist and chocolatey without being overwhelming Strawberry cupcake: perfectly balanced, beautifully colored and dreammyy Carrot cupcake: Cutteee!! Love the little carrot design and the beautiful balance of raisins, cake and frosting. And most importantly, the Apple cake. My new love. Sorry to my cat and bf bc i think im in love. Chocolate cake is not my favorite. As a matter of fact I usually only eat it if I have vanilla ice cream to go along. So, you can imagine my surprise when I tasted the vegan chocolate cake that Angela created at her Teaneck, NJ bakery, Mortgage Apple Cakes. It was like no other chocolate cake I'd ever tasted -- so moist! It could make me a lover of chocolate cake, even without the ice cream. In fact it was almost brownie-like. (I'm no foodie so proper words escape me.) I loved it I hope you'll try it and love it as well! ... and it's both VEGAN and KOSHER! what's not to like! read more

It is a small space, but makes you feel at home as soon as you step in. They have a limited but tasty selection of baked goods for walk-in customers. We tried the famous mortgage cake and were not disappointed. The cake was fresh, soft and you could taste the apple bits in it along with a hint of cinnamon. The butter cream frosting on the cake was also delicious, and perfect for this cake. One slice cost around $4. And I can only imagine how delicious their custom made-to-order cakes must be! It is strictly a bakery so they don't offer any specialty coffee/tea but just good ole hot coffee and water. read more

From the Business

Specialties

Mortgage Apple Cakes are moist, delicious cakes and cupcakes made with fresh juicy apples with organic sugars and spices - cake so good it saved a home from foreclosure.

History

Established in 2009.

Five years ago, Angela Logan was faced with foreclosure. She set a goal to sell 100 apple cakes in 10 days and asked her friends to buy them. vVhen her story became national news, orders for her apple cakes came from all over the United States, saving her homefromforeclosure. Today, Angela heads her own company, Mortgage Apple Cakes, LLC.

Meet the Business Owner: Angela L.

In 2009, I was losing my home to foreclosure. I set a goal to sell 100 Apple Cakes in 10 days to qualify for a loan modification. When I got to 42 cakes, my friends told a reporter and when the story was published, it went viral. From the news coverage I sold over 900 cakes coast to coast. I partnered with a cake distributor and everybody that paid for a cake, got a cake. When that partnership ended, I continued to sell my cakes in farmers markets and street fairs because everyone loved the cake so much. In 2014 there was a movie made about my story called "Apple Mortgage Cake" starring Kimberly Elise on the UP network. In 2015, I opened the first Mortgage Apple Cake Bakery & Cafe in Teaneck, NJ. The only thing greater than this story is the taste of the cake. (google "Mortgage Apple Cakes" to see the news footage.)

I've been to various Paris Baguette locations around Central Jersey, and honestly, I wasn't a huge…read morefan... until recently. Let me explain. At one location I frequented, the coffee had really disappointed me. Once upon a time, their coffee was delicious, with rich, chocolatey notes, but the last few visits left me with bitter, almost burnt-tasting drinks, and no amount of milk could fix it. This was surprising, since they supposedly use LavAzza beans. I also never loved their cakes; I often found them too heavy on icing and light on actual cake. However, on a recent trip while shopping at 99 Ranch Market (which is conveniently right next door), we decided to give Paris Baguette another try and treat ourselves to pastries. I was immediately impressed by their selection and how frequently the display was refilled. Every item was behind a glass case, which felt very clean and hygienic. The cashiers were great at making the hot beverages, and they asked if we had a rewards program with them. We gave them our phone numbers, and it turned out none of us had signed up or that they expired. Here's what we purchased: - Cafe Mocha - 5/5 stars. Perfect balance of espresso and chocolate. The barista even made a heart on top. Although the lid covered it, the gesture was appreciated. - Cold Brew - 5/5 stars. Smooth and refreshing. - Chausson aux Pommes - 4/5 stars. A French apple turnover with a perfectly crisp crust and tender, flavorful apples that weren't mushy. - Croissant Donut - 5/5 stars. Flaky, buttery croissant-like in shape of a donut, filled with custard that was bright due to the citrus, and well-balanced between sweet and savory. - Blueberry & Cream Brioche - 5/5 stars. Their crust was crispy and light. It was an indulgent treat that was well balanced as the custard was rich, soft, and just sweet enough without being heavy. Patrons can help themselves to cream, milk, utensils, and napkins, which is convenient. The seating is roomy and relaxing, perfect for lingering over coffee and pastries. It's located in the Home Depot strip mall. Parking is usually easy on weekdays, but weekends can get a little hectic. Overall, this visit completely changed my opinion of Paris Baguette. The coffee and pastries were impeccable, and the environment made for a pleasant, stress-free experience. Definitely worth a stop if you're nearby.

Pigs in a blanket were solid and came with a delicious mustard dipping sauce. Chicken tenders were very bland, and even my chicken tender loving 3 year old wasn't interested. Our server was sweet and friendly. They do a massive amount of business and on a Saturday at around 5 it was completely packed. There are so many other restaurants in this complex, but most seem to be a bit fancy for small kids. Given this I can definitely see why there were a ton of families eating here.

There's no wall menu and the bakers primary language is Spanish, so I am unable to identify the types of sweet bread. Name or no name, the bread is a sweet choice to supplement your breakfast. They each have a light, puffy, and flaky texture and are great for dipping in your morning cup of Joe. If you aren't craving pastries, there is a lunch selection available. Double wrapped in two soft shells, the tacos are a quick, but satisfying meal. In my opinion, it wasn't necessary to include cucumbers and lime. But, the chopped radishes surprisingly gave the tacos a nice crunch and you can never have enough cilantro and hot sauce. You know some of the ways to tell if ethnic food is good in a non enclave area? These aren't 100% but often good signs. The workers mostly don't speak English. The customers are all that ethnicity, many of them also speaking little to no English. They hit both. It helps a lot to speak Spanish, especially over the fone. But they make it work if all you know is gringo. Huge tortas. Surprisingly good shrimp quesadillas. Proper tacos and birria with the consommé. Refreshing salsa verde and creamy salsa roja. Big flavors. Admittedly I'm not a fan of their baked goods, but they do have good priced specials on them.

There is a humongous snack section, a well stocked liquor area, and like all of their locations, a food court and prepared meats section.
