Came here one afternoon. They close early at 430 so try to be early. Outside seating only. It can be cold here so make sure you have a sweater with you. We choose our crabs and lobster. We had steam and grilled. Surprisingly the grilled lobster really came out really tasty! I would come to have it again. I just hope the owner will be nicer. This is a very popular seafood place! Despite the pandemic, the wait was long even when we didn't wait too long to order. To get most of the item, you order inside but to get the crab outside, there is separate ordering place right by the crab. You pick the crab you want and they steam it after you pay. So we ended having to wait for the items we ordered inside and the crab (which took the longest). I love seafood and you definitely get a good amount here at a great price! We got the prawns, clams, and crab along with fries and clam chowder. Usually there is an out door dining area to eat but closed due to the pandemic so we drove to a nearby park for a picnic. By the time we got to eat, I can taste the seafood was over cooked - most apparent in the prawns. They also seasoned the seafood a little too much which made it salty. Overall I love being able to pick your food live! This is probably the only place i have been to in California that does this. I bought crabs in order to make crab enchiladas with chipotle cream cheese sauce for Thanksgiving. This business was recommended, and I will only buy crabs from this business in the future. I was impressed by the crab tank. The owner boiled the crabs for me and cut them which made it easy to pick the meat out. The owner was friendly, helpful, and professional. He deserves an award! Hidden gem of Oxnard. Never thought in my life I would eat a spider crab. Coming from LA and fishing off the piers we usually throw those suckers back knowing how dirty they are. Coming to HC Seafood their crabs are caught and brought next to their store. The rock crabs were also very good but the spiders are a must try. Never had a crab so sweet tasting, literally sweet tasting. Owner of the shop was super chill and answered any questions. We found H. C. Seafood by just being in the area. My wife who has been hospitalized for several months and is now in recovery wanted a lobster roll. Not finding a place we pulled into H.C. Seafood. She was unable to walk steadily at this point so I went in and order two grilled lobsters. I explained to the lady who took our order that it would be a bit difficult for my wife to break open the lobster claws. She was so kind that they cracked open the claws and served to meal on a take out dish on a tray so we could enjoy our meal in the car. After I retuned to get a wet nap to clean us up, she came and gave us two large ones and insisted on meeting my wife. She came to the car just to give her good wishes for a speedy recovery. Aside from the great food you can tell the lady truly cared. Bravo to a great place. You have made a lifetime customer of both of us. H.C. Seafood at the corner of channel Islands Boulevard and Victoria Avenue in the old fisherman's wharf has never disappointed me. I have tried several other local places and I am surprised at just how reasonable it is however, there is only outdoor seating. Just pick it up to go. The only disadvantage is they close at 5 PM daily. Their crab and lobsters are live in the tanks. My favorite is the shrimp and chips eight large pieces of shrimp usually a meal that last me two days reheated in my ninja oven. They've been here quite a long time. read more

I was craving fried Oysters all day. Thought I'd give a local spot a try. I wanted to give a honest opinion. Keep in mind I love their Fish & Chips and their crab. I was so bummed to see their Oysters were covered with a very thick batter that tasted highly of nutmeg or cinnamon and was not cooked in the inside you could hardly see the Oyster in the middle. It's really a 3 star place, but since it's the only seafood place around, it gets a 4. Doesn't get a 5 because it is what it is. Staff and service is sufficient. The guy picking my two rock crabs was kind enough to choose "good ones", whatever criteria that means. The lady is friendly, I guess.... when I asked for a spoon, she said, you can go to the counter and ask for one. Un, okay. 5 star service would be if she went around, grabbed the spoon and brought it to me. Sure, I'm being a bit picky... but I prefer to keep 5 stars for really exceptional places. Food wise, it's very delicious. I had to come twice, unfortunately since the first time they ran out of spot prawns. I can't wrong a business for selling out of their inventory. Good for them. Drove 1 hr from LA to get away from all the COVID and protest in the area. Glad to have made a trip out to H&C seafood. They had their tables spaced, encouraged masks when not eating, but NO hand sanitizing stations around the property so I just washed my hands in the bathroom. H&C is located in a strip mall at the Fisherman's wharf. As you walked towards the restaurant, you could smell the seafood cooking. There was a good amount of customers seated. If you want crab they had a different station than the main ordering station. On the menu, rock crab, spider crabs and lobster. All the basics available at the cook station...clam chowder, fish and chip, fried and grilled shrimp, shrimp cooked with veggies, etc... We ordere 1 lb prawns grilled, 3 rock crabs streamed and 2 orders of shrimp grilled with veggies. All for abt $120. Seafood was fresh and cooked to our liking. Overall good experience. This place has really gone downhill from the last time we came here pre-pandemic. Went with my family today and ordered a variety of the fried seafood plates (fish plate, oyster plate, seafood combo, etc) plus a few clam chowders and sodas. First of all, everything tasted like they were fried in oil that was reused MULTIPLE times already! Not only that, they were also semi burnt. The fish fillets were dry, the calamari was rubbery and every bite I took had something that looked like plastic. Maybe they just didn't clean them well enough? The oysters were barely tasted inside all that batter. Soooo wrong. The clam chowder was so watery that my son called it clam "broth"; I insisted "clam water"! lol He even added that the store-bought clam chowder from Costco was so much better!!! Charging $8.25 for a "large" clam chowder that isn't anywhere NEAR as thick as chowders should be, and without even one single pack of oyster crackers to go with it, was just too steep. Unfortunately, we ordered about 8 of those damn platters that should've been called A BUNCH OF FRIES WITH A SIDE OF SEAFOOD--and couldn't complain, nor ask them to redo, cuz we all know what happens to those food behind the counter! Sigh.. Perhaps I might've considered returning had the staff been just a tiny bit friendly...but no. Such a big regret spending a couple of hundred bucks here. Redondo Beach is usually our go-to, but today we opted for Ventura Beach and hence why we chose this place. Totally regret even having snubbed Andria's Seafood Restaurant for this one. BIG MISTAKE. This place is bomb.com!!! And I do not say that about many places. This is a no frills seafood place. Don't expect anything fancy because in my book, when you eat seafood you eat with your hands.... Just saying... Anyway, I come here about once every other month for their fresh spider crabs and fresh Spotted Shrimp. I can't even describe how fresh the seafood is here. They offer other dishes as well such as clam chowder, fish n' chips, Tilapia, seafood combos, etc. usually when i come here the spider crabs and the spotted shrimp is my go to. When you walk up to the area where you have to pay there are also tanks directly in front of the register where you will find lobster, dungenous crabs, spotted shrimp, and i believe there is fish as well. Food- Like I said above I come here for their spider crabs and their spotted shrimp. I've tried the other crabs that they offer there as well, however I find that the spider crabs are really meaty and tasty and well worth what you pay for. They will steam the crabs for you for free if you decide on consuming them there. With the spotted shrimp, you can order them grilled or steamed. Ordering them grilled is little bit more expensive than steamed. I personally LOVE them steamed because you can truly appreciate their flavor. I have also tried their seafood combo which comes with fries and cole slow. The sea food is battered and fried. I remember it being good however I LOVE the fresh seafood better. Parking- This restaurant is located in an area by the water which has plenty of parking spaces. I have never had an issue finding parking even on the weekends when its super busy. There have been times where i've come here and there was a tour bus. Service- i think the service is pretty good. When you walk into the area where you choose your crabs, there is always someone there waiting to help you and answer any questions you may have. They even help you chose your crabs and tell you which one is a better choice. I think the owners are very nice. Especially the lady. I especially love this place not only for the fresh seafood but also because they allow you to bring your own rice and drinks. Other places such as places in San Pedro do not allow you to bring outside food into their eating area. Well, it just so happens there is a spot for Fish & Chips at every entry point to the sea around here. In this area leading to Silver Strand Beach, The Wharf hides H.C. Seafood. They offer fresh seafood, crabs and a whole buncha fried options to consider. The main eatery holding down the fort here. Quite ample parking and no noticeable signs to point you in the correct direction so gotta head to right corner of the Wharf. It's hidden in the area where you see a small walkway bridge. Now that you've found it, let's eat! *FISH PLATE with CHIPS ($9.25): Only one option for fish & chip and this is it! Big plate of French fries and 5 good sized pieces of Cod, battered and deep fried to a nice crisp. It has a nice crunch to it in every bite yet the fish inside is flaky soft. Yummy! Fries have a crunchy exterior yet soft & moist inside... I like that too! Their tartar sauce is homemade and there's a bit of sweetness to it that's not typical of the standard tartar sauce, but it's a nice change ;) *MAHI MAHI: My Pops is a grizzled Navy Man who has a keen taste for fresh fish. Everywhere he goes he can pick up whether something is fresh or frozen. So our first question when we enter a "fresh Seafood" joint is obviously "What's fresh?" Live seafood place in a rundown plaza next to a dock, what is not to like? Plenty of parking spaces and seats. We got there around 2PM, ordered two steam rock crabs, and a fried seafood combo plate that included two pieces of fishes, 3 or 4 pieces of scallops and 4 pieces of shrimps served with French fried and coleslaw. Food was average nothing bad but the ambiance was top notch because we get to dine al fresco and the weather was great. Over all it was a good experience, recommend this location. read more

My mother is retired and once in a while I take her to places so she does not get bored at home. I notice that she craves for crabs more often than before. I try to take her to restaurants where they serve crabs. In our area, most restaurants serve Dungeness crabs. We took a trek to drive to Oxnard to treat her with the spider crabs at HC Seafood. It took us almost two hours to get to the place. My luck, there were no spider crabs available but I was glad that they had rock crabs available. My mom enjoyed the outing. And that was enough for me. Next time, I have to call in advance if I want spider crabs. Food preparation was quick and we had a picnic of rock crabs, salmon, shrimps and scallops. Not a seafood fan, or allergic to seafood but somehow ended up here? Go for the chicken wings, which are a must even with all the delicious seafood around! While the prices are not quite cheap, it's definitely worth the price tag. This place is great for a quick bite but also great for a big party as there are many tables in the seating area. The staff are generally super nice and give free refills on soda the first time around. Parking is pretty abundant in the adjacent lot. My boyfriend has been coming here for years and had always told me that they had some really fresh steamed crab. Fortunately, we made the trek over to the beach in Ventura for a weekend getaway and I was able to try! I'm not too big of a fan of fried seafood so we didn't order any. The crab ordering is done outside and you're able to pick exactly the crabs you want. They'll steam them for you and crack them.
