We were temporarily assigned to work in Vegas, and almost as much as I missed my friends, I missed H-E-B. Coming back reminded me why--this is the best H-E-B. The pharmacy staff are genuinely kind and helpful, checkout is always swift, and the deli counter service is amazing. The product selection is unmatched: pimento cheese dip (A+), Thai basil, sweet basil, Spanish and Mexican chorizo, bok choy, fresh-squeezed lime juice, and an impressive variety of organic flours for all my baking needs. And don't even get me started on the caramel walnut apple pie--absolutely dangerous. I've bought giant tubs of cheese here without a second thought, because this store just gets it. H-E-B is already gigantic but H-E-B Plus! is gargantuan. This grocery store even has an entire section for grills, smokers and hunting blinds! As a Celiac who doesn't live in Texas, it's pretty common to be told, with disdain, that my disease isn't restaurants' problem, so if I need gluten-free food when travelling, I should go to the grocery store. Gluten is a protein that is found in wheat, barley and rye. Surely a lot of Mexican foods should be gluten-free in Texas, right? Wrong. It's a cheap filler in nearly everything or it's cross-contaminated from being fried in the same fryer oil as gluten-foods. Unfortunately, unless you have a full kitchen at your disposal, it's still really difficult to eat gluten-free even going to a giant grocery store like H-E-B Plus! None of the premade foods are marked gluten-free at this gigantic store, including foods that should naturally be gluten-free like tamales. I ended up with a kombucha, chips, and some potato snack called Pik-Nik. I'd really love to be able to safely eat a premade salad or tacos on the go and not have to rely on chips and yogurt. This is a review of Penny In the butcher shop. I went to the the H‑E‑B on Bulverde and asked for assistance from butcher to cut a pork chop 2" thick and he said he could not. So I left. I came to this H‑E‑B and asked Penny if I could get a 2" pork chop, he said yes every store will special cut. I said oh really, this is the first store that has said they can. I'm a Stone Oak business owner and share the strip mall with this HEB. I've been a regular here for eight years and consider this store my home. Yesterday, my assistant manager and I were having lunch in the dining area, like we do pretty much every day. A middle manager and his group of cronies at the next table over accused my assistant manager of stealing soup. Soup. I spoke up for and defended my colleague. That manager humiliated us and made my AM search for his receipt in front of everyone in their very public eating area. I understand policies like this. That's not the issue. It's how we were treated. They talked to us like we were two-bit street punks, and they were state troopers. They were condescending and rude as hell. I will be forthcoming and say my reaction was less than professional. But they started this. No customer should be made to feel this way. I am humiliated, and I feel unwelcome in a place I frequent every day of my professional and personal life. Many of the staff here know us, and some are even clients of ours. We even considered opening a location inside this HEB. I did get to speak with a higher up staff member, and he was gracious, while I was very upset and rattled. But i was told nothing would be done about this. We are owed an apology, at the very least. My AM certainly wants one. I was informed that it is HEB's policy to "not apologize" for incidents between staff and customers. I get it. Lawsuits can happen if you admit fault. But gentlemen, we're your long-term neighbors. It's a day later, and I feel hesitation when I think about going back in there. We're not going to get any apology. You're a Texas juggernaught, and we're just some flyspeck shop in your orbit. I know that. We're likely going to get dirty looks or harrassed by these "managers" if we go back in there. But I want light shed on what happened to us and the behavior of those you have in charge. Today 3-21-25 I just got back and before going to HEB I was in a good mood after leaving not so good. I was smiling went to get some crab and saw a good deal. The guy behind the counter white guy heavy set guy rolled his eyes passing me up no hello, or hi, or I'll be with you in a minute. He walks over to the far side of his area upset walks up looks pissed he has his first customer of the day nobody in the store yet. He just says what do you need, I was like wow. So I say I'm sorry I interrupted you ( he said nothing ) so I'm apologizing for his attitude . He packs up my crab and tossed it on the counter he says nothing, I say thank you he says yeah still pissed. How these people get to continue to work with customers is beyond me ? He needs to be stocking with no customer interaction. I was told by a HEB manager how is it these people stay and he said it's a high turnover job it's easier to keep them wow. I love this HEB. I wish every company had employees that are as friendly and helpful as this location. The produce is top notch and always well stocked. I consistently buy marinated poultry in the meat department. I buy so much of the HEB made pimento cheese they probably have to consistently make more. It's addicting. I have berm waiting 2 months for a reply on a certain If this company can order a different version of a certain product they have. I have spoken with many managers at this location. They keep telling me " oh we will call you." Never a call back like they said they would. The managers themselves are rude. The vendors selling the products are completely rude. The people working at this location are just completely rude as a whole. Please bring in a different chain to compete with and remove heb from royalty of San Antonio. The last couple of years I have generally moved away from HEB preferring Trader Joe's / Whole Foods and Costco . I had used delivery when I was traveling a lot for work but gave that up due to rotten produce and wrong items showing up. We stopped by this weekend as it is the closest to home so we could grab some items for dinner - Big mistake as 2 hours later we had to return with rancid items. We bought some seafood which honestly we should have returned within minutes of getting in the car as it was clear the smell was off. It was completely rotten and inedible ; but when the pricey IPA we had bought was also skunked - it was time to return to the store. To be fair to the store they processed the return immediately and were appalled that these items had been sold. They immediately ordered the rest of the beer off the shelf. Obviously turnaround is quick on your every day items but the problem is the specialty items: Unusual tropical fruits, fish that is not salmon or talapia , beers beyond Bud and Coors; are going to have a more limited audience and therefore need more quality control to verify that the products sold and fresh and fit for consumption. However I will say their garden center is amazing - always helpful staff. And they resolve issues right away store wide! read more

One of my favorite H-E-B locations. Only down size is their register system is similar to Walmart. They have tons of them but only a few open. Expect long lines, self check out is 10 items or less, there's also 15 or less registers which are almost always open no line. Anyone who is familiar with H-E-B knows you most likely will have more than 15 items. It would be nice to have more cashiers open with no limit to reduce long wait. Parking is nuts here, early morning or late evening are the best times to shop and avoid big crowds. read more

They seem to have way to many managers and not enough actual staff. Every time I go in in the morning there's managers standing around everywhere, in the way sometimes just watching the few staff they have trying to stock things. A must see. Disneyland for adults, a one stop shop for sure. A glorified super Walmart and more. Forget downtown tourist attractions, this is worth the trip, there are many around the area but this one is a "HEB plus" Gluten free aisle, a small but better than nothing vegan display. Love the cafe, you can have a salad bar, deli or I just bought GF and vegan items, paid and sat here to eat. Had to get more shopping done. This is my go-to grocery spot as it's near my place and by-golly do I love it. Not only can you find all of your HEB staples; however, they have an electronic section, boutique, and a few other sections that aren't found at a typical HEB. They offer hot foods and a salad bar which is nice when you're on the go! It's very well maintained and plenty of registers to cash out of. Their organic and premium items is plentiful and you can appreciatte the varitety they offer including their olive bar. My favorite part is their deli and gourmet cheese section and this is probably one of the few locations where their pre-packed meats are high quality and a wide assortment. You can find pre-made meals that just need to be warmed up and they even feature those pre-packaged meals like Blue Apron here. Feeling lazy and don't want to go inside? I asked for some octopus at the seafood section. The employee weighed the octopus in a wrong price. It was $14.97/ pound but he put in $17.97/ pound. As soon as I noticed, he quickly disappeared. I was waiting there for like 5 minutes him to come back because some other customers showed up. He looked at me without asking me what I need. I asked him politely to check the price. He changed the tag and said to me, 'you saved a dollar!' How rude! It was his fault not to put in the right price, and without an apology, he also humiliated me. I started with Curbside which has been a great experience. The orders are ready when requested and rarely have an issue. They follow the directions like baby spinach "7 days into the future" or no subs on whataburger ketchup. I have started using the delivery the past few weeks. We shop here almost every week. I generally have no issues with HEB. However they are in the midst of relocating products to other places within the store. They do this every few years but it is something I hate. I understand why they do it, to expose you to other products you may not ever see etc. Most of us are creatures of habit. I plan on buying the products I am familiar with almost every time I go. If you want me to try a new product try making a display with maybe a sample person there to try it out. Don't relocate the entire store, that's insane. Maybe the fact that HEB is nearly the only game in town that they get a little arrogant in pleasing their long time customers. They now have an app that allows you to make a list and it will self arrange to the order they come up in the store if you enter through the produce area. Well it didn't work for me and it was all out of order. None of the 'experts' that work there were even aware it was supposed to do that. Just made finding my regular items even harder to find. That store it too big to wander all over it with a random list. Maybe it will update once the changes are over....but when? No One Knows. read more

Overall, we like HEB and most of the products they offer. Curbside service is great, but they often limit your online selections so buyer beware. Also, their prices are often higher than Walmart on national brands. The reason I'm even posting a review here is that I see HEB has removed reviews from their online shopping website. That makes me a little wary because of their heavy marketing for their own brands. So, because of previously available reviews, I bought the highly recommended HEB Bravo laundry detergent. At first I liked it, but I eventually realized the texture left a slightly gummy residue in the washing machine dispenser. Then I noticed a big difference in the efficiency of the detergent when it came to deeper cleaning. During Snopacalyse I was charged nine almost $9 for a case of non-premium water. stupid me didn't notice it until I got home and checked out the receipt. But I needed it so I couldn't return it. I made a complaint to the attorney general's office never even got an email back. HEB prices are too high. I go to Joe V's which is anHEB outlet when I'm in Houston. I love them. they are so fairly priced. They don't have all my little odd gourmet what nots but I stock up on common items. They have rice rolls that are amazing like most H-E-B's. I love Kim bop to death. The store cashiers are so well trained if you're in a line of 10 people you'll get through like three stories on Google News and that's it. The store is well stocked the produce is awesome. They have six Bolios huge Bolios for a dollar. here's another example a gallon of orange juice is $3.47. What the heck. This is my FAVORITE H-E-B. This isn't the one that's closest to me but I don't care I prefer this one over all of them. It looks so nice and welcoming inside and the store is big and spread out so you never feel crowded. The lights are slightly dimmer so it's not all in your face like some grocery stores. The deals here seriously cannot be beat. They have coupons spread out all over the store and you save so much money. I never have to wait very long in line when I check out which is very refreshing. They sell Lily's chocolate bars and zevia drinks which are my favorite thing and are hard to find at other stores so I was very excited about that! Unfortunately I had a bad experience as several vehicles were waiting for our groceries, after a few minutes of waiting (5-7 minutes), a car pulled in next to me and to my surprise it was the first one to be serviced. As I continued to wait, I asked the same lady when she came out again with groceries for another vehicle, why the last one to come in was attended first. She said that doesn't happen and moved on. When I finally received my groceries I asked the young lady who was the manager, and to my surprise it was the same lady that had attended that last vehicle before all of us. Wow! Well I basically was just called a thief and a liar by an HEB employee. I used their self checkout. Scanned all the items and was paying when some employee asked me if I had gotten the 20 pack of sodas on the bottom of the cart. I said yes. I paid and then she grabs the receipt to check.
