I already know I like this shop. Background: I got a used electric guitar that was shipped with the strings loose. I did a quick tune when I inspected the guitar but the wood is only just bending back into shape so it won't sound perfect yet. As a beginner all I can tell about the guitar is that it seems to be in good order. The best thing for me to do is take the guitar to a professional for a setup, so they can make sure the guitar is going to play well. They'll check things like string height and neck bow to make sure the guitar is playable, and things I know even less about like pickup height. The Review: The guy who runs the place was so careful he asked me to place my guitar case on the ground so he could look at it without it being dropped. I mentioned I'm just taking lessons, which due to Covid is pretty common. He said there was a month of backlog, but I'm in no rush. He proceeded to give me a 20 minute lecture about guitars, strings, baseball, and life. That's exactly the kind of shop I wanted to find. A place where the passion just seeps out of the walls. He offered free tune-ups and for 3 months if I was unhappy with anything. I would bet when I get the guitar back it's even going to smell right from all the love it's going to get. I'll update my review if anything fails to meet expectation, but initial impressions are exactly what I wanted. I hope I can bring all my guitars here when they need attention. read more

I had a Fender Jazzmaster that out of the box had some crazy jumbo frets. I had the guitar for years but simply hated playing it, it felt like speed bumps up and down the neck, as much as I love Jazzmasters it was no fun to play. Finally I brought it to Noll, asked for them bring down the frets and give it a setup. 2 weeks later the guitar played like I always expected it to. Perfect frets, easy playability up and down the neck. Pro setup. I can't put the guitar down now. Just such a pleasure to play and comparable to the 63 I once had. I have to say I was skeptical as most repair shops don't know their way around any of the Fender offsets but Noll happily proved me wrong. Highly recommended! read more

I have brought several guitars here and like all the other reviews, I can't say enough good about these guys. One guitar in particular I brought in two or three years ago was a Dean C350F. I paid $200 for it (Todays price is in the $400-$500). Now, these are great guitars for the money. A new one at the time was $400 so I did well. But I brought it to Nolls for an upgrade on pick-ups, fret work (leveling, etc) and set-up. WOW! This is like a $2,000 guitar now! Actually, worth more than that to me! Let me say that its a damn good guitar at the $400 price mark Dean has on these (flame maple etc) to begin with. Workmanship is awesome for an overseas build. (Dean does quality control here in the states). That being said, the fret work was so amazing and the set-up on the action was flawless! read more

Wow. I have an irreplaceable "specialty guitar", if you will - a 2004 ESP/LTD MHB-400 Baritone that simply can't be found anywhere, new or used. It was out of use for four years, and I made the mistake of not detuning before it stopped being used. I went back to use it after four years, and it was great, for maybe a week. It got worse, and worse. Playability gone. Awful. I looked down the neck. The more I looked, the more warped the neck looked. It's a neckthru guitar. I started shopping for replacements, writing off the prize guitar from my collection of 12 or so guitars. I seriously almost dismantled it for parts, and accepted that it was junk. Late into the game, a friend convinced me to have a pro look at it. I brought it into Noll, and I was assured that it would be no problem to get it back playing correctly, and better than it ever had. I was quoted $60 for a setup, and about a week's time to turn around. I chuckled "yeah, right" to myself. He looked down that very same neck, and said it "just needed a minor adjustment". I knew that these guys were professionals, but I figured that this was a poker face, and that he would just give it a college try, instead of turning me away. It was better than where I was at with it, though. I left it in the good hands of Noll, and wished for the best, not expecting anything other than bad news. I went back on the day that they quoted me it'd be done on, and I was told that it was all set. He asked if I'd like to try it out, and I said yes, of course. The second I took my baby into my hands again, I felt a difference. The action was WAY lower than it was, even from the day I bought it. IT PLAYED PERFECTLY!!! IT PLAYS PERFECTLY!!! A MIRACLE!!! $60 to save an irreplaceable guitar? Almost too good to be true. The day I got it back was yesterday. Today I am bringing my next-in-line prize (not quite as much of a prize but close) to them for another setup. Best money I've spent in a long time. I have other guitars that need setups, and you can bet, they are going to go in one by one. There aren't enough stars to rate Noll Guitars high enough. read more

I was a steady customer at Noll Guitars many years ago. Had moved out of the area back in the 90's to Nashville and now based in Texas. I'm a full time player and only deal with pros when it comes to tweaking or moding if it's something I don't do myself. Up here for a visit and had my Maton acoustic with me which was just fret plecked and tweaked at Joe Glaser's great shop in Nashville on the way up here. Their work was great as always. Still, I wasn't 100 per cent with it (I was still searching to get it just right for me and had to get back on the road. At Noll Guitars, Jim worked with me -- sensed where I wanted to go with it and got it just right. Absolutely great experience. The shop is better than I remembered and it's got a good vibe. I highly recommend Noll Guitars. They may not have a plek machine but I wouldn't hesitate to have fretwork or anything else done there. Was fun to see Stan again too. He's always got an interesting story to tell with a lot of humor. Just a great place to have your guitar needs done right! read more
