Great Guitar Center store--it's my go to for drums and related equipment. Good prices and sales. I've also bought guitars here. My only suggestion would be for them to offer more high end acoustic guitars so I can try them before buying. Definitely a great music store and everyone is super helpful! read more

*service review* Went to get kids guitar re-string service. I had tried to tune it myself and broke the string, oops. Friendly staff welcomed me and directed me to the service area on the left. System was down so they weren't sure if they could do in one day or tomorrow but they called later and it was done. Super speedy! The store was clean & organized, seemed like they had lots of instrument options and a couple rooms to try them out. Unfortunately, they were too advanced for the intended giftee so today I tried to return the books BUT they would not do a return --even though the books themselves were in pristine, as-new condition. Went to trade my acoustic guitar for something else if the deal was right. The guy took it out of the case and strummed it, and I had forgotten I had tuned it a half step down and had tuned both E strings down to a D. I tried to explain this to him, but he completely ignored me, slapped a Snark tuner on the headstock and tried tuning to E standard, with the most confused look on his face, despite what I had just told him. It was clear he didn't listen to anything I had said. He said the guitar had tuning issues. I was like "no, you're just tuning it wrong." He said the action was too low and there was buzzing through the neck. Yeah, no kidding. It's a 45 year old guitar that hasn't been set up in a few years. He didn't even make me an offer on it, just completely passed on it. I said whatever, and briefly went to the acoustic room with my guitar in the case. While in there, I decided that with how rudely I was treated at the guitar counter, that I didn't want to even entertain trying any of their guitars out, nevermind buying one. On the way out, one of their employees who was present when I was at the guitar desk asked me (quite rudely) to open my guitar case, as if what? I was stealing something? Now I understand they have to check cases on the way out, but I didn't appreciate the insinuation and tone. Secondly, who would be stupid enough to try and steal from guitar center? There's cameras everywhere. I've never felt more offended in my life. As a now FORMER customer (and employee at one time! Don't even get me started on that experience. They treat their employees like trash), I'll never set foot in that store again. read more

I have gone to the Natick store for years. I went in this weekend for the first time in a year. The guy that greeted me was an arrogant jerk that offered nothing that was true. A true poser that hates customers. He told me that there was only one shop in Ma that does repairs and it was some place in Watertown. I found a shop with in one Mike that was courteous, helpful and Knowledgeable. I have spent thousands in Guitar Center but never again. Bummer but I am glad they forced me to go elsewhere. read more

I have bought alot of gear from guitar center and I can honestly say that will not be happening anymore. Every guitar center I've gone to in the last couple of years has been a complete joke. They will sell you a guitar for $1100 and then offer you a $300 dollar trade in on the same guitar the next day. Their scratch and dent guitars are ridiculous in price. Fender american strat with a smashed headstock will still run you $999. Nobody at guitar center has any knowledge of their product and a poor attitude to boot. I went to north Attleboro and also Braintree guitar center today and left very dissapointed and insulted. Just be aware, depending on which employee you're dealing with, if you go to trade in a guitar they might just make up a bunch of BS to justify a lowball offer. example: "the action on this guitar is pretty high". This location is a hit or miss. I will say it's better than the North Attleboro location but not by far. With that said, many of the employees are uneducated about gear. I came to sell a guitar and I was helped by a big bald dude and he was just rude and arrogant. Like he was big boss. More like a big baby with a binky in his mouth! I opened the case and he didn't even look at it just said they wouldn't take it, I mean what the hell even was that? I went and sold it to a local store instead where they appreciated my business. Now they usually have a decent assortment of guitars "new" and used. Sometimes decent amps. Like someone had mentioned, try them out here and buy elsewhere. Pro audio stuff is what you expect. There is a helpful gentleman with glasses that works in that department. Very friendly. Side-note: if you do come here and need help, look for Keith(long haired guy with beard) he's very helpful and friendly. I'd say there's only two friendly employees at this location read more

Went here to complete the bittersweet task of selling my drums. Max helped me unload everything (big kit and a full rack) was fair, honest, knowledgeable, and an overall standup guy. Between checking prices for my drums, he took time to explain electronic drums to me as I've been out of the loop for a while. If I ever find space for a kit, I know where to go. read more

An odd review to write because I really like the amp I purchased and the store has a good section. The supervisor I spoke to as I was picking out my amp was great. Unfortunately the sales person I had to buy my amp from was terrible. He kept me waiting for 15 minutes while he did basic paperwork, and shrieked at me for talking to his customer (basically, while he was in the back, a parent asked me what amp I'd recommend). He even yelled something about how he 'wasn't going to split his commission with me' whatever the hell that meant. At the end of the transaction he practically threw the amp's manual at me (he couldn't be bothered to get me one in a box). All in all, I have never felt more dirty and resented for spending $200.00 in my life. So obviously I won't be back to spend more money with him. Which otherwise I would, because, I mentioned earlier, the amp was great and they had a lot of gear I want to upgrade to as soon as I can. read more

After almost 10 minutes I left and ordered on Amazon (and saved a few bucks,,,) Most important thing you do in retail is COLLECT THE MONEY when the customer wants to buy and leave! This is not about 1 store, but Guitar Center in general. I want to buy an electronic drumset, and the one I wanted was on sale this past weekend (Mem. Day). On their webpage, it just said on sale, $50 off. It didn't say how long the sale was, or that it only applied to online purchases. The following Tuesday, I called the Millbury store to confirm stock, and the price. Yes, they had it, but it was no longer on sale. That sale lasted a whopping 2 days. I called c/s, and the woman said yes, the sale is over, and it was for online only. She then offered me 7% off the original price. NO. I sent a message on their Facebook page, and I was told that someone would call me within 24 hours. Nobody did. So, I called again, and told them the whole story again, and this time I was offered 10%, whuch was not the price at $50 off. The difference between the 10% off price, and the sale price is about $12. So for $12, they gave up a $400+ sale, plus a new customer. Sweerwater offers double the warranty for free, so I'll pay full price to not have to play games. I will never contact Guitar Center again. read more

I think there's a lot of Guitar Center hate out there. And there are several things I don't like about the chain and even this store, but it's a great choice for most people and I would still recommend it to most people. What I like is that in the area, it has the best selection, hands down. That's one of the drawbacks to the competitors, such as Music Go Round in Natick. The salespeople are, despite other reviews, generally quite knowledgeable about their products. If you flag down a drum guy to ask a guitar question, that might not get you the answer you want. And also, most of the employees have their favorite brands/products. That makes sense and I think it's a good thing. Generally, they've tried out a lot of the products they sell and can offer good advice. There are, of course, some things I'm not a huge fan of. Yes, they will take down almost any price on "regularly priced" guitars and the like, but they won't budge a cent on anything used or clearance, even items that have been taking up floor space for many many months. A completely unwilling management to do anything to increase the likelihood of a sale seems a bit stubborn to me and has cost them a few sales, but it certainly never made me not want to shop there. Their sales team, which works on commission, is pretty split. Some of them are fantastic about locating you the perfect item and some will keep trying to sell you a pricier model, even after you've told them your price range. "Yes, I'd love the more expensive model, but I don't necessarily have the money." The website is both terrific and terrible at the same time. They have promotions all the time, but nearly every major manufacturer is excluded, so you have to call. If you want to zoom in on the tiny inch x inch pictures they have on the site, it will just open the same size picture so you can't see any imperfections without calling or visiting the store. BUT, you can often find great used items at terrific prices (just watch out, they charge shipping on store to store sales!). They're the only brick-and-mortar store in the area that I know of that price matches any new products, but they (for good reason) won't do that with used. Still, I wish they would be a bit flexible. Lastly, I've gone into this GC and bought bunches of items and they do truly have a no-questions asked 30 day policy. Once, I bought about a dozen percussion items, everything from egg shakers to a guiro to a couple of tamborines. And when I decided half of them didn't fit in my repertoire, they took them all back, even when some didn't have tags. I've bought items from GC, Music Go Round as well as the websites Musician's Friend and Music123 (both under GC ownership, I believe) and wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from GC, but given that the other options are still decent, price would dictate a lot of that. Still, if I need something and don't want to wait for it to be shipped, 90% of the time, GC will be my first stop. read more

I think this is a pretty decent joint, as far as big box music stores are concerned. The employees have always been really helpful here (will give you a pick if you want to try out the guitars), and not all up in your face while browsing... super important to me! I hate feeling suffocated while taking my time to look at things (especially since there are so MANY instruments and amplifiers here to look at--one of the best things about being at a retail store, versus online shopping, which I also love). I dig being in the percussion section--mostly because I've always wanted to learn how to play drums--and I especially love the acoustic guitar area, where tons of different instruments are housed, from low-end Yamahas to beautiful $3,000 Martins. Since the acoustics' wood is easily affected by temperature and humidity, this area is enclosed separately, and kept at a constant % humidity and temperature. I love looking at all the gorgeous guitars here, and am always excited whenever I hear someone sit down and play in this space... especially when they try things out on a Taylor or Gibson. The sounds are so rich and deep! Anyway, pretty good selection and decent staff. I'm sure you could probably find something for less online (as is the case with everything vs. big box stores), but it's still nice to be able to FEEL the instruments before purchasing them. Typical big box music store that carries lots of stuff that hides the fact that it represents only a limited set of makers. Couldn't find Washburn guitars or EZDrummer software, or any tuning gears but Planet Waves, etc. I do like the guitar department manager, but even he seems affected by the corporate programming that seeks to turn all sales people into automatons that seem to engage in less honest conversation than in semi-pre-scripted sales tricks. I dislike the fact that everything, even packaged items behind the counter, is overpriced. I saw the price on tuning gears, $50, that I paid $40 for elsewhere a year prior. I said, "gee, when the price go that high," and without further prompting, the robotic associate immediately said, "oh, well, we can do $40 for you." See what I mean? What about the people who don't think aloud like I did? Probably not that much different than Daddy's or other box stores in this respect, but I personally think it's worse at GC. The listed prices just are not fair, in my opinion and I don't like to haggle. It's like buying a car in there every time. And returns, in my experience, on big ticket items, aren't for cash but for credit, or maybe the sales guy just made me believe that -- I don't know. read more

Utterly Useless GC experience - My sister gave me a gift card to this horrible place. I wanted to get an FX pedal - and they had it - so eek a trip to GC.... 12 year olds sitting playing - not music - just holding a guitar - playing with the rack of pedals. the entire time - I knew what I wanted - so got one from the clerk - gave him my sympathy for having to put up with such crap. Went to the "pro-audio" section... ha ha ha .... so we were looking for a Nord to check out - "oh no - we dont stock them... well I can see why I guess - all those 12 year old fingers on the keys - jez.... Came here Saturday to pick out an acoustic guitar. Ended up with a nice Yamaha that didn't break the bank, thanks mostly to my generous familia who hooked me up with $150 of gift certs here. See, I've played since I was a kid, and had sort of a banged up electric kicking around until I sold it this summer when the wife and I packed up and moved. So, I've been itching to get another 6 string for some mighty fine pickin' and a strummin.' The sales guy was helpful, pointing out pros and cons of the various guitars I tried out. I told him my max was $200, and while he did encourage me to try out the $250 model, he wasn't a jerk about pushing it on me hard. I sprang for a $40 case and $27 for the 2 year protection plan - no ?'s asked, they replace your axe if it breaks. Figured it was worth the extra cake! Been coming here for years, ever since it opened in 1997 in my dear old hometown of Natick....figured it was only right to go back to this location as opposed to Boston. Glad to give my guy one last commission before closing time this past Saturday night! read more

He helped us pick out an interface, mic, and recording software that were all within our budget and exactly met our needs. First of all, the equipment they have is great, the employees they have not so much, specifically a gentleman named keith, he wasn't the brightest star, he seemed to be relatively new.. or so it seemed.. we payed for renting equipment plenty of times using our debit card.. he attempted to tell us we could only use a credit card? But that wouldn't make sense because we wouldn't get the insurance fee returned if it was a credit card.. mind you we have payed with debit every time.. lol.. the whole transaction took 50 minutes, he asked for my ID, I gave him my Military ID.. and he said no he wanted a drivers license .. um well I've used my Military before every time.. what if I didn't drive ? Just the whole thing was really out of line, I called the manager to let him know he really needs someone maybe assisting him with transactions as such the manager didn't seem to truly care, but not all do and not all end up with great business so that's fine, my previous review got deleted as well which we found hilarious, deffinetly would suggest going elsewhere and spending your money.. read more

He has assisted with persisting hi-hat and bass drum pedal issues and even installed the equipment which was very helpful. This was the worst purchasing experience I've ever encountered at a guitar instrument. No wonder people say shop local. I came in to return an instrument, which they let me do, in exchange for one I had originally purchased. They then said that it was all sales final very quietly as they rang me up. Keep in mind this is a $1,500 piece of gear. Nothing at that price should be all sales final even if it's marked down by $100. I proceeded with the return and on driving home realized that this is not the guitar that my brother was going to want for his birthday as he wanted a different PRS model than I had bought. I therefore tried to bring it back two hours later, yes, two hours the SAME DAY, and they yelled saying that I was wrong and that they could buy it back from me at a fraction of what I paid for it but they couldn't accept it as an exchange for a different model. These are thousand+ dollar instruments everyone. You should be able to bring it back two hours later if you got the wrong model. Stay away from this store if you want decent service, genuine feedback, and guidance in an extremely complicated process! Go to Boston or go to many of the hundreds of wonderful local stores nearby. This manager who handled my interaction should not be allowed to deal with customers. I digress read more

I have found all personnel to be friendly, knowledgeable and helpful whether it was drums, keyboards, electronics or guitars. Friday, October 28th I visited the Guitar Center in Natick, MA. I have frequented this store many times for things, however, after I purchased the bulk of my equipment, i've only recently come for cables, headphones, microphones, etc. My recent visit was more unique as I came in with a somewhat complex problem and (hopefully) wanted help. Let me also add in that I (used to be) a frequent guitar center shopper, being the proud owner of a $5,000 GC credit card owner that i've used many-a-time. This is only relevant to the story to show how much I've spent with Guitar Center and why I was so incredibly disappointed in my recent visit. So it's Friday around lunch time and I'm trying to figure out a solution to temporarily fix a talkback issue I was having with my PreSonus Central Station Plus. I did some research and found out an easy temporary fix would be to buy a dynamic mic, an xlr cable, and a little desktop mix stand to use while I decided to buy a new Central Station Plus or go bigger for a better talkback/monitor system. I bought a Shure SM58 as I knew it was a decent mic that would pick up well in my studio. A chubby brazilian man named Carlos helped me in the Pro Audio department made the sale and everything was fine. When I was working with Carlos, I was extremely transparent about my situation and made sure he knew that this sale was only a temporary solution. I understand they're commissioned and i'd hoped that his tiny brain would understand that I was going to come back and spend $600 - 2,000 instead of the $187 i spent on the gear on 10/28/2016. So the weekend passes and I make my mind up. I'm gonna just order another PreSonus Central Station Plus for now and wait to save up for a D-Box monitor system with talkback. So I get to Guitar Center in Natick (thankfully it's only 10 minutes away from my studio) and I see Carlos again. I go to start the return process and immediately he's enraged that i'm making a return. I'm a naturally happy-go-lucky kind of person so I tend to have a super happy demeanor when I speak. I guess he didn't like that or was having a bad day (or took that I was happy I was making a return at his commission's expense) and told me to "never fucking ask for his help again and if I come back and need help, don't ever fucking buy anything from [him] again." I was appalled. How easily did this idiot forget that I was trying to make a return to SPEND MORE MONEY? Well, needless to say, I complained to the store manager at the time, Dan, who kept talking to me like it was no big deal and constantly saying "sweet dude" like we were at Woodstock in the fucking 70s again. Nothing about my interaction with Carlos was "sweet dude" and the fact that his reaction was like that made me realize exactly why Guitar Center is going down the drain and their store is wasteland of gear and guitars. Honestly, if this is how their employees treat their customers and shame them into doing returns or treat their customers like shit when they try to make a legitimate complaint, then i'm extremely happy that this business is tanking and I will pray every night that this place is forced to shut down. Oh, the employees are all idiots here (minus a few). Some 16 high school kid who worked in the pro-audio department try to tell me that Mackie studio monitors are better than Yamaha's and that they were the best studio monitors that the store sold. Where do these morons get trained? How are you going to tell a customer that? Does he just get the most commission for selling that speaker? He also didn't know what a MicroKorg was and tried to tell me I could use a midi keyboard with a Banshee Talkbox. What happened to you guitar center? If I ever go to this store again, it will be to waste the employee's time helping me demo products then buying them online with Amazon or Sweetwater where at least they have some knowledge of the products and way better customer service. For a box this place ain't bad, although I prefer the Guitar Center in Manchester, CT. With that said I could spend hours in this place, and still feel the need to go back the next day. The people are really friendly and helpful, and above all they know the answers to most of my questions; except one person didn't know what the Ebow is, and I don't think they carry it. read more

The staff here are great. The lay out of the store is wonderful for testing any gear you could want. I got a concert ukulele and the sales person was young, knowledgeable, and even brought out options from the back separating out one with a crack. He knew I liked the darker wood with shell inlay and the deeper sound so helping pick one was easier with his guidance. We also got strings to replace on my old guitar and a book of 3 chord songs for the new uke. Overall a very good visit. The prices were okay not cheap but decent. Good visit. I would definitely go back. They did not however have much in the way of uke carryalls or bags. Which I wanted but I will prob get it off Amazon. read more

As the non-musical parent of a young guitarist I have found this place very hit or miss. I don't know anything about guitars so I have been reliant on advice from their staff. The first guitar they sold him was totally inappropriate for his size. It was one of those cheap electric guitar packages. He was only eight and we really should have been pointed to the 3/4 size (which is about the same price anyway). The full sizes are really too heavy for a child to play comfortably. We went back months later after he was having tendon problems looking for a 3/4 size to alleviate his wrist strain and back pain, on the recommendation of his guitar teacher. The dipstick girl that we talked to basically refused to sell us a 3/4 size because she didn't think it was the right size. Correct sizing seems to be a matter of opinion but incorrect sizing can cause problems if the kid is playing a lot. That said, some of the other staff has been helpful and good and they are open for much longer hours than the local independents. Now I think I would go to Needham Music first for small things. If I needed to buy a guitar for a child I think I would go to Mr. Music or maybe Guitar Stop in Cambridge. They seem to have kids' music teachers working there a lot which I think can help get the right fit and set up for a guitar. I have learned that for kids, to avoid strain, it is a good idea to ask for a low action set up so the strings are easy to press. This makes the guitar a little buzzy but it prevents tendonitis if the kids are new to playing. The guitar teacher should be able to help but if the teacher has never had tendonitis he might not be so versed or concerned with injury prevention. read more

I have gone to Guitarcenter in natick a few times now. I usually enjoy it despite the fact that i am left handed and out of the 1000s of guitars they have like 8 lefty guitars but still love it. Most of the staff is incredibly nice. For example the other day i went in to buy an amp and i wanted to trade in my old amp and epiphone les paul and a guy who worked in the guitars section named Al really helped me out. Incredibly nice and professional with the type of personality you want when you go in to a store looking to purchase somthing. Overall it was a great experience and they have a lot of great deals to offer! read more

I'm a drummer and although the drum room is relatively large and stocked, there are days when NO drum specialists are there. This means you have to rely on a non-drummer GC employee to help. For simple purchases this is fine, but if you have questions with more nuances you have to come back a different day. Not sure why this store is using this business model, but it is far from convenient, and if I need something that day, I call first and go somewhere else if nobody is there to help. read more

Good for supplies (strings, sticks, cables) but very small selection of vendors with most items geared to beginners. Staff expertise and customer service is hit or miss. Their guitar "tech" tried to convince me the action on the fretboard was beyond repair and he would give me a discount on am in store purchase.
