Looked in furnace cabinet and did a test and said the circuit board was bad. I knew I could buy OEM circuit board for about $80. I asked how much to replace the board he said $761.00. I asked if I could get a discount and that I know the circuit board he could get was under $80 with his discount. He said that was the price. Since it was going to get hot I said ok. He drove to local parts store and came back and installed board in about 10 minutes. BY 9:00 am he was leaving. That means He made almost $700 for an hours work and that includes the travel time. Talked to owner Kraig and asked why so much and he said he has over head and the van they use cost him over $60,000. and there was nothing he could do about the price. That is what they charge for a circuit board replacement. Part and labor is guaranteed for one year. If It breaks I will call them but will not call for anything else in the future. Neighbor came over the next day and said he needs furnace and air conditioner replaced and wanted to know if I knew anyone. I told him I just paid about $700 for one hours work with I guy I used but would not recommend anyone when I just paid about $700 an hours labor. When you gouge you loose and people find out and there goes the business. Place does good work but way overpriced. The part On line was not a used or aftermarket part. It was an OEM replacement part. Where you bought the part at Berkheimer in Arlington hts they sell the part to you for less than what I paid for the item. not 2.5 time that price. Even if part cost $200 you still are making $561.00 for 1 hour of labor which includes the time to travel and get the part. I could argue with you all day but it is not worth it, you overcharge for labor period! All the people that ask me for a referral will know you over charge for labor.

A bad review is the last course of action. In November, they came out as our furnace was not working. The tech almost immediately diagnosed the problem as a cracked heat exchanger. He misquoted the age of our system and recommended replacing it for $13,900. Got a second opinion, who fixed the furnace for $800. The heat exchanger was fine. The problem was the board, which Five Star had replaced a few years back. Do not trust this company. We now wonder if other repairs they have done were overpriced or even necessary. We had been loyal customers for years. No more.

This business was sent by American Home Shield warranty co to inspect my non-working air…read moreconditioner. They determined that the evaporator coil was corroded from normal wear and tear. The technician told me the unit was from 1991 and probably needed to be replaced. I was told i would hear from Nick shortly. After 3 1/2 hours I called and Nick said only the coil was covered by warranty. I would be responsible for $3250 in "non-covered repairs." Apparently the warranty co was only going to pay $531 toward the coil if I took cash in lieu of dealing with Aire Serv and went with a different company. Making extensive repairs to a system that was 35 years old would be ridiculous. They offered to upgrade me to a new air conditioner for $4834, $4983 or $7832. That would be all my expense of course. I have a warranty. apparently a warranty is worth nothing if the company does not honor it. Jessie from Air Serv Palatine called me. He told me they were American Home Shield's #1 company last year. I know why. Jessie kept repeating that they are only following the rules. Even when I read him from the warranty that specifically said that ductwork, plenum and electrical upgrades required for replacement are covered, he said that he has to follow the rules. He kept telling me my complaint was with American Home Shield. He is obviously their agent. He pointed out that everyday he has customers pay for similar repairs to the ones he recommended for me to pay. I complimented him on having such gullible customers.

So yes, had I gone with that company, it would have cost me $2300. Armed with this information, I posted pictures and exactly what the "diagnosis" said and asked for emailed quotes...to be clear I said EMAIL only. I then got no less than 10 phone calls saying "please give us a call so we can talk about your situation. Some called more than once. Lakeland Heating and Cooling (Jason) was nothing like that... $1270 flat rate to replace the water heater. Yes, thats how he replied in his email.. as I requested. He came in.. with the water heater... replaced it... and went on his way. Other companies, that followed directions, also came in higher than $2000. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with Jason and Lakeland! High Quality, Tremendous VALUE
