Had a mailer coupon for a smog. No problem with getting my smog but the tech added on a Star fee of $20. Showed me my registration that says get at a STAR station. Their invoice shows H SMOG Official Test only & Star. Just trying to get more money out of their customers. Will not go back for my other vehicles. read more

I saw the vibrant ad for smog testing in The Local Buzz monthly magazine--so I figured that I'd give H Smog a try. After waiting about 15 minutes from the listed service hours for someone to appear, a gentleman drove up in a fancy green sports car (I believe it was a Lamborghini) and indicated that he would be glad to smog test my car. Then things went downhill from there. I showed him the coupon from The Local Buzz--to which he responded that the indicated price was only valid for paying in cash. As I was preparing to leave to go to an ATM to obtain the requested cash, the gentleman from H Smog then indicated that the coupon was no longer valid and "had expired"--even though no such expiration date was indicated anywhere in the advertisement or on the coupon itself. Furthermore--the coupon also states that "We Honor Competitor's Coupons"--so I showed other coupons from two other smog inspection places with comparable prices...to which the H Smog gentleman claimed that they also were expired even though neither of them had any expiration date indicated. The bottom line is that not only does H Smog NOT honor competitor's coupons--H Smog doesn't even honor its OWN coupons! In conclusion--if you don't want to be ripped-off for having a simple smog inspection for your vehicle--then I recommend going anywhere else but H Smog for having the service performed...as I ended-up doing at another place in Walnut Creek for HALF the price that it would have cost me to get the smog check at H Smog. read more

On a personal note, the owner and my boyfriend somehow developed an intense bromance with each other. It seems that the passion they have for one another will last a lifetime. The guy charged me $80 and his explanation for the disparity was that it was a STAR service - what nonsense I now know. Don't go here, you will be charged higher if they believe you can pay. H Smog is a new business that is fast, open late and is price by half of other smog places. With a coupon I got in those Val-pak type mailings I got a regular smog for $30 including the certificate! I highly recommend this business. read more

Firstly, we waited almost 2 hours in a freezing cold room. We were quoted $49, when we came I was told $10 more for Star= $59. Was charged $60. The car driver's window was left open so interior got wet. The trunk was opened and not shut, so I had to stop and close it in the rain after leaving. The hood was also not shut. If I could give zero stars I would. I called on a coupon the day before and was told $10 extra on the car price on the coupon because I had a diesel truck. (Total $31.75 + cert.) I asked the man if I should make an appointment and he told me to come the next day at ten which I did. When I arrived he told me he could NOT take the coupon and that it would cost $80 instead of the quoted price of $31. 75 + certificate. I told him I had called the day before and he had quoted me that price. He started saying who did you call, who did you talk to etc? Since he was the only one there... I'm assuming I spoke with him.
