Thank you so much for amazing service, promptness, answering all my questions (I had a lot ), explaining clearly and why my hvac was leaking water. My condensation drain line needed to be blown as it was clogged. My tech was Kyle. He also noticed my evap coil was quite dirty and recommended that to be done but was understanding it would all cost a lot altogether with diagnostic feet too. We were able to work out something though thankfully. I haven't found a good hvac service until now so will be going to them next time. read more

I'm always reluctant to leave a bad review for something trivial, everyone has a bad day, but for vital HVAC services we all use, I may save some other unsuspecting homeowner from aggravation and overpaying for a service. My review is almost verbatim the response I emailed to someone from GV who was supposed to come out for an estimate on a new air conditioning system. I'll let my email speak for itself as my review: "Dawn, "Your email ended up in my spam and I just saw it while clearing the folder out. Nonetheless, I was led to believe you were contacting me on Monday (per John) and by phone for an estimate. Which is yet another typical issue with GV. ''When I first began using your service, James came out and installed an Ecobee thermostat system. He was courteous, friendly and got it done correctly. "Since then, however, I've had nothing but grief with GV, starting when James came out to fix a broken hose in our humidifier. He didn't have one in the truck, so he went online and ordered one from Amazon. Unfortunately, he'd ordered the wrong size and had to 'improvise' to get it seated correctly. Ok, those things happen. "Following that, our furnace went out. James came out again -- promptly -- and said we needed a replacement fan motor. After he provided his estimate, I gulped, accepted the price and told him to order one. Once the motor arrived, he came out and installed it. All well and good. Until he gave me the statement that was TWICE the quoted price! He said he estimated using the wrong part number (sound familiar?). I called GV's office but the lady there (another family member, I'm sure) said that's the price. Period. So I bit the bullet, paid and let it go...again. "The latest (and final) incidents I had with GV was that my AC was only generating air because while the condenser was running, the AC fan wasn't.  This time Scott came out and after examining the unit, said he needed to replace the capacitor. He had one in the truck, and installed it. 'Only' $240 for a what was probably a $30 part. After replacing it and the fan came back on, he also recommended redoing wiring in the system connecting the capacitor -- for another $300!! I asked if it was essential and he said something like 'it would be a good thing but not essential.' So I passed.  Oh -- and he had to call the office to see if the service-call fee would be waived -- as I was told by 'the office' when I called them to send someone out if service was performed. He argued that replacing the capacitor was not really "service." BTW, he didn't even measure the coolant to see if there were any issues there -- all AC service calls I've had in the past do that. He returned from his call to the office and grudgingly deducted the $108 service call charge. He's one of the better upsell sales guys I've dealt with, so kudos to him for that. "The final straw (I'm a real masochist!) was that within 3 weeks after Scott's service call the AC went down -- again. This time John came out to inspect. He concluded that we needed a new air conditioner -- all this after I'd been paying for short term 'fixes' that never actually addressed the real issue of a 20+ year old unit. John told me a new system, installed, would cost upwards of $8-12,000 and if I couldn't afford it, GV would gladly finance it for me. I bet they would. "Bottom line, on Monday and this morning (Tuesday) I received 3 estimates from apparently reputable HVAC outfits that came out-- as well as ABT -- for a Trane or Lennox AC system replacement. The estimates from all 4 companies were just within my budget --not even close to John's 'ballpark'. I'll be signing a contract with one of them tomorrow [today, 5/28 I did] and thanking my lucky stars I don't ever have to deal with this "nice local family business" again. We thought we'd found our go-to HVAC company for all our needs in that area but after all these costly con games I knew better, hid my wallet and moved on. "Everything I related in this email is sadly accurate. I'll be posting this on Yelp and other social media. HVAC outfits don't have the greatest reputation as it is and GV has joined the ones to be avoided. This is a very well run family business. We have been using them for years and will continue. Last week my wife and I had GV heating at our home to replace our 50 year old boiler. Scott and John were on time and professional. The installation is perfect. While at our home Scott noticed a safety issue with our water heater and fixed it at no charge. We called GV's back in June to inspect our air conditioning unit after it had been submerged in a big rainstorm. So when we woke up yesterday morning to a chilly house, we knew we would call GV's again! A broken furnace is a bad problem to have when the high for the day will be in the single digits. Scott was over within a few hours. He diagnosed the problem and found what caused the problem. He explained the tests he ran and the problem. Now, of course, there is only one Rheem parts supplier in Chicagoland. But never fear, GV's made sure to get the parts immediately. Scott completed the work by 5pm and we were all set to have a toasty warm night. I highly recommend GV's Heating and Cooling because they promptly came out to our house, diagnosed and fixed the problem, prevented the problem from occurring again, explained the situation to me, cleaned up the work area, and inspected the unit/venting for any other potential problems - all for a reasonable price. As a new homeowner, I couldn't be happier with GV's Heating and Cooling - a trustworthy, small, family business - doesn't get any better than that. read more

Very bad experiences with this group of people. First off, they manipulate and lie to customers. They charge about $800 an hour for heating work when others charge maybe $100, and they achieve this outrageous income by installing a cheap part instead of the one you thought you would get for the price. They do not stand by their work and do not fix the problems that they caused. When it becomes an emergency, they flat out refuse to come and help you. We had to get another company to come and fix the problems they caused, but we still ended up with damage to our property because of their negligence which will likely cost thousands of dollars to repair. I should have read these reviews first as the lady who says he did the same to her is spot on with the kind of stuff he tried to pull on us. read more

We had a AC that was leaking coolant and I called the office to schedule a service call Friday before Memorial weekend and the next available service was the following Friday. The Technician arrived on Friday took a look and did agree that leakage of coolant for our AC unit. He didn't do any specific testing (ie. freon, dye, or leak detector) to determine where exactly the leakage was? He simply took my $105 for showing up and told me that there was a coolant leakage somewhere in the unit (which I already know, that was why I called them) In order to determine if it was the line, the condenser, or other issue he needed the office to call us with price for that service call. We NEVER heard back from the office. We reached out the next morning to check on price, the office simply replayed " We didn't install your unit, so we are NOT going to touch it" What kind of business are you running here? If you guys won't service anyone if you didn't install it, then tell me upfront on the phone or on the website. What a waste of my time and most importantly my hard earned money. Make sure you ask if they will provide service on your HVAC if NOT INSTALLED by GV's Heating & Cooling. read more

My heat went out on saturday. I called this company and they wanted to charge me double the diagnostic rate which is $85 on Weekdays and $170 on weekends. They also said they would charge me double the cost of parts. That is such a ripoff. I decided to wait till monday since the weather was still in the 60's. I called them 3 times on monday and never showed up. Than I called again on Tuesday they ended up coming at 4:30 and charging me twice the amount any other heating and air company would charge. If I could give 0 stars, I would. GV's serviced my heating and air conditioning units for a year with no problems. However, my air conditioner condenser (compressor?) died and I needed a new one. When they came out to give me a quote, they did a full analysis and suggested that we replace our ductwork to get more efficient cooling. I believed them because they were using all kinds of measuring tools to calculate output, pressure, temp, etc. What a mistake. We paid thousands of dollars and when they were done the system couldn't even cool the way the old system had! And I kept asking why the condenser was so much more expensive than my prior ones -- they talked about efficiency, etc. Turns out that was wrong, too. They only sell one brand, Trane, and for them you pay a premium for the name. I asked them to please fix the system so that it would cool the upstairs, and they did come out and replace the condenser with a larger one -- but only after I had another expert come out and explain to them that their measurements were completely wrong. The daughter had handled our project and she DEFINITELY didn't know what she was doing. But when the dad came out, he was no better. They forgot to include calculations allowing for our extra-high ceilings! Even worse, we had to have all their ductwork ripped out and replaced by a true professional -- someone who understands that having the ducts make a u-turn reduces efficiency! Geez. Even I know that -- but since our system is in the attic and difficult to access, I couldn't see. They may seem like a nice family, but the DO NOT know what they're doing. We flushed thousands down the toilet because of them -- and we don't have that kind of money to spare. read more
