When I walked in, on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, it was about a 7 minute wait. There are some seats outside while you wait, and there were not a-lot, but a noticeable amount of bugs. After our name got called, we got outdoor seating. It looked great but the table was still wet, and so was the seat. We got our drinks minutes after we sat down, I liked that after getting the drinks, you got to order food without another wait. The mimosa was very good and well balanced, which tasted great. I got the linguine Alfredo pasta, it was a pretty big portion in my opinion, but was amazing! My family also got a few things, which i tried, first my mother got the steamed clam which was pretty good, it was very garlicky and buttery, she also got the sand dab. It came with mash potatoes and carrots, it was her first time trying it, and it was really good! But what brings it down to 3 stars is that there were flies EVERYWHERE. So many, we had to move inside. And there were still flies inside! One even flew into the mimosa!!!! And onto my garlic bread. I wouldn't recommend this place if you get annoyed pretty easily. When you see so many flies, you definitely question the hygiene of the place. The waiter said it was the fly season, but the neighboring restaurants did not have any fly infestation like this place. But other than that they had average food here! So if you're comfortable fanning your food constantly while trying to enjoy a meal then this is your place. ;) read more

Came to Ojai w my sister and the kids. The weather was beautiful so we sat outside. Our service was super helpful and very nice. They had a happy hour 2pm-5pm so we were happy w that. Many choices for very affordable prices. The main menu also had great seafood and land options. We ordered French fries 6/10 nothings special to remark but also not terrible. "Crab" cakes 6/10 these Salmon cakes were off happy hour. Granted it says crab it was as straight salmon. They definitely did not lack in salmon I can say that. They whole cake was salmon which resulted in to be too dense and a bit dry. No matter the sauces and lemon, couldn't help. I loved the idea of capers in them. Oysters on half shell 7/10 the oysters were fresh and delicious. My biggest peeve was the fact they weren't shucked fully. The oysters were still attached to the shell which was kinda annoying. They could of been cleaned better. Overall The oysters were huge tho and tasty. Tuna Tartare 7/10 my sister had I did not try that but she said it was good. Sushi Spicy tuna 9/10 & yellowtail 8/10 (per my 8 yr old son) he said every was good. If there's a kid who knows spicy tuna this kid right here is an expert. Swordfish and roasted mushrooms 7/10 swordfish was delicious great flavor and fresh. The mushroom had garlic and could of used a tad more salt but still tasty. Drink The Elderberry martini 7/10 was strong and had some sweet yet earthly flavor. Nothing fancy a bit pricey even off happy hour for a simple martini. In all everything was fairly decent. Manager was extremely rude and servers were very unfriendly and kept seating walk-ins that came in after us ahead of us. When we questioned the manager with the blonde hair she told us we were early and had to wait. Turns out they mixed us up with a large party of 11 and we were only 2 but never bothered to ask us if we were part of the large party-just assumed we were and left us hanging. After asking two more times why they weren't seating us, they finally said the rest of your party isn't here and you're early. We said, "we have no 'rest of our party, there are only 2 of us." With no apology whatsoever, they finally seated us. It was amazing and disappointing that no one even apologized to us despite keeping us waiting so long due to their own erroneous assumptions. The food was mediocre. We had an artichoke which was undercooked and hard. We also had fish and oysters which were about a 5-6. The flavor was good, but the portion felt a bit small for the price and the rings were a little chewy. There were only two tentacle pieces, with the rest being rings. For the main course, we ordered the Idaho Whole Trout. The fish was cooked well and nicely plated, but unfortunately it was overly salty -- the combination of capers (already salty) and extra seasoning made it hard to fully enjoy the otherwise delicious flavor. The salad on the plate had a noticeable earthy taste, as if it hadn't been washed properly, and the side of vegetables was just two or three small pieces of broccoli -- more like garnish than a real side dish. Presentation The overall presentation was okay but could be improved. The fish looked good and the plate was well-sized, but the salad felt rushed and the dressing served in a plastic cup felt out of place for a sit-down restaurant of this type. Small touches like using ceramic containers, adding more color, and offering a proper portion of vegetables would make the dish look much more balanced and appealing. Service The service was the highlight of our visit. Nea greeted us with a big smile, was attentive without being intrusive, and checked on our table every few minutes to make sure everything was going well. Her wine recommendation paired nicely with the calamari and showed good knowledge of the menu. Small details like fresher lemon wedges and a smoother wine-pouring ritual could improve the experience, but Nea's warmth and professionalism elevated the meal. Stopped by on a Friday evening with my partner. The restaurant wasn't very busy, and we were seated immediately. There is a cute outdoor seating area as well as indoor seating. I grew up in Ojai. When Sea Fresh opened it was fantastic, referring to the Sushi & Ambiance. It was wonderful to have 5 Star Sushi in town. Unfortunately, it declined. Ten years later we gave Sea Fresh another try, no changes. Thrity+ years later, I brought my parent's. They aren't Sushi people but love Fish & Chips. We all ordered this, swapped a Caesar salad for the house salad. Great choice! Seriously some of the best Fish & Chips we've had, (I was a commercial fisherman in AK). I've had lots of Fish & Chips in my life. BTW salad was good as well. My issue is the Sushi. I ordered 2 simple rolls of Sushi & they weren't edible. I tried one piece of each roll, spit them into my napkin. I've had better 2 day old gas station sushi. I will definitely will go back for the Fish & Chips. Our server was great, even took the Sushi off the bill. I won't name them, I don't want any trouble for them removing item's. There is a great Sushi place in Ojai. I'm sure I can't name them, but they're not on Main Street. Last issue is the fishy smell when you walk in. Fresh fish should not smell fishy!! It should smell Sea Fresh! I don't know what happened to the food the last three times in a row I have gone. The food has just been awful. The third time I went, I had to return the main dish. I won't go into details. I did enjoy the hors d'oeuvres, which was shrimp cocktail, which they really can't mess up and fried zucchini with sauce. I had the calamari and cocktail sauce to replace. They were soggy and some were burnt to the crisp. The service was great as usual, and they did not charge me for my main dish or soggy calamari to my surprise. The place was clean and inviting. Both the breakfasts and the dinners we have had there were enjoyable at all levels--friendly helpful staff; great food; prompt service from the kitchen. However, at dinner last night there was one disappointing surprise. Everyone else really enjoyed what they had---Mexican shrimp cocktail, blackened salmon salad. My disappointment was with the ceviche I ordered. Simply put, it wasn't really ceviche. Instead it was chunks of pre-cooked white fish mixed with chopped tomato and onion...no sign of lime juice/lemon juice or the usual herbs and seasonings that go with that. Extremely Disrespectful Experience I've never written a bad review before, but this experience honestly shocked me. I called Sea Fresh Ojai to make a reservation, and when I simply asked the person on the phone how their day was going, they hung up on me. No explanation, no apology, just hung up. That's not just unprofessional it's plain rude. I was genuinely trying to be kind and support a local spot, but if this is how they treat customers before they even walk through the door, I can only imagine what the in-person experience is like. As Ventura County residents, my daughter and I have enjoyed day trips to Ojai for many years. Sea fresh has consistently been one of my favorite lunch spots. We went yesterday and had oysters Rockefeller, grilled oysters, artichoke and fish tacos. My daughter had mentioned that one of the oysters tasted off, but we did not think much of it until about an hour later. We both suffered extreme intestinal distress. (I will spare the details.) I called the restaurant that night to notify them so that they could pull the oysters. I was a bit surprised when the manager refused to speak to me and gave me a number for "corporate." When I called the number it was just a voicemail and I have not heard back. I am beyond sad that I do not think I will be able to look at oysters let alone eat them for quite a while. If ever, I also would warn others to be aware. The worst part was that the manager did not even think it was worth speaking to me. From the hostess stand, to the waiters, just a great group of folks that appreciate your business. My order has always been taking correctly and service is on point. No issues. The food here is stellar and you definitely have to go with the seafood options. Their clam chowder is amazing. Thick and creamy, better then a lot of spots despite being a little ways from the ocean. Their chowder transports you to feeling like your right on the beach. Another favorite of mine is the spicy tuna tartar. One of the best dishes I've had as an appetizer and it's just so good I order it as my main dish. Fresh tuna, perfectly green avocado, and the sauce is BOMB chili oil and a kick of flavor. I have to get this dish EVERYTIME I come. I've brought friends, I've brought family - everyone has always really liked their meals and proclaimed that they would definitely be back.
