I hope you already bought your emergency water supply. You aren't getting any here.

SHOPPERS BEWARE!! Some brainiac has decided to move the store around. Items are not in a place that makes any kind of sense and shelves are empty. For the next two weeks (until late May) do yourself a favor and shop somewhere else as you won't find what you're looking for (they don't have it or it's in a crazy location).

This location is new and most definitely improved--a significant upgrade to the neighborhood. The store features all the amenities of newer HEB stores, to include a full bakery and deli. There's a lunch counter with foods made to order, and they have a nice selection of salads and sandwiches ready in advance. This place is going to be a big hit with all the people who work on Lackland. There's lots of parking and even a gas station with a car wash. This is a very nice HE--no Butts about it.

    Fresh made Philadelphia roll!

I was headed into Lackland AFB and realized I forgot my lunch so decided to swing into heb really quick. I decided to get some sushi and a topo Chico. I got to the sushi station and there wasn't a lot of options set out since it was only around 930am. A guy working the sushi station asked if I needed help with anything and i asked if they had any Philadelphia rolls. He said he didn't have any set out but asked if I would like for him to make me one really quickly? I responded that would be great! He asked if I wanted smoked salmon or imitation crab- and if I wanted one or two rolls. I answered one roll- smoked salmon. He promptly finished what he was working on and immediately made my sushi roll fresh in front of me and happily handed it over and asked if he could help with anything else. The customer service was amazing and the sushi was delicious and made fresh right in front of me. This was a great experience here and I will for sure be back!

This was my first trip to this HEB. Needed to find some meat I hadn't been able to find at my local Plus. I came in the evening and was pleased to see how open this location is. Although not a Plus, it appeared to be good size from my short trip. There are only 18 lanes, but 17 of them were open. Great! I might come here a little more often.

Not the best HEB. But they have my big bottles of Topo, so it's cool.

Obviously there's no actual pharmacy here since it's on the river level with no access to street parking. It's not even your standard CVS. Sure, they have the basics like snacks, cosmetics, etc, but what tickled me were the ducky plushies in cowboy and beaver hats. There are also post cards and $20 phone chargers, one of which I needed since I accidentally left mine at the hotel. Would I come here to buy anything otherwise? Probably not, but it was certainly worth checking out. And the cashier was also very nice. She did ask if I have a phone number with CVS (I haven't for several years now. I wonder if they ever actually close those years old inactive accounts). She also allowed me to simply use the reusable bag from the Alamo we already had with us to save the trouble. Oh and an entire aisle dedicated to Texas and San Antonio. It was a fun time. Also, the shelves could probably stand to be wiped down more. Lots of dust. And what's this? No kitty cats to greet me? Now I'm sad. :( I'd come back just to see them, and they're good for keeping rodents away. So for the cat haters out there, bear in mind they're smarter than many give them credit for as they hunt mice and birds to keep the river walk free of infestations.

Just the fancy restaurants and the tourist hotspots which don't really need a review where your review will get lost in a sea of 20,000 others. This place is super cute with a lot of great stuff and fun stuff and I've stopped in here on several occasions when coming to San Antonio, and I'm sure they will come back here on many occasions in the future. And they have the word five in their name so what rating did you think I was going to give them? This store is a dime.

Here is a general store across the street from a site with more than 2,500 photos, almost 1,000 reviews (and an inexplicably low 4-star composite rating) and has a paltry EIGHT reviews and 4 photos (which I'm going to double today). Maybe I just love general stores with the amalgam of touristy stuff, toiletries you forgot to bring, and temptations of the sweet and salty kind. They sum it up best with their motto, "Travel necessities. Hometown setting." First, yes, as you would expect, there is PLENTY of Alamo-related stuff. Neither cheap nor chintzy, there are plenty of Alamo t-shirts, cups, magnets, mugs souvenirs, and other ephemera at prices (at least based on my experience) a bit less expensive than at other establishments. An, if you want to show some Texas pride, there's plenty to buy to remind your friends where you're from and what state not to mess with. And yes, it has the feel with the old-time pharmacy catch-alls, from medicines and ointments to phone chargers and travel bags. The convenience of an airport gift shop without the high prices and drab formulaicness. Five and Dime ain't for the cynic. You'll find the kind of cowboy hats you'd find on a sorority girl at a Saturday night party. You'll find the kind of sombreros you have lying around awaiting the moment when your friend passes out drunk and you can place it on his head and Sharpie a Zapata-style mustache on his upper lip. Yes, there's plenty of humor in the Five and Dime collection! In the end, Five and Dime is a great store for both local and tourist alike. Their hometown philosophy can also be found at their other locations: On the San Antonio Riverwalk, on the Landing in Branson, in Old Town San Diego, Market Street in Charleston, Old Town in St. Augustine (FL), Cannery Row in Monterey (CA), River Street in Savannah (GA), and the Historic Plaza in Santa Fe. All great places, and all where I'll be making a stop at the Five and Dime when I do. See you there!

That was the horror I experienced during my work trip. "Why didn't I bring backup floss!?!?!?!?!?" Kidding, who brings backup floss, maybe you do, if so, kudos to you. Enter the RiverCenter Drug Store inside the RiverCenter mall. I refused to pay $4.99 for a single pack of my favorite floss from the hotel store, so I headed to the mall to find a lower price and found it at this store for $2.67. Still overpriced than the usual $0.99 I find at Target but cheaper than $4.99 so I was happy. And, no spend limit to use a credit card like the small kiosk inside the mall who said I had to spend at least $4 to pay for my floss with them. The drug store is large with lots of stuff so if you don't feel like walking to the Walgreens or CVS this is a great option. And yes, I just wrote about buying floss for my first 2018 review! :) What a way to start the year!
