They had a lot of Russian stuff, but also some Alaskan stuff too. As for the Russian stuff, they had Soviet era hats and pins, propaganda posters, Russian lacquer boxes, Russian stacking dolls, and stuff like that. They also had carvings which I found interesting. I love wandering through Hardware stores and this one near to Seward Small Boat Harbor is big (2…read morebig floors) and the kind that you might expect in this locale. If you're looking for fishing equipment, locally made knives (Big Beard Blades), mud boots, paint, and other community-specific hardware, this is your place and with extensive hours. In my role as a short time tourist, this place is better than a local gift shop. Gayle and I stopped in a few times, mostly for incidentals while trying to avoid home improvement items for back home. But wait, there's more! Seward Ship's Ace Hardware and Marine is just a short walk past the train station.

Basically there are no hardware stores, clothing stores (unless you a looking for a souvenir t-shirt) or sporting goods stores in Seward Alaska. This store had everything and was enjoyable to visit. It even had a second floor. My wife ended up purchasing some rubber boots for the ice, which we later found out were like the National boots of Alaska, and I purchased a knit cap with the Bay Traders logo. This is definitely a store for both the local folk and the tourists. Great customer service.

My daughter found some great souvenirs for herself and her friends. She found a cool blouse; unique earrings (ducklings, fork and spoon) and a little bag with delicate embroidery in the front. My wife found the perfect souvenir for herself, an awesome fitted, hooded, sweatshirt with Seward Alaska printed in the back. She also found an interesting book made by Life Magazine about mysterious places and people in the world. This store is organized and clean and do not have the chaotic atmosphere of most thrift stores. We are definitely coming back next time we are in Alaska. I highly recommend this to everyone.

This is an awesome little stop in Seward! The selection isn't going to approach a big bookstore by…read moreany means (and if you read niche genres you might not find more esoteric titles) but this store makes up for lower book volume with sheer coziness and warm vibes! There are well-organized shelves, curated sections, and pretty cool "extras" you don't find in the average bookstore. The yarn section is neat and respectably stocked if you're into knocking out two shopping lists at once :-) There's also some art prints, and a few miscellaneous stickers, pins, etc. that we know some of our friends would find a perfect little gift. The chill overhead music and warm reading nook with chairs in the front make this a welcome stop if you're looking to get out of the cold breeze for a few minutes. We left with a new book and a strong inclination to drop back in again on our next Seward visit.
