Mid Oct 2024 they moved my 3ton A/C unit over and further from house making it easier for me to keep clean. It's taken me some time to write this review as I'm still recovering from surgery. Come Spring or Fall I'm planning to renew my maintenance contract. They come out twice a year to check HVAC and clean everything up. Again outstanding Customer Service every one works with you. This company is GREAT! After another company replaced my furnace and messed it up by miss matching the plenum size and furnace I got McHenry to do it. The other furnace was crap and only lasted a year before the blower failed (because of the pressure miss match caused by the plenum mismatch). They replaced the furnace with a good one, AND got it up off the floor like it SHOULD have been. In addition to correcting the plenum, they put a NEW and correct filter housing on it. That doesn't seem like a big thing except the prior company had some dummy install a filter housing with the screws facing IN to the slot where the filter sits making it a real pain to replace. So ya, I definitely recommend them. read more

I have done work with Matt and Mike since they started their business. This includes HVAC and plumbing. The work over the years has consisted of replacing A/C units, replacing entire HVAC systems, adding a second story HVAC system, replacing water heaters, adding a radiant heat floor (not electric), rough and trim plumbing during renovations, swapping tank water heaters for tankless water heaters, and the list goes on. Their work is of the highest quality and fairly priced given their level of service. The equipment they represent is of the highest quality (Trane). Emergency service is always there when needed. This place is great. They are an approved highly rated contractor on the Nicor Gas website. I needed some gas pipes capped, and I knew they would do it right if Nicor Gas recommended them. I talked with Nicole in the McHenry Heating & Air office. She was very patient on the phone and knows the business. She took the time to answer all my questions and book the appt. My technician, KC, arrived right on time for the appointment. He was thorough and did a fantastic job. He explained the process and spent the time making sure to answer all my questions. BUYER BEWARE!!! This company is listed in the northwest suburbs best pick report with a 5 star rating and needs to be removed. I had purchased brand new heater and air conditioner in 2022 - $8000.00 and change. The companies solicitors start calling at the beginning of this year 2024 to ask if I am interested in a "great offer" for a furnace and air conditioner check for the amazing price of $150.00. I was reminded how important the upkeep of the new units are and it's recommended I have someone check. I agree, try and schedule the appointment, and get locked into the chaos of this company scheduling back and forth for months. When I finally get the first appointment was for the heater . I was convinced I needed $660.00 of filters , ( this included the "great offer" fees). I didn't mind as the I felt I was working with the best and the service men were great. Since it was April, the service men said it was too early for an efficient air conditioning check- I was not aware they weren't checking both. Now comes scheduling for the air conditioner check. I went back and forth on the phone for a reasonable appointment where I didn't have to take an entire day off of work with a 6 hour window of 800a - 200p. Only after getting upset with the company and explaining a open schedule is not a option, I had a committed date - 2 MONTHE OUT- at 1000a. I received a called at 730am on the day of the appointment saying due to many emergency's because of current heat, they are now going to have to push this appointment at earliest next Friday in two different time slots. I told the woman on the phone, I had to fight get an appointment with a committed time and this way of doing business is unacceptable. I realized my appointment isn't as profitable as new air conditioning units, and although I have taken a 2 1/2 day off of work and paid this money back in April.... NOT WORTH IT! I have calling northwest suburbs and reporting this incident. read more

Our air conditioner stopped working. They came out and found mice had chewed the wiring. Told us air conditioner itself was fine. Could have tried to replace it as it is very old but honestly told us no need to yet. Very nice and polite company including lady who answered the phone. Well done McHenry Heating!! We appreciate all of your employees, but especially how much Josh went above and beyond with the install, his communication, and his willingness to explain anything we asked. We've been using MH&A for at least 10 years. They've been great. Responsive, diligent and friendly. Most people don't know, they do plumbing too. Quick to respond when I was across the pond waking to a 3am call for a burst pipe when the Misses could not find the water shut off valve (dig at wife for good measure)! Put Air and Heating ducks in parents attic . Half of our suitcases and belongings are stuck in part of our attack that we can't get to. Never asked us to get them out before installing! Left pieces of metal and wall all over in attic. Left my parents with no heat in the winter for 2 days!!!!! After they were done we could not believe the mess they left! Very unethical. read more

I had these guys come out to fix a capacitor on my air conditioner. They charged me $250 for the part, plus the technicians time. I asked if the part was really that much and was assured it was. After he left, I looked up the part and I could buy it for $25. I called the main office to complain, and they tried to tell me that it was the cost for having it available. 1000 percent markup. What a bunch of crooks!!! Losing faith in people when they take advantage like that. read more

Very pleased with their service! We had been without hot water for 3 days. We originally had Ace Heating & Cooling come out, BIG mistake! After waiting a day to come out then wasting two days for them to get parts and still couldn't fix it. I called McHenry Heating and Air, it was quick and easy. They offered to send someone out the same day. The technician Butch was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was able to get it running in 10 minutes and even gave us tips on how to prevent the problem in the future. So happy I called them!! read more

McHenry Heating was out after normal business hours, being so, I was charged time and a half, $160.00 for the first hour. I understand that, but what I don't understand is being charged $390.00 on top of that for a $26.00 igniter that took him 15 minutes to replace. I can buy the EXACT part that they installed, online for $26.00. They told me the part was special order and specific to my furnace and they just happened to have one on the truck from a previously cancelled order. Lucky me! Being charged 15 times what I can buy the part for is ROBBERY! My back was against the wall, I had no heat and they knew it. McHenry Heating & Air Conditioning SAVED us this past weekend! We were out of town for a few days and returned home to a 45 degree house- the furnace pilot light had gone out. After researching and trying to fix it on our own, we decided to bite the bullet and call a technician. McHenry Heating & Air was at our house within the hour, the technician was very nice and he had the part in his truck and fixed our furnace within 30 minutes. It was $160 for the visit since it was a Sunday at 9pm and then an additional $250 for the fried wire. It was a big chunk of change but we knew we would never be able to fix the furnace ourselves and on a night when it was negative degrees windchill- we happily paid the price to have a warm home! read more

This company is one of very few that have restored my faith in great customer service and business acumen! I have lived in a townhouse community for over 15 years with a very complicated heating system. When switching from air conditioning to heat, my brain froze and I forgot how to do it. Since I have seen their company trucks around several times, I guessed that they were familiar with the system so I called for a service appointment even though I was kicking myself for my stupidity for having to spend the money. Called for Heating Tune-Up service. Paid $109. McHenry Heating tech came to service the furnace and informed me that Inducer needs to be replaced for $500 then use a small flashlight to check the hole of the furnace and informed that he has to stop and not complete the service. McHenry Heating tech use scare tactics and intimidation and very force full that I replace my furnace ASAP. Even though McHenry Tech did not complete the tune up and left my furnace at a messy situation, they charge me $109. Extremely Poor Customer Service, Unprofessional, put the customer at a vulnerable spot and big time rip off. With this treatment they lost my business and i end up selecting ARS Rooting Company where i purchase a complete package of Furnace and Air Condition. McHenry Heating, my advice don't let your technician treat customer this way. Your company will loss business. read more

We used them for a new heating and air system in March. They not only were the best priced for the units we wanted but they were really professional. The install was fast, clean and I felt comfortable having them in my home. They explained the system and its operations completely. It is now the hottest June and July on record. Great customer service! Called them because our furnace blew up. They were at the house to give us an estimate within an hour. Derek made a couple of phone calls and within another hour we had one guy here tearing out the old furnace, while another guy was on his way with the new one. Our furnace went out on one of the coldest days of 2016. McHenry Heating and Air came out same day. We were hoping for for only a repair as we planned to replace both the aging furnace and AC unit in the spring. But we were not so lucky. We needed a full replacement. They were able to to schedule the emergency installation the very next day and had a three man crew working most of the day to tear out and install the new unit. Our crawl space is also probably the most difficult crawl space to work in and the crew worked through every obstacle. I am very pleased with all of the work done and would recommend these guys. Since we also need a new condenser, they will come back in the spring and finish the work for the AC. read more

On Sunday, December 18th, 2016, I came home to find my house at 40 degrees. I called a friend and he came over and check the furnace. He said the fan was not working, and I would need a motor. I called McHenry Heating. They came, however, they said they would charge for a diagnostic, even though we knew the problem. I agreed. They said they had too for "legal purposes." They replaced the motor. The diagnostic was $160, and the motor and labor was $616.00. They were at my house for 40 minutes, which was a total of $776.00. The next day, I had a maintenance team at work look over this bill. They were shocked at the cost. I called the company, and ask for a breakdown of the labor and the part. They refused. The only person, that I have spoken with is a "clerk" name Michele. She said that is how the company writes up their bills, and that there is no way to have a break down. If I buy a heating unit from them, they will perhaps discount the unit. I feel like this company, gouges/overcharges customers. Also, they will not send you a breakdown of their charges. read more
