I can find things for my mom or my dad, my sister and often times just myself! The thing that I particularly love about Brown and Hawkins is that they stock items that I would want. Not everything says Seward Alaska on it. They actually have really cool items from pottery to jewelry to clothing items that anybody would love! It's not just a tourist shop. It's a great place for people to find gifts that will bring them joy beyond the experience of vacation. On top of that they have amazing customer service and everyone there is incredibly friendly and helpful! I am an advocate of selling as much local, native made goods as possible. I had a conversation with the buyer at the store and he was telling me with each passing year there are less native carvers and artists because elders are passing away. They have some incredible pieces of art in the store. For people that don't have large sums of money to invest in art pieces, they have some local pieces of jewelry, Alaska themed shirts and hats, stickers, mugs, magnets, books and cook books, etc. They have also have a whole aisle of toys for out-of-towners who are desperate to satisfy a whiny kiddo during a trip. They even have ponchos, backpacks, umbrellas and other immediate need items that are often very hard to find in a town this size. Honestly, don't judge and book by its cover.
