I can't help but stop here EVERY time I come to the mall! I love getting multiple flavors and I've never tried one I dislike. The gelato is so light and refreshing. I like how it's always the same people working there, one of the guys is really funny and always gives me a generous scoop. It's definitely a better deal to order a larger size and get almost double the amount though.

This is probably the only gelato place in West Farms mall. Prices are reasonable. I went with 3 flavors. Coconut was my favorite. Coffee and Brownie flavors were ok. Overall there was nothing special about this place. When roaming in the mall, a good place to stop by and have a gelato.

    Getting my gelato on!

Jane and her crew are still on point after all these years! Great quality gelato with the most friendly service!

A case of gelato and a couple of smoothies.

While the pastries are classic and exactly what you'd expect from a high-caliber Italian bakery, the real gem is the Italian ice located in the cafe. Good lord, the flavors and quality are on a different level--this isn't that Rita's or DQ garbage. The chocolate and strawberry combination is specifically incredible, honestly better than Godiva chocolate-covered strawberries. It provides that deep, rich profile and authentic taste that defines their Itallian vibe. One professional tip for anyone stopping by: bring cash. The cafe doesn't accept cards, and you don't want to be the one standing there empty-handed when you're that close to the best Italian ice on the planet

Not a bad thing, just how it was. Stopped into the Plainville location yesterday because I was there and it was there. Have not been a big fan of expansion as in the New Haven pizza world, quality and consistency has suffered. That was my fear with Mozzicatto. However, as they are one of the few who make a ricotta pasticiotti, so I go. I bought 3 of the ricotta and a ricotta square (noticing a pattern here?) which were delicious and were as good as they were 25 years ago. They were fresh, form and the filling was delicately sweet. While I can't speak for all the desserts, they still seem to know what they are doing. It's not easy maintaining this type of specialty business as the market of patrons and tastes is a bit different. IMO, they remain a gem and I am thankful the kids have endeavored to stay true to what brought them success. It is pricy compared to the crap you can buy at the supermarket/Costco? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. I will not pass Mozzicato's without stopping. You shouldn't either. Salute!

From an early age, DiMauro had a passion for baking. In 2000, he graduated first in his class from Johnson & Wales University and received the Edward D. Fuller Award. Afterwards, DiMauro spent several years working in the hospitality industry: from hotels and resorts to restaurants, confectioneries and bakeries. In 2007, he saw the need for healthy frozen desserts since there are very few places outside New York City that had authentic Italian Ices. That same year, he launched his own Italian Ice brand where he produced authentic small-batch Italian Ice crafted from fresh, high-quality ingredients. All flavors are fat, dairy and cholesterol free. In addition to classic Italian Ice flavors, DiMauro also crafts specialty flavors such as Lemon-Basil or Pear-Cardamom. The signature Chet's Italian Ice pushcarts can be found at various festivals and farmer's markets throughout Connecticut, as well as private events such as weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs or fundraisers. My family and I recently sampled some of Chet's Italian Ice when we were attended a "Touch-a-Truck" event in Madison. After eating a pizza from another food truck that was there, Italian Ice sounded like a nice option for dessert. My wife had previously seen a Chet's pushcart at the Wallingford Garden Market. Customers are allowed to combine flavors, so my wife and sons all had "Watermelon" combined with "Blue Raspberry" , and I had "Lemon" (made w/ Meyer lemons) combined with "Chocolate Fudge" (made w/ premium French chocolate). Of my choice, DiMauro remarked, "That's a classic flavor combo!" I told him that I love to pair lemon with chocolate because it reminds me of chocolate lemon pie: a specialty at New Haven-area Italian bakeries. We were all very happy with our choices. We hope that we run into Chet's Italian Ice again because it was exceptionally delicious!

They offered four varieties of Italian ice today, and as a bonus, also had a batch of blueberry ice cream available. We had a very nice conversation with Concetta, the Chet's rep at the booth, and she said we could mix and match flavors any way we wanted because "there are no rules here". We walked on the Wild Side and mixed coconut ice with the blueberry ice cream, and the result was incredible. We loved the whole frozen blueberries inside their ice cream. What a great frozen treat on a very hot day. Chet's never disappoints.

As far as I can tell, anyway. All of their competitors are: Nero, Hartford Baking Co, Starbucks, Bruegger's, Dunkin'..... In 2026, I don't think this is optional. Notice how many Super Bowl ads were Uber Eats, GrubHub, and DoorDash? They must be doing pretty well if they can afford Super Bowl ads. Maybe places don't like the lower margins, but isn't that better than no sale at all? Plus it becomes an advertisement for your place. For many lazy people like myself, if you're working from home, you don't want to get up earlier to trudge out in the cold and snow. But if you can just tap your phone and get it delivered in 20 minutes....... Do it, guys. It might be your only hope.
