This particular checkin was for the BBQ drive thru. I'd never been there before so I thought I'd try it out. I was hoping to get chicken but I wasn't aware they don't sell BBQ chicken. I opted for a two meat with fatty brisket and ribs with collard greens and brisket beans as sides. There was almost a $300 up charge for the ribs but I decided to try it. Where do I start? Price or Taste? Taste. I thought every thing tasted pretty good. I was surprised that the greens had flavor but I really enjoyed them. Normally, in grocery stores, they usually taste as if they were poured from the can with no doctoring. The brisket beans were flavorful. The star of the show was the meat. I like my sauce with vinegar but they were out do I got sweet on the side. Honestly, I didn't use the sauce. The meat was tender and well seasoned. I tasted the sauce and found it really good. Not overly sweet but just right. I probably would dip instead of pour if I decide to try it with the meat next time. So this meal cost me just over $20. I found that a bit pricey for three ribs and a couple pieces of brisket but I've paid more for badly cooked food in this city so I'll leave that be. Service was quick and fact. I don't have any ambiance to rate since I went took the drive thru route. Overall, I enjoyed it and I'll be back again. read more

I witnessed an upsetting interaction at this location that I feel needs to be shared. A woman with two small children was having trouble with the payment terminal. When the manager, Alexis, was called over to help, she immediately took an aggressive tone with the customer instead of approaching the situation with patience and professionalism. Alexis spoke loudly enough that other customers around us turned to look, and told the woman she would just have to find another way to pay rather than making any real effort to resolve the issue calmly. The woman, who is Black, looked visibly embarrassed. The interaction concerned me enough that I felt I was watching racially motivated treatment. Whether or not that was the intent, the behavior was inappropriate and unprofessional. The situation was eventually resolved and the woman was able to complete her purchase, but no customer should have to feel humiliated in a checkout line in front of their children. Even the checker looked embarrassed by what happened. I told him his manager needs to treat people with more kindness. HEB has a great reputation in this community, and that interaction did not reflect it. read more

I've been using curbside at H‑E‑B for over a year now and have never had an issue until today. I received a message earlier saying my order might be delayed due to backup orders, which I completely understood. My pickup window was scheduled for 6:00-6:30 PM. However, around 5:56 PM, I received a text saying my order was ready. Because of that, I left my house around 6:15 PM to head over. When I arrived, the parking lot was extremely packed, and it took me about 20 minutes just to find a curbside parking spot. I finally parked around 6:45 PM--but I didn't receive my groceries until about 7:25 PM. That was over an hour past my original pickup window, which was very disappointing. Curbside is typically quick and efficient, so waiting that long really defeats the purpose. I understand being busy, especially during peak hours, but some kind of communication from management or staff explaining the delay would have gone a long way. I've always had great experiences here, which is why today stood out so much. I hope this was just an off day, but better communication during heavy backup situations would really improve the curbside experience. read more

Now don't get me wrong I loved this heb( I used to live in the area but I moved and I have to drive past this to get to my new home) but I feel like I can't shop here. As of the later half of last year I feel like when I go in im being profiled. I normally stop after work buy a few items for dinner. Well the first instance they locked the kart at the doorway and a manager came over to check my bags and receipt. I didn't realize what had happened till I called my boyfriend and he was like they thought you were stealing. I was mortified not my heb I'd been shopping there since they opened. So I reached out to corporate. I got brushed off. So I was like its fine what ever I just won't do self check out anymore and I won't bring my purse. That solved the problem for a while but just last night I wasn't thinking about what heb I was stopping at. I went in with my purse so i could wear my headphones while i shopped ( i was trying to unwind after work). I was oblivious till I got to check out where the heb employee was acting odd as I checked out with them. I paid and as I start walking out another employee walks next to me. He's in my personal space close like boyfriend walking next to you close trying to look into my purse. I was so uncomfortable that I just looked straight ahead and kicked myself for bringing my purse with me. This used to be a nice heb but if they are going to profile tired people and hurrass them I wouldn't recommend this location. I've shopped at other hebs and had been a reoccurring patrion for years at this location and never have received this treatment. I don't know what caused my heb to change but they make me uncomfortable to shop there now. read more

This is my go to HEB for weekly grocery shopping. There are at least 3 closer locations to my house, but I like the layout and selection of this store the most. I am frustrated that someone at Yelp keeps changing the name to HEB Wellness or something like that. You can clearly see by the 117 photos that this ain't no doctor's office. The produce here is always fresh and much better than you will find at WalMart. Great wine selection, with very good prices. I used to get their H‑E‑B Bakery Scratch breads, but now find most are made with bioengineered ingredients. No thanks, and that cost you a star. I don't want my bread made with lab created ingredients. I have the HEB app and that helps me save money with coupons not available in the store. Most of the HEB brands are just as good as the name brands for a better price. They do need to work on training baggers as they constantly mix cold and frozen items with canned goods. read more

I wanted to comment on HEB's bakery. My son is moving on to Middle School, and we wanted to have a little party with cake to celebrate finishing elementary. It's been a rough few years, and starting middle school feels like new beginnings. He's really into science and outer space, like many 12 year olds are, so we wanted to reflect that interest in our party. I found some amazing galaxy cakes online, but no one to actually make the cake locally. My daughter said try HEB. I didn't see anything like what I wanted in their catalog. They were mostly Star Wars themed, or baby nursery stars. My daughter, being the cool big sister that she is, spoke with someone in the bakery and showed them what we had in mind. She said they had the idea, and I closed my eyes, and hoped for the best. WOW!!!! I am SO happy with the results!!! Thank you so much! Good location. Wide aisles in between shelves. Well-stocked. On most times I've been here, since I'm not familiar where things are, I could easily ask for the location of an item. However, last night, I was looking for a deli item, called tzatziki, and 3 different male employees said they don't know what that is. Until finally I asked a female employee behind the deli meat section, who immediately knew what I was looking for and walked to where the item was stocked. On previous times, the employees took their time to check their HEB app to look for a hard-to-find item. Last night, they weren't very resourceful, nor directed me to someone who could help me, so I could save time going around in circles. And it wasn't even busy coz it was getting cold outdoors. Sad . I will still continue to shop here because it's close to the gym I usually frequent. I just wish their employees would step up. read more

When this store opened, it was awesome. In the past couple of years it has gone downhill. Example: In two of my last 4 visits they are out of gallon containers of low fat milk. Pie shells, of any brand, twice in 4 weeks. Lipton Diet Green Tea once in the past week. I could go on. When I asked one of their associates I'm told, "well it's the holidays". Poor answer from people who obviously don't know how to do their jobs and anticipate stock demands during peak times of the year. Deals as big as Texas! This iconic grocery store is a new location, just inside the loop 1604 on Bulverde Road. This is one of the only HEB's in San Antonio that offers drive thru BBQ, as well as a drive-thru pharmacy! Their BBQ is amazing- they hired away some BBQ chef with real chops to run the place. Legit. This store has all their beer stretched out in one long series of coolers, ranked by the price mostly- with the cheapest towards the front of the store, and the 4 packs and bombers all the way at the other end. This store has one of the most extensive cheese sections and bakeries that I've seen at an HEB around here. Delish! They have lots of checkers, as well as some of the check-yourself-out kinda options that works if you're just running in for beer and a sandwich! Parking is easy. They have a huge, huge lot. They also sell gas and tacos out in the parking lot- the price of gas is clearly displayed on the LED light board across the street. I haven't tried their tacos, but I do somewhat approve of the sentiment around here to Taco with your Mouth Open. I couldn't find the clearance section in this store. read more

Always a good visit here, the staff is always helpful and polite. It is alil scary to see bare shelves even if it was for things I would never buy. No matter what HEB is always there for every shopper. When it was time to check out I was helped by Ash or "Scarface" lol I call him that because his right eye looked like a cat clawed it. The bagger girl Hannah was very funny and proficient, I kinda felt bad I bought so many groceries but she took care of her job with ease. Everything is bigger in Texas! Including this Gi-normous HEB nestled right in to the Bulverde community in this side of town. Even though most go to the HEB on O'Connor and Nacogdoches this HEB has everything! It's almost like walking in to a Super Walmart. You get lost here looking for things but surely but slowly you walk out of here with more than you've bargained for...stuff on your grocery list, stuff that you want, stuff that you gotta have and stuff you aren't even sure it got in to your extra large grocery cart. At lunch time they get you with all kinds of sampling so you sample and you'll want it...Currently guilty of being hooked on a queso by 'Culinary Cowgirls' that might of always been there always but I wouldn't have known about if I wouldn't have sampled it at his location! I love this place so much my husband doesn't want me coming too often to this location but it's kind of hard when they sell mouthwatering Brisket and BBQ already made at this location! This is for the bbq store. Terrible service. Food is decent. But the point of asking for a side salad with ranch dressing is to get the ranch dressing. And the point of getting a bbq sauce on the side is actually getting the sauce. After all, you do serve frikkin' bbq. Obviously the guy at the window needs classes on attention to detail. I tried calling back but after 12 minutes on hold I figured the employees or the supervisor didn't want to talk to angry customers. Makes H-E-B look pretty bad in my opinion. I love that this location is clean, spacious and it isn't crowded. The parking is extensive and hassle free. In addition, their gas station is clean/ spacious as well. I didn't have trouble finding what I needed and the H-E-B associates are helpful as well. Their produce, drinks among other items are in abundance. H-E-B is a gem in the South Texas area and wish they opened some in the DFW area. I recommend this location if you are in the area. read more

Love this HEB. Everything about it, BUT..... I visited the TexMex Taco shop on 3/1/2020. It is located inf the Service Station.Convenience Store. I ordered 3 Taco's to go. A Brisket/egg, a sausage/egg, and a potato egg. At home,Just to let her friends know, I opened first the Brisket/egg. (all three were warm, but had obviously been sitting too long under the heat lamp. The eggs were dry, and had started to turn from yellow to a shade of gray/green). The brisket was very small pieces, barely a half teaspoon, in the whole taco. The sausage taco, looked the same as the brisket one, small portion of sausage. The potato/egg had half gray eggs, and half boiled potato cubes. No salsa, Pico, or any other condiments were offered. On the plus side, the staff were all helpful and pleasant in taking the order. (I'll continue to get my tacos from Bill Miller, the Brisket and sausage and potato tacos there, are fresh, less expensive, and sauces and condiments are placed in the bag always.) read more

Good afternoon, I was recently at this H-E-B location and was at the check out with my mother. My mom was unsure when to put her card in the reader to pay and an associate named Angela that was checking us out (she was wearing a Pokémon belt) felt the need to be very hateful 3 times when asking my mother to step back. I understand we're in a global pandemic and need to ensure we are distanced far enough away from each other to prevent exposure but her behavior was unacceptable. I thought H-E-B was supposed to have friendly employees, but obviously this location does not hire people who have good customer service. My mother and I feel so disrespected. read more

I don't shop at this HEB very often since I usually go to the Walmart that is near my place. But seeing the good prices and the cleanliness has me thinking twice about whether I should go back to Walmart. I was REALLY disappointed to see that HEB grocery store chains have continued to ignore CDC guidelines regarding social distancing during the Covid-19 Pandemic. I addressed my concern at this location with their associate named "Hunter." Hunter told me that if I didn't like it, "I could use their personal shopping services!" When I asked why HEB did not try to PROVIDE one way isles, stock their shelves when the store was closed, or do their personal shopping during non-peak hours, Hunter just shrugged it off, and went back to his task of organizing a display on an end cap of the idle! This was his priority, not the safety of his customers. "What about the safety of the shoppers in your store?" I asked Hunter. "Nothing I can do about it" he replied nonchalantly, waving me away. So, I left and tried to quickly check out through the self checking. Customers were packed in there with again, an inability to observe social distancing. As I was facing my scanner, away from others, a MANAGER came from the adjacent area, now facing me, and lowered her mask yelling to one of the two associates working in this area. Shouting to get their attention, she announced she needed to talk to them about a schedule change! I was disgusted. I had a vision of her mouth as a spray paint can shooting Covid into my face. I was thankful that, unlike other shoppers, I wore an n95 nurse mask!! I tried a different HEB location which I had reviewed months before, and had voiced similar concerns. At the different HEB location, unfortunately, it was no better. This time I talked to the manager showing her the photos I took and posted here. Their manager, "Lisa," was responsive and apologetic. She immediately went to talk to the associates. Problem is that I had been to this location months ago, before 3000 people a DAY were reported dieing of Covid in the USA, and voiced the same concerns!! The Covid Pandemic is getting WORSE, and HEB is getting No Better!! As I left HEB, I had to go back in to the store to ask Lusa to talk to a Vendor that blocked my truck in the parking area. I guess selling Mexican Food from a LunchTruck is more important than their designated Customer Parking! HEB's security guard in the parking lot named "Mike" stated he "Didn't Care" about the vendor who had allegedly been parking there "for years," and this "wasn't his problem." Mike ignored me, and scrolled through his personal cell phone. Well, it's a "New World" with Covid killing people. The parking lot security guard, and the food vendor selling Mexican food in the parking lot wire no masks, as though Covid could not be transmitted outside. Here is my message to customers, HEB and their employees, and subcontractors: I'm a Critical Care ICU RN. Eighty Percent of the patients who are put on a Ventalator with Covid, the Die!! We need to be aware of our actions in the community, and keep each other safe. We are all in this together!! Thank you Lisa for at least addressing this issue with your employees and vendors. That's leadership. Unfortunately, policies that allowed this irresponsible behavior will be back to "business as usual" after your shift is over. Make no mistake, we all need to adjust to the "New Normal," right now, to save lives and flatten the curve. Please, speak up and speak out when you see situations like this. I like this place but my favorite thing has always been their rotisserie chicken salad . They always had shredded chicken in the salad and recently have started cutting it into cubes . it is not the same at all! So if anyone reads this who has any pull -- please ! I've never seen a city love their grocery store as much as SA loves HEB. My husband and I mainly go to HEB for our grocery needs and this location has become our favorite (because it's also close to home). There's a BBQ joint attached as well as froyo inside. They need more (maybe a boba place?) Because it's new, it's pretty clean and organized. There are some produce items that I can only find at other HEB locations, but it's not a big deal. I like how they offer several organic options on their meat and produce as well. You can even find a whole aisle dedicated to natural & organic items. They also have a huge Texas Backyard area for landscape, plants, and outdoor needs. What I like about this location is that they have a huge sushi section...and now a Poke section! I love Poke! It's ~$10 for a bowl of poke but the couple that owns it is so friendly! Staff in the pharmacy area is also friendly and helpful. Kinda wished it was a HEB Plus though. read more

I LOVE MY NEW HEB!!! Well, not new anymore, but I've been coming here since it opened. It's 5 minutes from my house. I love it! Where to start? Well, the deli section is awesome! The sushi section has a lot more choices than other HEB's in the area. It also seems to be much fresher than the others as well. All the in-house roasted deli meats are great! I especially love the roast beef. It's my favorite! All the different cheeses are great and the olive bar is outstanding. All the employees are friendly and helpful, no matter when I'm there whether it's morning or night. I can always find what I'm looking for, which is great. The pharmacy people are incredibly kind and helpful, too. Fresh fruit and produce! The butcher's are super knowledgeable about everything! It's been great getting to know them and get their advice on cuts of meat and cooking them. I will keep being a customer here for a LONG TIME!!!! read more

Surprisingly good BBQ at supermarket! I had the two meat plate, brisket and ribs and both were very good. The brisket had a nice char and a pink ring to it and the ribs were pretty good, although not fall of the bone variety. Would I drive over there again just to eat? Probably not as its a little ways away, but if I need some groceries and something quick for lunch or supper--you bet. read more

This is the newest location by my home and being the HEB addict that I am, I had to check it out asap. So we dropped in about the 5th day they were open. I really liked the flow of the store. It is a big location but is not a plus store. Which I definitely don't mind. It is the perfect size store for me!Instead of being a plus store, they have a BBQ restaurant built in! Haven't tried it yet, but will be my next mission. Oh and an Orange Leaf! Mmm! All the employees were so nice and helpful in pointing people in the direction of certain items. So.. breakdown.. new store, not too big not too small, built in restaurant, and froyo... I'm sold! If you buy the rotisserie chicken from HEB, please make sure you check it to see if it is completely cooked! I purchased one on Monday and spent the whole day on Tuesday at home sick missing work.
