The tour guide, Justine, is a prominent local artist who excels not only at her art, but also as a raconteur extraordinaire. The downstairs museum is a must stop for first time visitors to Seward and gets you immediately up to speed with the history and pivotal events and figures who helped to shape what this town has become. There are a few onsite movies you can watch and also a community center downstairs that was well in use by a gaggle of children when we dropped in on a Saturday. If you're wandering around town in the cold and possibly in need of a public restroom, this is a warm haven you'll appreciate! Upstairs features internet stations, charging stations for mobile devices, and private booths for taking calls (SUPER useful if you're working remotely or while you travel). The book selection is well maintained and ample enough to likely have something you're interested in picking up.

I kind of felt as if my white grandmother had rented an old Boy Scout den (i.e., community center…read morebasement) and put all her stuff in it with labels galore. Fortunately it wasn't my grandmother's stuff so the museum did manage to have a lot of charm to it. If I ever described a museum as eclectic in the past, I didn't mean it. This, friends, is eclectic. There is a small collection of Iditarod stuff, and the exhibit on the Mt. Marathon race is pretty hilarious. Also, since the museum is so small you can get up really close to the exhibits; essentially it's honor code whether or not you touch the artifacts. Considering tickets are only $3, just go here and support a cute local place.
