And really, not without reason…read more My stepfather's business always got sheet music and books from axelrod's, but eventually the owner (Jackie, I believe) became unreliable and over priced, he really had no choice but to order online to ensure he had legal copies of music for students in a timely manner. THe final straw he had with axelrods is that I was looking for an instrument, the owner took us into a freezing cold back room filled with violins and other string instruments....now to me having been a band geek, you are not supposed to subject instruments to overly hot or cold conditions as they can crack or warp. To boot she was asking three times was Robert's music quoted me for a few year old instrument for one made during the reagan administration.

The old location was in an ancient building with 900 year old creaky wood floors and lots of charm. Inside were racks and racks full of music for every instrument and every genre. Probably every kid in the state that was in High school band knows Axelrod. The new store located out in the sticks is bigger, has less charm, but still has the biggest collection of sheet music I've ever seen. Less instruments before, but they're doing everything they can to survive in an internet shopping world, where kids play soccer instead of the saxamaphone. Well hear this sports fans- Charlie Parker, Hendrix, and Jelly Roll Morton had a LOT more fun than Pele, Babe Ruth, or Heisman. They can special order many things, if not everything.

Scott is not only a great guitar player himself, but an incredibly gifted teacher. He really takes…read morethe effort to find out how to best help each individual student learn. I came to him as a casual player who wanted to improve my rock/blues playing. He quickly noticed what parts of my playing were holding me back, and showed me how to improve in those areas. Before taking lessons, I had learned a lot from Youtube and some college friends. I still think Youtube is a great tool, but nothing compares to having a good teacher in front of you. He came up with a personalized plan to help me improve my chops, as well as add to my guitar vocabulary. At the same time, he easily adapted by changing the day's lesson if I had something specific in mind. His lessons added much more structure to my practicing that I didn't have beforehand, which helped to improve my playing in many ways. Also, thanks to his lessons, I was confident when I played a short acoustic piece at my sister's wedding this summer. Scott has knowledge of many different aspects of guitar playing, so as I thought of different things I wanted to learn (from finger picking to pinch harmonics to setting up my guitar) he was always able to teach me. He's also a very informed gear-head. So as I was looking for a new electric guitar, and a couple of pedals, he had many good suggestions for me. I had taken lessons from someone else before finding Guitar Strength, and I can definitely say the difference was huge. Scott is clearly passionate about all things guitar, and he really enjoys helping others learn. Also, some of my favorite bands were recommended to me by him. I am in my mid-twenties, but I know Scott has students of all ages. I saw many younger students who had lessons before mine who were clearly enjoying themselves. I would definitely recommend Guitar Strength to anyone who is serious about improving themselves as a guitar (or bass) player, and as a musician in general. He has a great knowledge of the pianos and let me sit and play all of the different pianos for as long as I wanted before I made my choice. It turned out to be the "new" owner, Larry. (New because he became the owner 10 years ago, and Luca Music has been around since I used to shop at Almacs... ) The building is the exactly the same as it was in the 80s and it's well kept, so for me it's like stepping back in time when I took music lessons here. Pretty fantastic to have something so well preserved for the next generation. I told Larry what I was looking for. He did a great job showing me my options and while he showed the the nicest version of what I was looking for, he in no way pressured me to spend extra. He got me just what I wanted and even made me a nice bundle offer that I am confident got me the best deal around. He even threw in extra after the sale. We did business and then he helped carry my purchase to the car. So while we tend to forget the Small Business so often in lieu of box stores and online shipping, there's something about the time and care and appreciation I felt today at Luca Music. I would not hesitate to return or recommend.

Jamstage rocks...literally. I'm a drummer who doesn't own his own kit and can't get one due to…read morethin walls and neighbors. So, this is a place where I can go and play whenever I want. It's really really cheap, only $10/hour when you just play the drums. They have fans and AC for when you get hot and a good PA system so you can play along with a CD or your iPod. The staff is very friendly and helpful, except for the oldest guy. He could be nicer; he makes you feel uncomfortable if you need his help with something. But the rest of the staff is awesome.
