I was looking for a specific electronic drum set for our family's church and this is the only location that had it in stock. I made the 2.5 hour drive and when I started chatting with the guys, they recommended a different set that was a good alternative. It had more features and wasn't flimsy, like the set I originally wanted, plus it was on sale!When I went to check out, the sale had ended BUT staff still honored the sale as a courtesy to me. He ended up throwing in a free throne seat with the purchase of a 24 month warranty. I had the privilege of speaking with three different employees, plus the manager Mike, and the kindness and professionalism was superior! As a female who knows NOTHING about instruments, I was a little nervous going in and being sold overpriced items due to my lack of knowledge. However, I was SO wrong to be worried! Mike even found out I was scammed out of a $100 gift card and decided to honor that discount anyways. I would happily drive back to Waco from the Tyler area to purchase from these guys again! Only giving them 1 star because Yelp doesn't allow 0. I went in to see about getting a very expensive vintage guitar set up only to have the repairman belittle me and act as if I was inconveniencing him by asking a simple question. I walked out and will never return to this location. read more

First time shopping there and ya.. I didn't get the guy's name and the receipt didn't have his name just the cashier's number. I already knew what I wanted to purchase but I wanted to see how customer service is so I tried to see how they would assist me on the item but immediately turned away and said I got something better to do let me know when you're ready. Alright, fool glad your life isn't as perfect as you wanted it to be. If there for a paycheck then you shouldn't be there. There are music lovers trying to express their passion for music. This is a review of the customer service NOT the singing lessons, my father fully enjoyed his lessons. My father did tell them NOT to renew the lessons in the store that day, but they did anyway. This review is to warn potential singing lesson students that when you sign up you are signing up for auto renewal. This means that every 3 (?) months you get charged for more lessons. This is apparently in the fine print which I totally missed. READ THE FINE PRINT. SO OF COURSE, when this hit, I didn't have enough money in that account to cover it and my bills and was charged NSF for the bills that I then was unable to pay. This has completely put me behind as I live paycheck to, day after paycheck. The real problem is I called IMMIDIATELY and told them I didn't want to renew and needed the charged refunded. NOTHING... called again two weeks later.... NOTHING... now I am having to call a third time to get the charged reversed and it has been a full 30 days since my first call... To say I am angry is an understatement. read more

I called to see if I could simply get strings put on a bass and was met by a friendly voice that said, "Why, yes! No appointment needed." So I drove for an hour to go specifically to the repair department of Guitar Center. Upon my arrival, I was shown to the repair desk. I walked up to the desk where a dreadfully dressed and coiffed individual sat taking a pick guard off at the speed of smell. I stood there for a while and finally I got kind of tired of just breathing and collecting dust without even so much as a, "hello," or "just one moment, please." When I asked if I was in the right place, I was informed rudely that he was "working on this right now," very smugly and without even looking me in the eye. He acted as if I was bothering him by simply standing there. Therefore, I picked up my bass and hit the bricks. I don't drive for an hour to be treated like common rabble. If I wanted to be treated as such, I'd just stay home. Ergo, I shall not darken the door of this establishment again. I have always purchased goods and services here as I am a professional musician. Usually, Guitar Center is an excellent resource. But no longer. read more

Pat Kelly is the best guitar teacher ever. The course of the lesson follows the student's natural curiosity. 100% magic of discovery, zero percent boring lecture. He just draws the excitement out of you. He's a natural teacher -- and a genuinely nice guy. It doesn't hurt that he sounds just like Jeff Bridges (the Dude). Also, the guy is huge. He's like this really gentle seven foot tall bear. (Also, Patrick Kelly holds a Masters in classical guitar and teaches on the faculties of both Baylor and McLennan Community College. Husband went in to purchase a guitar. The associate initially showed him the model he was interested in then left to wait on another customer and bever came back. The guitar had several chips in it and he wanted to find out about ordering one that wasn't damaged. He also wanted to look at a guitar from the top rack before he made a final decision. I told the associate he was going to purchase a guitar and was assured the associate would help shortly. He never came back nor did any other associate ask if we needed help. The purchase would have been $900 - $1300 or higher fender guitar. We left the store and purchased the guitar elsewhere. They were busy but not swamped. There were associates standing around near the check out area not waiting on customers. We have shopped at Guitar Center in the past with better customer service. read more

In general, not a bad Guitar Center. However, if you're expecting a somewhat decent experience with the guitar technician, think again. You will be judged for bringing your guitar in to be restrung. I have a time-sensitive schedule and was hoping to do this just out of convenience given that I normally do it myself. Clearly pretentious, short-tempered, and sour; avoid having this man touch any of your instruments at any cost. read more

So there I was one rainy Texas morning, guitar destroyed from a cross country tour that mirrored the savagery of the rain and winds blazing under those dark grey clouds. I was in deep despair, wondering if my six stringed baby would ever see the light of the stage again. I brought her into Guitar Center, hoping, praying, something could be done so I wouldnt be stuck playing my bandmates spare guitar like the night before in Austin. That dark moment playing out in front of a super skeptical audience that would make Dimebag Darrel sweat on the brow. Its Austin, you dont f-around with your guitar playing in Austin, or anywhere in Texas, really. This is a scientific fact. A universal truth. But alas, there I was, playing someone elses guitar as mine laid dead in the case. It was brutal, unforgiving, I barely survived. So yes, on that cold and wet morning, carrying the case/coffin/body bag of my beloved guitar into the Guitar Center. My head pointed downwards, staring at the rain drops hitting the pavement of the sidewalk that lead towards the doors of hope. And thats when I met Nate. The man, the myth, the legend. He immediately took one look at my guitar, picked it up, asked a couple questions, opened her up, and with the skill of a mad mad genius, surgically fixed her back to life within minutes to where she now sings and soars better than ever before. Each note a brilliant cry of joy and revival praising the Gods. My heart, my soul, my whole life was revitalized. A body-wide surge of "YEES!!' in every part of my consciousness. Nate had saved my baby, effortlessly. That day we continued through the storm into Dallas and there on the stage that rainy night, my guitar and I were reunited in a whirlwind of ecstatic ecstasy of being at one with another once again. How sweet the applause was, knowing Nate had saved my life from a performance that otherwise would have truly been "Awkward The Musical". Nate, you're a hero, genius, lifesaver, brilliant mastermind. Thank you. Guitar Center Gods, with Nate you have proved your decision of choosing only the worlds best to repair guitars, saving the lives of thousands of musicians like me. To Nate and the other employees of the store, I trust the clouds will clear soon where you all will find yourselves in a world of big open Texas skies, true and blue. Went to have my Strat worked on, new SD Pickups, a new Tusq Nut and a new pick guard. As I was looking for another Acoustic Electric for my Granddaughter, the guys were working on my Strat, trying to get the nut out, broke my neck in the process. They did not realize that the owner before myself, had super glued it in place....BIG NO-NO in our world. SO......after talking it over, they called another store, I think in Michigan, and got me a new Fender neck, at no cost. They went above and beyond trying to help me with the repair of the broken neck. Was not their fault some "Nut" excuse the pun, super glued in the Nut. So about 8 days from now, I should have my Strat back, all bright & shiny, with two new Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbuckers installed, a new pick guard and a new neck with that Tusq Nut installed properly. Thanks for helping an old Marine with the guitars he will be passing down to his Granddaughter......in time, and providing such great service and knowledgeable help. I think I need another Acoustic Electric, so my Granddaughter & I can play together and she can learn as we play. Any ideas? Thanks guy's, Take care of my Strat.....please!! read more

Our sales person(dude) was rude. We were pretty new to knowing what we wanted and might need for having our first guitar, and the sales person made sure to make it obvious that we were annoying him and that he thought we were idiots. After all if it, We got our guitar and got checked out by another person who was a lot more helpful, and ten times less rude. One thing that surprised me is that both men saw the guitar strap I picked out and said nothing when it turned out to be a banjo strap. Thanks guys. When I brought it back in the only woman working in the store was quick to recognize and helped us find the correct one. read more

I bought a Schecter Omen Extreme 4 bass recently, to my disappointment it had a bum neck and bridge. So I went back up to get it fixed and they said it would be $50. ($50 for damages that aren't my fault even though I have a 36 month warranty). They then brought up a repair plan, I gave them my phone number and name and they found my purchase. They printed out the receipt and proved that I was who bought it. They then said they couldn't have it replaced because they needed the original debit card I used to buy it. (Unmentioned was the 1 hour wait I had to get helped by people who weren't even helping anyone else) (This is also the third new guitar I've boughten from guitar center that have been damaged and needed to be shipped out) read more

I often wonder how long Waco is going to be lucky enough to have this place. I'm not normally a big cheerleader for corporate retail chains, but this little store has somehow managed to hold onto a good staff of quality people for longer than most stores hold onto employees. They'll let you know when they do and don't know stuff. I've never felt any weird sales pressure, and their guitar tech (Nate) is both knowledgeable and cool. read more

I purchased a Fender Blues Deluxe amp. I brought it in to get it repaired. I was told GC didn't have anyone to repair amps. I was told it was between me and Fender. I was offered no assistance in the matter. I tend to think that if you purchase something somewhere it is their obligation to help you when you have a problem with merchandise you purchased from them. I will never grace the doors of any GC store again. As far as I am concerned, their customer service rates a ZERO! read more

I went to the Waco Texas store asking for a trade in value on my Cordoba GK studio guitar. The manager told me he would give me $150 and sale it for $250. He told me this price is based on lowest price he found on ebay. I asked if this was apples to apples, he told me it did not matter. I showed him the current guitar center used price for this same guitar. He stated that the GC site was most likely outdated. I told him it made no sense that they would sale this guitar in his store for $250 when all other guitar centers, about 7 around the US priced this used for around $450. I think this is a con job! read more
