They won't let you add extra tzatziki sauce. Bad business. Good atmosphere location was great but yeah bad for business.

Owner is rude and disrespectful. Kicked out my friend because she needed a fork without buying any food.

We ordered the vegan chicken and falafel gyros with the delicious cottage fries along with the yummy and warm mint tea they brew.

We were able to try a wide variety of dishes, and every single one was exceptional. I have dietary restrictions (no onions or garlic), and the kitchen and staff were incredibly accommodating. They prepared separate versions of several dishes for me without hesitation, and I never felt like I was getting a lesser experience. It's rare to find a restaurant that can accommodate food sensitivities so thoughtfully while still delivering incredible flavor. The food was absolutely delicious from start to finish, and the service was impeccable. The staff was warm, attentive, and made our birthday celebration feel special without ever being overbearing. Everyone in our group left talking about how amazing the food was. We couldn't have asked for a better meal or a better overall experience. Mediterranean Exploration Company has definitely earned a spot on our list of favorite Portland restaurants, and we can't wait to come back.

We weren't too hungry and ordered 3 dishes to share - the hamachi crudo, baked feta with Blackberries, and braised Greek greens. The service was pretty fast, we received our food within 15 mins. The hamachi crudo was tasty with fresh fish that balanced well with the yummy smoked eggplant, tamarind soy, black harissa mayo, and crispy ginger. The baked feta was the heartiest dish, it came out with piping hot pitas to dip into the creamy savory/sweet feta and Blackberries. The braised Greek greens felt like the most basic dish out of the 3, collard greens cooked with a lemon/olive oil finish, which tasted as described but not exciting enough to order again. Just as the name implies, this restaurant is a nice way to try Mediterranean dishes for those who don't eat it often. Admittedly, the cuisine isn't in our top favorites, but all the dishes were executed well, true to their description, and made for some fun bites.

I ordered the lamb kebab (it was the staff's recommendation). Visually it looked fine, but the flavor was disappointing: the meat tasted bitter and overcooked, almost like it was burnt. I don't recommend getting that dish. Based on that experience, I can't recommend dining here.

What an incredible food journey today at Salam, a Lebanese gem that deserves every bit of praise…read more It all started with their flatbread--warm, soft, and almost like a delicious roti. We paired it with chicken and hummus, and wow--absolutely amazing. Then came the lamb shank, and it stole the show. Perfectly cooked, fall-off-the-bone tender, and the rice? Packed with flavor. A solid 10/10. We also tried the chicken seekh with saffron rice, which was nicely done. The ground lamb pizza wasn't my personal favorite--felt a bit too tomato-heavy--but my friends loved it, so it really depends on your palate. Now, the grand finale: Turkish coffee with a mixed dessert platter. And let me tell you--Knafa + Turkish coffee = pure heaven. I had a foodgasm. Truly one of those rare, unforgettable dessert experiences. The service was wonderful--I believe it was the owner who personally checked on us, gave thoughtful recommendations, and brought such a warm, positive vibe to the entire place. It really elevated the experience. The ambience is also on point--cozy yet vibrant, perfect for a meal with friends, family, or even a low-key date night. I'm recommending this place to everyone. It's a must-try. 100 out of 100.

We've always talked about trying it, so it felt like the perfect birthday plan. The owner, Dennis, was incredibly kind--so genuine, grateful, and full of faith. The way he treated us went far beyond just serving food; it truly made our whole day. We left not just full from the meal, but with full hearts. His kindness meant more than he probably knows. Thank you so much:)

First of all I want to start by saying that the Owner was super nice! I read wonderful reviews…read moreabout him and his wife who run the place, so I had to try it out for myself. I ordered the chicken Gyro and asked for cucumbers. Unfortunately, the chicken was not very tasty. I was hoping for charbroiled chunks of chicken breast, like "I Heart Gyro" does. Instead it was thin strips of seasoned chicken that were probably thawed out from the freezer. The Tzatziki sauce was very good though! Because I asked for extra sauce, it made the Iceberg lettuce soggy, as well as the thin slices of onions. By the time I picked off all the soggy pieces of Iceberg lettuce and thin slices of onions, I was left with just two slices of tomatoes and two slices of cucumber! Definitely not worth paying the extra dollar for two slices of cucumber! I paid almost $15 for this Gyro that lacked crisp veggies and they were stingy with the Feta cheese! Only a few crumbles. I feel very disappointed, because I read wonderful reviews about this place. Too bad, so sad! P.S.: If you want a delicious Chicken Gyro with marinated and grilled chunks of chicken breast, "I Heart Gyro" can't be beat!

So happy to add "I Heart Gyro" to our list of Mediterranean restaurants!…read moreIt's easy to get to, the dining room is medium sized w/booths, it's clean inside & out and the food is delicious! Plus, I love going into places where the employees seem genuinely happy to work there & this place is no different. We were greeted warmly, questions were answered & in spite of ordering at a counter, they didn't forget about us. They brought drinks & silverware to the table, then checked up on us a couple of times during our meal. They have a menu with several choices, the portions were generous enough that we had plenty to bring home for another meal. If you're into "clean eating", this is a great example. The food and sauces aren't OVERLY salted or seasoned, but just right. You can taste the actual flavors of the food, which was so refreshing! I've included pictures of their current menu & the dishes we ordered. We're definitely looking forward to visiting again!

The first time they had nice big chunks of chicken breast that were charred just right. This time it was just chicken strips and I felt that they barely grilled them. There wasn't much charred taste to them. I tried the plain garlic sauce this time. it was OK, but I really liked the spicy garlic sauce that I got in my the first Gyro better. It was more flavorful.. I also got a small order of their fries. Must say the fries were pretty good. However, at over $17 ane charge ,before tip, I don't feel it's worth that much. I noticed us when you look at the photos from the reviews some of the chicken chunks look more grilled and charred than other times.. I guess it depends on who works there. Too bad they're pretty inconsistent. That's exactly why I will not be coming back.
