I went bowling with my son and daughter. The place is very old and outdated. Management is very rude and doesn't care one or the other for the satisfaction of his customers. This place is a local spot for bowling only! There's no food to order Ann's you can't bring outside foods in! I went there on the 9/14 at night... warm beer and I had to beg for a cup of ice! The drinks are pricey. We didn't care to eat cause we ate before we came so I wasn't aware that food was not available. Fast forward to this weekend. Yesterday 10/4, one of my good girlfriends had a kids party for her 4 year old... guess what??! Nnnoo food, didn't want to give them drinks, and they didn't begin bowling until an hour and 15 minutes later!! One of my friends asked for pitchers of water for then and the guy at the register told her.."Not now" after the kids had been there for close thi two hours! You have a bunch of babies and kids in the building and you provide anything, plus the vending machines stole money!! ! If you go there, just bowl... enjoy that cause everything else...BYE!! i am giving gun post lanes 3 stars for being a part of my youth where my friends and i would go and bowl a bunch of games on a friday or saturday night for fun . while being raised in the bronx this was the bowling alley all the locals would go and hang out at. it was walking distance from our hood and it was during our youth and we were still to young to drive . the place was always kinda dumpy but in a old school way from the two sided lanes on the main floor and the upper level which we preferred as we could act up in a foolish harmless way. we were to young to sit at the bar lounge area to booze up but the snack bar had some good pretzels and the soda was always cold. i stopped by gun post lanes recently after almost a lapse of 30 years and for the most part it looks the same except for the auto scoreing machines and a few interior upgrades . they have a bunch of package deals for 3 hours of bowling which includes bowling shoes and some deals include pizza, etc, but if you are only going 2 bowl 2 games or less then its not really worth .i had fun during my visit with my friends who also felt the same and yes we did shed a few tears cause it brings back many memories of our youth hanging out and having careless , harmless fun while being kids from the bronx. read more

We had THE WORST experience at this place. I am only writing this review to warn other people who are planning to come and have fun here - your party will be ruined and you will leave in tears. Not even ten minutes since our walking in I felt the most miserable person. We were talked to like we were second class citizens not worthy to be treated like humans. The reason why I didn't leave right away was because we already had 20 ppl on our RSVP list and I could not cancel it 5 min prior to the event. I had a party of 20+ ppl. The owner/manager (he's also a waiter, cashier and a cleaning person, and he is the one who distributes the shoes) greeted us with a phrase: "Only when you have all ppl here you will start bowling". So we were only allowed to stand by the door and wait for all people to arrive - he didn't let us sit at the tables. We asked to be placed on the empty side of the alley to which he rudely replied that the side I requested was for the League only which, obviously, we didn't belong to. He proceeded on stuffing our big party to the side that already had a smaller party bowling. Our big party was given two tables and these tables were not next to each other (unlike the tables on the side of the alley that was empty). When I showed my surprise he kept repeating this phrase: "I will do it MY way, cause if I do it your way it will be all messed up." Repeatedly he kept laughing in a nasty manner at my simple suggestion to open a tab and keep my credit card (I didn't know they were cash only). So when the latecomers were pouring in I had to run up to him and pay him right away so that they could bowl. They did not have a birthday candle which I think is ironic because if you read other reviews their only customers are birthday party gus/girls that didn't have enough time to open Yelp reviews about this place. He suggested I run out to the 99c store across the street and buy a pack. The best part about the cake cutting was me having to beg for the knife. The shoe boy/manager/pizza chef/cleaning lady told me that he doesn't like to give the knives because people don't know how to operate them. Straightforward miserable asshole who doesn't feel wrong for making you feel embarrassed in front of many guests. Service: Rude, condescending, zero social skills The setting: Filthy, dirty and I tried to look away from the food counter not see any further The bowling: The balls kept stucking in The food: So called fruit punch left red marks that wouldn't come off skin for hours I am very sorry that we ever crossed the threshold of this likely most horrendous business in the entire NYC. We went to bowl here this afternoon for happy hour. My friend called ahead to see if they had a bar and open bowling. When the owner confirmed both on the phone, we planned to bowl over a beer. We arrived at 4:45. The place was crawling with high school students who were in a league. There were many signs posted everywhere about the "rules." We paid for a game (all cash because it is cash only). Then we were told there would be no snacks and no alcohol until the students left. When I asked how long that would be, the owner wouldn't say anything except "when they are done they will leave." We decided to leave after ten minutes and NEVER bowling. We asked for our money back. He called me "sweetheart" several times and asked me to read the signs about "no refunds." I told him we were not seeking a refund since we did not bowl. He screamed at me that I wanted him to break the law and serve us alcohol. I stayed calm and told him we just wanted the money that he JUST put in the register. He still refused and called me sweetheart. When I asked him to please stop yelling (he was) and to stop calling me sweetheart (he didn't) .. He became even more belligerent. We left. He took our money... This also explains cash only.... Credit card companies advocate for their customers when businesses are rude or corrupt. This place is horrible. I was chaperoning a school trip with 21 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th special education student. I had inquired about food and they stated they only had pizza. They also stated that McDonald's was right across the street so I could get food for myself and eat with my student. That's exactly what I did. Upon my return I was told by a staff member, I'm not allowed to bring in outside food, that the Health Department had come in and gave the place a load of fines. I explained that I was the only one and that I was told it was OK. 2 minutes later the poor excuse of an owner came out and told one of our parents, saying that no one told us to bring outside food and that we better clean up our mess. She told him she did not appreciate the way he was speaking to her and that our kids will leave the place clean. He then proceeded to yell at all of us about cleaning up our mess and not leaving the place dirty. At this point our kids were already done and waiting patiently for the few other students to finish up. We told this nasty, rude, and genuinely miserable old man that we would be leaving his establishment clean but he proceeded to yell. We upheld our standards as teachers, we cleaned up and got our students out of there. The ratings for this place and it's employees are not surprising after our encounter with the owner. The place is in need of new equipment as the ball kept getting stuck and half the time pins were missing from a game. This place has lost our business and that of our fellow colleagues who will be urged not to go here. Steer clear of this place. I hope that this bitter man controls himself next time before lashing out at a bunch of children for fabrications his mind has produced. read more

Decided to come here for my sons 10th bday ..... Boy oh boy do u get what u paid for. I was actually told by the owner "no one who works here knows any info so u have the wrong information". My local bowling alley...only a few block away from me so it's convenient. Don't let the outside fool you. I know it needs a paint job outside, but the inside is nice. It's a beneficial place to spend your time and have some fun - nice for kids and groups. They have pool tables, so that you can enjoy a nice pool game with some friends or other people. It has two sides to play bowling. It is never packed when I go here, so I would expect the same if you go here. You are not expected to spend much here. Prices are low and beneficial if you are on a strict budget. It is definitely worth going to. read more

We had a terrible experience! I have never felt so compelled to write something negative about a business before this. We took our special needs students on a summer field trip to this bowling alley. The man behind the desk would not let the students enter until we paid. Even after I expressed they cannot be exposed to heat, he still refused. When the reservations were made over a month in advance, we were told we can order additional pizza for the kids. When we arrived he said we couldn't. The pizza they "ordered" was cold to the touch and looked as though it came out of a refrigerator. At exactly the 1 hour mark they shut all the screens and lanes on the kids, literally mid bowl. I DO NOT recommend this place at all. My class went there today on a school trip and the staff was very mean and rude to the teachers and to the students. When we first arrived the worker ask for only the teachers come in first to pay while other staff and students wait outside. They were aware that the students were under the autism spectrum. They had no remorse and insisted they wait outside. When transactions were done they made 2 classes play in one lane knowing that these students have trouble waiting. So basically we paid 70 dollars for 1 lane for 1 hour. Service was poor and on top of all that they were very unprofessional. read more

I made a reservation to bring a group of students. The man on the phone asked me to come early. I arrived 15 minutes before my reservation. Then we proceeded to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes before we began bowling. Once we started bowling, we had constant problems with the bowling balls getting stuck. This guy then told us that 14 students had to share 4 bowling balls amongst 2 lanes and alternate the use of each lane. Really?! Apparently, this bowling alley's ball return equipment isn't capable of handling too much work. Pay the extra money. Find somewhere else to bowl. read more

Pricing is similar to other places yet the quality is terrible. The balls do not come back half the time and the game screen crashed on us multiple times. When we asked for a refund for just our last game after waiting for so long for them to fix the lane, the employee made a rude comment and just walked away from us. It's large enough to accomodate many people. It still has old equipment. Although they are making some monitor changes. On a Sat. evening the young teens get real rowdy and excessive with their cussing. Families would be advised to go earlier. It would help if more people smiled or were more pleasant doing thier jobs. It seems city people are very stressed 24/7. Or they think the mean stare works for them. O well! We three enjoyed each other and had to get my 11 yr old son to ignore the teens. Really ZERO stars! Attended a birthday party for a 4 yr old on Saturday, 10/05/19 -- HORRIBLE! We were told to get there early but they weren't ready. They allowed others to bowl in area selected for the party. When asked can another area be used, told no. Had to wait an hour to get party started. This place doesn't serve food! A party can be planned but no food? Has a bunch of vending machine but the soda is way over priced & the machines DON'T work! It's cash only but the change machine DOESN'T work. Put in $1, get back 75¢. Go to counter to get reimbursed, get $1 bill -- BUT I NEED CHANGE!!! Ask for singles, told they don't have any. SMH! No one in the bar to serve you. Can't bring food in meanwhile McDonald's is directly across the street, taunting you. I asked for some water for the kids because they were hungry & thirsty (remember, party is an hour behind), & was told "not now". No explanation. Meanwhile I was told to ask a certain gentleman in particular because he's the "nicer one". People who didn't know they couldn't bring food in were told to take it out, so we had kids sitting on the dirty floor in the foyer to eat their McDonald's. Finally some pitchers of juice were brought out (about 20 mins after I asked for water) & they were going to charge $48 because it was given before they were ready to serve pizza. SERIOUSLY?! I wanted to like this place but the owner was unfriendly from the minute we walked in the door. He literally yelled across the room at me for walking past the counter to have a look around. As well, the guy beside us on the lanes had a terrible attitude. He arrived after us, took the ball I was using and said it was his regular bowling ball (I had gone and found it on the rack, it was a light one, which I need for my wrist), and refused to let me continue to use it. I had to go search for another. Since when does a guy use an 8lb ball? We felt VERY unwelcome here. It's too bad. Listen to everyone who is commenting. I've experience most of the things people posted. The guy is rude! The front desk lady was nice but the guy, don't know his name. We called him "black demon", because his shirt was black, I believe his ethnicity is Italian. Beside the point! The lanes are messed up and when I went to notify him about it, he goes "it's not messed up" I'm like dude, It is how are you going to tell us without looking? Then, they leave the female bathroom open, I'm like hello, the bathroom door is open, (huge garbage bin is holding it open" people walking past can see! Y'all know people can see through the cracks, he sarcastically asks "you can't close it"? I'm not touching the garbage bin, it shouldn't have been open in the first place!!! Over all the pizza sucks! Instead, he had a bad attitude and acted like he was annoyed to have to deal with us. The owner made our students wait outside in the heat, on a busy street, while we paid for the students. We were not told ahead of time that they did not take cash and told us to go to the deli across the street to go to an ATM. For $10, the kids bowled for one hour (exactly), as they turned off the screens before they finished and were given cold, clearly a day old pizza. The pizza slices were small. The cheese was solid. You could tell the pizza was stored in a refrigerator and barely reheated for us. One pie was completely cold. We were told we would be able to order more pizza once we got there; this was not an option as the owner told us he already ordered the pizza. This place was the worst, their were only 2 people helping out on the floor. They would leave the floor with a ton of people in need of their help. I had a party of 15 we had 3 lanes. Once the balls went down they never came back up even when we hit the reset button. No one was on the floor so we had to wait before we could play again. This went on for the whole 3hrs there .The music was off when we asked about that ,we were told it wouldn't be on until 1am it was then 8:00 pm. I come here yearly for my little brother's birthday because he loves bowling. We usually come on a saturday in the early evening. Usually around that time you will see alot of families and birthday parties going on and I love how at that time it's not super crowded. I've been here late at night and it usually gets crowded with young rowdy teenagers. My advice is that if you want to go so you can enjoy yourself and you are not on top of other people bowling, especially if you want to be surrounded by an atmosphere thats family oriented, then come early. I would say before 9pm. After a certain time the lights on the lanes dim and it looks somewhat like a disco ball. The music at this time is not too high making it ok to have a conversation where you can hear what the other person is saying. Most of the shoes are in decent shape and there's always enough balls to choose from to bowl. I love how they have the metal rack where you can slide down the ball for young children to give them a head start. Overall my experiences here have been ok and my family and I wouldn't come back year after year if we weren't satisfied with this bowling ally read more

Gun Post Lanes was a terrific place to bowl the last time I was there, which was maybe 30 years ago. Not any more. We went there yesterday, a party of six people, and asked for two lanes. The place was practically empty, and you'd think they'd give us a pair of lanes, sharing the same ball return, but no. Instead of giving us lanes 9 and 10, which are a natural pair, they gave us 10 and 11. One of the seats in the settee area for lane 11 was loose, and when I sat on it, it pitched forward, almost dumping me onto the floor. When I threw my first ball, it make a left turn as soon as it hit the lane. It was like the lanes hadn't been oiled in weeks. The casual bowler using a house ball wouldn't care about that, but anyone who really knows how to bowl would. $8 a game to bowl on totally unplayable conditions. Lane 11 broke down after one frame, so we got moved from 11 to 9. It took a breakdown for us to get a natural pair of lanes. Usually, there are 20 pins (two full sets) in each lane, so that when a bowler finishes a frame, the other set of pins is in the pinsetter, ready to come down. Not here. After each frame, we had to wait for some of the pins we just bowled against to cycle up into the machine so a full set of ten could be reset. And if you need to use the men's room, maybe you ought to wait until you get home. The men's room smelled like a skunk had exploded in there, and after I washed my hands, I found that the electric hand dryer didn't work, and there were no paper towels. I dried my hands on toilet paper. I'll go back there when hell freezes over. Actually, no, not even then. read more

wish i had read the reviews before taking an hour commute to this terrible place.first of all the bar was dirty. the bartender didn't know how to make drinks like margaritas only knew how to mix liquor and soda. a little dirty shot glass was being used to measure the liquor that goes into every drink i saw being made.
