I wanted to buy a guitar but have some problems with my shoulder and needed help selecting a size and style I could use comfortably. I got no help from the big box stores. I walked into Music Go Round and was immediately greeted by a friendly guy named Jeff. I explained my problem and Jeff showed me a variety of styles and sizes. When he saw how uncomfortable I was, he showed me how to hold the guitar like I was playing classical and it was a revelation. It took all the pressure off my shoulder. He brought me a variety of guitars without trying to upsell at all and I landed on a beautiful Alvarez Parlor size with all Mahagony top, sides and bottom. This guitar new at Guitar stores is selling for $1,100. I bought this slightly used guitar for 1/3 that cost. And, to top it off, the store has a wonderful dog walking around. So, if you want personal service, no pressure sales, and a great bargain on a great guitar--I would stop here. At least that was my experience.

I can't say they actively discourage me in any way. It's just that some of them have a hard time feigning interest. Maybe I'm just not a cool person. I dunno. Some other places have no trouble treating me like I matter, so perhaps it isn't just me. Perhaps I have been encountering an employee who doesn't like his job. Regardless, I keep coming in to see their incredibly good, constantly-rotating inventory. One time, I even sold an amp for them just by being myself, playing some pretty tunes on a nice little setup. A nice older gentleman walked up and complimented the sound I was getting then politely asked if he could buy the amp. We had a wonderful talk and then he bought it while I walked out the door. That made me feel GOOD. That experience has sustained me over a few of the more negative experiences with aforementioned aloof employee.

I had the pleasure of a thorough and empathetic call with either the owner or somebody I'd trust to run the place. ~~~ T took time out of his day to discuss my need as a customer for a very niche need, and I'm sure he takes care of people like me all day with the same aplomb and kindness. I asked about harp pins, and after talking enough, he knew I meant friction pegs but for harps. (No, I didn't know this would also explain it!) While I'm not sure of how practical it is to get teensy harp pins (3 mm size?) or use friction pegs (too large?), T invited me to visit so we could look together. ~~~ He was willing to look through catalogs and online searches with me to find the piece I'd need. How can you beat this kind of interest? The people here are like when you have a home project and need to know *how* to do it and *what* tools you need. Do you want a big name store where nobody knows anything and you're on your own? Of course you don't. You want a place where the employees live and breathe their work. Look at other reviews--Union Music proves it. ~~~ I'm definitely stopping in to see T, even if it's a month or two from now. Thank you for treating me so kindly, T, and Union Music.
