I have lived on the North Shore for over 30 years & Assurance is BY FAR the best local HVAC company. They sent out a very experienced technician named Bart who I have now used multiple times. Bart is an expert at diagnosing issues and coming up with excellent repair ideas that avoid the need to buy a new furnace or AC. I have used other local HVAC companies in the past and many have sent out technicians that are either inexperienced or dishonest. I strongly recommend Assurance for regular annual maintenance, trouble shooting, repairs, and (when absolutely necessary) a new furnace and/or AC. The Assurance folks are honest, experienced and have very fair pricing. read more

Independent testing measured static pressure at 1.6 in. w.c. (typical acceptable range ~0.5), indicating significant airflow restriction. Independent evaluation identified a system airflow imbalance consistent with installation-related design issues, including return air sizing and overall system configuration. This condition can place long-term stress on HVAC equipment and reduce system lifespan. When reviewed with Assurance, their technician acknowledged the return ductwork issue had not been properly addressed. No home modifications or filter-related issues were identified that would explain the failure. Recommendation: major HVAC installation or replacement should include independent verification of system design, ductwork, and airflow balance prior to completion of work. read more

I've had nothing but trouble with this company since our HVAC install in 2014. Problem after problem, year after year. Last year I finally moved on to another company who solved a persistent issue that Assurance couldn't fix. Now, since my compressor failed last week, I learned that our 10 year Assurance/Carrier parts and Labor warranty had expired after five years because Assurance never registered our system and had given me no paperwork or instruction to register it myself. My in-unit HVAC stopped working over the weekend. I thought it was an issue with my Nest but it turned out to be an issue with the circuitry in my HVAC unit. At the recommendation of a neighbor, I called the emergency number and spoke with a very helpful tech. As the weather was warm, I got some space heaters and waited it out until Monday. Dave, the technician, was prompt (e.g. came towards the beginning of the time window provided) both times he came out. He diagnosed the problem correctly in the first visit, ordered the part and was back out two days later to fix everything. After fixing the issue, he had helpful maintenance tips and answered general questions about the life expectancy of my HVAC and cost to repair. The price seemed reasonable to me as well. I would recommend them wholeheartedly, especially Dave (though I think there are several guys named Dave that work there so this might not help). read more

After trying a few other companies, I am so happy I was able to connect with Assurance. I explained my situation to customer service and she put me in touch with their lead technician to chat over the phone, Harvey. He was so knowledgable and helpful and mentioned some guys on his team had done work in my building before. He sent a tech out right away who had building history, John, and he was able to fix the issue in about an hour. I have been using this company for about 15 years. They kept an old furnace working way longer than anyone would have thought possible. They gave me the best price on my new furnace and air conditioner a few years ago. Contrary to what others have said, they were very vocal about filling out all the warranty information ASAP. Hottest day of the year I started having issues with the air conditioner. A technician was out within a few hours. He identified the issue and fixed it. House is nice and cool now. I have referred them to a few friends and they have all been happy with the service provided. read more

My trusty furnace stopped working, again. I called for service to be done on a Saturday, knowing I would be paying time-and-a-half. Much to my bad luck, the company, again without disclosing, charged for repair technician travel time, which was from Gurnee IL (to the northside of Chicago). Part of me thinks the technician planned his day to maximize his daily income by zigzagging across Illinois. I had recommended repairs which I declined and went with another company. The practice of charging for travel time without telling the customer is dubious. I'm done with Assurance. read more

To start, the lady who makes appointments is one of the rudest people I have ever spoke to. On the day of our appointment, they proceeded to drive around our building four times and came to the conclusion they couldn't fix our unit. Didn't make any kind of contact with the resident, didn't even try. They had the main office call to say that nobody was home so they couldn't fix the unit. Unbelievable. Assume and Trustworthy! I have used Assurance many times but recently I was called out of town during a scheduled appointment. Instead of cancelling last minute I decided to give Assurance the garage access code. In my haste of leaving for my trip I left out a very large sum of cash without knowing it. While on my trip that day I received a call from the owner telling me his men found money while working on my system. He assured me that the money was all there and in the same place. When I returned the next day I was relieved to find every dollar there. It was over $10,000.00 that could of easily disappeared. 5 years ago, I purchased a Carrier 17 SEER 4 ton, 2 stage air conditioner. This unit has failed every year since it was installed. I spent nearly $9,000 and have been told that I probably have a faulty unit and it will need to be replaced. Like many other people, I was not made aware of the extended warranty. It is like Carrier new what they were distributing and will not stand behind it. The installers are just as much to blame as they new these were bad too. If I could give negative stars, I would. Assurance is the best HVAC company! I have recommended them several times to clients (I am a Coldwell Banker Real Estate Agent). But tonight I needed to place a service call for an a/c problem at my sister's house at Saddlebrook Farms-Grayslake. She has some health issues and I was panicked due to high temps/humidity. Assurance came in a reasonable timeframe and serviced her a/c. She is now cool, comfortable and can sleep! A huge relief to me since she lives alone. Highly recommend! read more

I recommend finding another company to do any system repair. The company is unresponsive to information requests as to the timing of parts ordered, setting an appointment, and general customer service. I left messages for the owner, who never returns calls yet is the only one in the office who has information on your repair status. I even stopped by on a Thursday afternoon to get answers and was told he was out of the office. I have had a broken AC since mid-June and after 4 visits out to the home, parts are now on order that will be in sometime mid next week. An appointment will be scheduled after they get in, not before. So, if you want your AC repaired by them, I am guessing you should set an appointment sometime in January with the hope that by Memorial Day you just might have a chance of getting something accomplished. I inherited this company from a home warranty company's vendor list. I am formally requesting the home warranty company remove this vendor from their list of approved vendors as they can not seem to repair anything and can not provide information or respond to information requests. I have taken 4 days off work to be there for the repair. They have shown up 3 out of 4 times, so I guess by percentages they are above 50% there. That is the bright spot. But with 4 days vacation wasted so far and more in the future, I feel they should either pay for my time off work or just find a business they are efficient at... Maybe be a satellite office for the DMV. 1 star is one too many for this company. They are useless. I could have taken AC repair courses, bought the parts, and done the work myself by now and I am closing in on Labor Day weekend without AC. Glad it was only 90+ for most of the time the AC was broken. read more

Poor customer service. I called on a Saturday and asked someone to come out to check my furnace. They didn't mention anything about time and a half or a charge for canceling. When the service man arrived I started asking questions about costs? He told me that he was charging time and a half and I told him I wouldn't need the service then. After about two months later I received a bill in the mail for $ 150 for the service I declined. I never agreed to pay for a cancellation of service fee and therefore, this was a unilateral agreement. Moreover, I declined service on a mistake they made which was not telling me the fee. It seems like charging for things they don't tell you about is a standard practice(see the post from Alex.). Also, if you live in a high rise condo in the city I wouldn't use Assurance because they also overcharge. I shopped around for a blown blower motor and they said that this would take 5-6 hours to replace. I used another company, TDH Heating and Cooling, and they fixed the motor in two hours at a $300 savings to Assurance. I plan on going to my condo board and management office to share my experience with this customer unfriendly company. read more

My office heat stopped working and when the Assurance tech (Joe) showed up, he instantly proclaimed that "the heat exchanger has cracks" and that I would need to replace the whole system for the price of $3400. It took him less than 30min to complete the appointment, after which he produced a bill reflecting charges for an hour and a half. After debate, the bill was scaled down to one hour's charge. The whole exchange didn't feel right, so I called another Heating repair company next day. They instantly saw that the problem was a simple matter of a leaking seal, which was fixed in 15 minutes. My heating system has worked fine since then. It seems that Assurance Heating has a policy of taking advantage of clients and swindling them with unnecessary and expensive repairs, and padding their billable time on service calls. When I called the company and complained to their representative (Harvey), he admitted the "mistake", but refused to return the money. Please beware and stay away from Assurance Heating!!! read more

I had to call a heating Company out to my house last week at around 10 pm. It was 5° out and very cold in my house . I called a couple different companies no one got back to me. I had a friend recommend me a heating company. They gave me Assurances phone number. A technician named Jeff called me back and arranged to get to my house within an hour. He was very polite and was able to get my heat back running . He Installed the new circuitboard in my furnace. The bill was high but reasonable considering it was after 12AM by the time it was finished. read more

Our condominium building has used Assurance for years, so loyalty clearly means nothing to Assurance. They overcharged one of the unit owners, blatantly. Over $450 for a valve on a radiator? But the real kicker was the guy they sent out to complete a full boiler checkup. One month later, after he gave the system an A-OK, we paid $2,000 for leaking pipes. I was not aware of all of this until after the fact. This company is not forthright, and the work they do is obviously sub-par. Our boiler is hammering at all hours of the night. Why pay someone to come check out your boiler if they don't identify any of the problems?! read more

My dad needed to get his heating fixed today, called their office and they came to our house as quickly as they possibly could. They knew exactly what the problem was and fixed it promptly. I am writing this review on behalf of my grandmother. Yesterday, she had a new furnace and air conditioning unit installed. She is elderly and lives alone with her little dog. Her old furnace was 25 years old and was no longer safe to operate. She was given the referral to Assurance by her neighbor. They came to assess and gave her a quote shortly after she called without any delay. They gave her a very fair price that beat the price another neighbor paid just three months ago. When the installers Erik and Michael were here they were very professional and patient. My grandmother is legally blind and they took the time to be sure she knew how to operate the new thermostat. They also made sure she could see it with her electronic magnifier. This is truly above and beyond what you would expect from an installer. Not only did they show great care and compassion they were neat and clean. I and my grandmother would highly recommend Assurance. read more

Worst customer service I have EVER encountered. Think twice, ahem! 3, 4 may be a million times before calling them. I am stuck because the insurance company will deal with them ... but NEVER shall i go with them ...actually plan on changing the insurance company!! Called and said that "the insurance company has told me that you have a work order for our house". They couldn't find it. So I was willing to give them address, work order number, telephone number... - their response "Its your problem, you call the insurance company". Later on when they realized their mistake ... they were RUDER .... well! we are "busy" ...!!! We have been using a Assurance heating for years for our maintenance and have always been very happy with the work they have done. Recently we had a problem with a gas leak in our laundry room. We called the gas company who fixed the problem but couldn't figure out how the dryer was venting out of the house. We called Asslurance to see if they could help and they discovered that, lbecause of adding an addition 16 years earlier, it was venting into an overhang attic between our 1st and 2nd floor. Definitely a fire hazard! Assurance figured out a way to vent to the outside by going through the basement ceiling and then out of the house. They did a phenomenal job. They were incredibly professional and by the time they left the house you would never have known there had been any construction done. I can see the difference in my dryer now. I would highly recommend this company and from the first time we used them till this last time we used them we have been very impressed with their services. My father had a service company out to his house to find out why his air conditioning didn't work. They told him it needed to be replaced because it had a bad compressor and gave us a price to replace it. I wanted to get a second opinion, so I asked the building management company who they would recommend. They gave me Assurance Heatings phone number. I called and set up an appointment for an estimate, and they came out and looked at the unit and told my dad all it needed was a good cleaning. They took care of it right there and then and the unit has been running great since. It's refreshing to find an honest company. read more

As a professional salesperson, I cannot fathom why a company would make such a promise when they apparently have no commitment to fulfilling it. I live in a condo building. Assurance supplied new a/c units for almost $2,300 to those who requested it. I was one who requested it. This was all newly installed by a kid named Jeff on June 22 of this year. On August 22, it stopped working. I immediately emailed Assurance to come to repair it. They sent out a guy named Alan who is the ONLY reason for 2 extra stars (they really deserve one star). Alan worked about 6 hours that day undoing the crappy job that Jeff did. Turned out that Jeff had cut corners and poor Alan had to almost build again from scratch. Also, I hear through the grapevine that when Alan called the "boss", he was told basically to cut corners too and he refused. What a disgrace!! 2 days later, I run into Alan in my building parking lot. Turned out he was there for someone else with the same damn problem. I am very close to reporting them to the BBB. Kudos to Alan, the world needs more honest, hard-working guys like him. read more
