Really wanted to love this place and give it at least 4 stars - but more like 3.5 stars. it was…read moregood, just not great. Was looking for a spot that served homemade pasta and was open for lunch on the weekend. Plenty of parking and the atmosphere is very quaint and romantic so it would be good for a date night. The place opens at 1130 on Saturdays, so reservations were made for 1130. We were the first customers to arrive to the restaurant and were seated promptly. We were told by the server (forgot her name but she was very sweet and very new) that it would just be her until the bartender gets there after 12.....umm if you open at 1130, you should have a bartender there at 1130...so she could offer beer and wine until then, hmm... We ordered appetizers and entrees. Shortly our drinks came - and yes accidents do happen but our server spilled a glass of beer on my sister. I don't blame her completely, I think it was a lot for only her to handle everyone until more people came in to help. All in all, food was ok, fave app was calamari, least favorite was stuffed mushrooms - I was little disappointed in my chicken parm. It was just ok - I ordered it with pink vodka, should've stuck with red sauce. I love me a good pink sauce, this one was just ok - it was much creamier than I'm used to and they didn't really put a lot of sauce on the dish itself but it had a thick coating of cheese on the chicken. I took a bite from other dishes and def liked them better than mine. I opted to get fresh pasta and my entire dish in the pink sauce, didn't realize the uncharges until after we left, it was about $10 ($4 for the pasta and I take it $6 for the sauce?) more than the selling price of my actual chicken parm price tag making it $37...... Also just note that there is a cake cutting fee ($1.70 pp). As we continued to dine, the place started to fill up more. I am not against coming back but would opt to try other dishes.

It was a quiet weeknight evening in the restaurant and understandable due to the recent snowstorm. The menu has changed with some favorites no longer there and some new dishes added. Prices ae higher than those on the previous menu. As an appetizer we shared a small tasty thin grilled pizza margherita. Our entrees for our party of 3 included veal Itri Piccata: Prosciutto, capers, and black olives with a white wine, lemon butter sauce, garlic parmesan mashed potatoes and green beans; Penne Fagioli: Penne pasta, cannellini beans, prosciutto, garlic, celery hearts, San Marzano tomatoes and grated Pecorino Romano cheese and, thirdly Breaded, pan-fried, eggplant parmigiano topped with mozzarella, and baked in a tomato basil sauce with penne pasta. The only dish which was not pleasing was the Penne Fagioli as it was extremely peppery. Service by Layla was excellent as she was efficient, informative and so very pleasant. Assistants to her were also helpful throughout our meals.

This place could be so perfect with only a couple small changes! - There are white flourescent style lights on the ceiling. This really kills the vibe. It's almost like the top of the restaurant and the bottom don't match. You have cozy, 70's style wood paneling with dark wooden booths and stained glass lights hanging over the tables. Warm, cozy and intimate. Then, bright white lights above. I'd love to eat here with those bright lights turned off sometime. - Probably not economical but red checkered tablecloths, like vintage Italian restaurants used to have would make this place look like a movie set in a good way. That being said, everything else about this place is cool ... you know a good spot by how many regulars are there and everyone seemed to know everyone else by name on a Tuesday night. It wasn't crowded ... but it wasn't empty on an off-night. - The staff is exceptionally good. The waitress and hostess couldn't have been any sweeter and more helpful. Fast refills on the soft drinks and helpful without being intrusive. - The pizza is good. I have to admit, I am not sold on the cheddar cheese vs. mozzarella. I thought it would give the cheese an interesting, sharper taste but it seemed a bit bland. I will do the Italian-style next time with mozzarella. I liked my pizza but there was just something different about it. The crust is Greek-style ... kind of like the old Pizza Hut, when it was actually made fresh. Back in the 1980's and 90's there was nothing better than a golden, buttery light and crisp pizza crust from Pizza Hut, before the brand went to shit. This reminds me of that goodness of 1980's pizza crust. I'm not a thin crust guy ... but if you are, they have a thinner crust on the menu as well. Topping was good, maybe a bit spicier pepperoni would be a bit better ... toppings are a tad expensive for a few slices of pepperoni. A 3-topping pizza adds around $5. The small is good for two-people with light/moderate appetites. I wouldn't be able to eat a small and a salad by myself. Speaking of the salad ... one of the best regular house salads I've ever had. The dressing is amazing ... tangy, salty, perfectly done. I know it's hard to get all worked up over a standard Italian dressing but often the simplest things in cooking are the hardest to get right ... and they get the dressing right! Also, the lettuce was super fresh and the tomatoe slices were as well. The only issue I had was there was no 'side salad' version. There was a 'small' salad for around $8 ... but that could easily feed 2 - 4 people. Overall, this place gets just about everything right. It doesn't change or modernize. It's portions are great ... the food is very good ... prices maybe a bit high compared to other spots ... but you can tell they don't cut corners and everything is freshly made. The bar is where I'd want to sit normally ... but the seats are very close together and I didn't want to be elnow to elbow with strangers, so I snagged a small booth, which was also fine. The customers seemed nice ... but they all seemed very 'Cranston'. If they could deal with the lighting situation and make it less bright, I'd eat here 2 times per week. You can't beat a classic ... and this place is a classic.

In the past, I've asked for extra rolls and they've been so generous that they gave me a whole bag. The price is super reasonable. Not only do they offer these combos and a full menu to order from, but their gourmet express section is packed with different options of pastas and meats that you can buy by weight. Their pastries are also delicious, and they have a huge variety. I wish I had more pictures of all these items, but I usually just run in quickly on my lunch breaks. Location: This location has its own parking, so you don't have to worry about finding a spot. There are two different areas: the express side, where you can grab and go or sit down for a quick bite, and the restaurant side, where some people dress up to dine. This place is great for different type of occasion or even just a grab and go order. Service: The service has always been quick, efficient, and friendly. Since I usually go during lunch, I often call ahead, and every time they're polite and fast. Picking up in person is always smooth, with no issues.

In a world where restaurants seem to either reinvent themselves every six months or completely fall apart after a few good years, Antonio's just keeps doing what it does well. Good food, solid portions, professional service, and that old-school Italian restaurant atmosphere that Rhode Island somehow still manages to preserve better than almost anywhere else. My wife and I went recently for dinner and had one of those meals where everything just flowed the way you want it to. We started with the fried calamari, which was excellent. Light, crispy, not drowning in grease, and actually seasoned properly. A lot of places phone calamari in because it's such a standard appetizer, but this tasted fresh and well executed. The hot peppers mixed in gave it a nice kick without taking over the plate. We also got a couple espresso martinis because it feels almost illegal to eat Italian food in Cranston without at least considering one. For dinner, I went with the chicken parmigiana after hearing people rave about it for years, and honestly, they weren't wrong. The chicken was tender, perfectly breaded, and the sauce had that slow-cooked flavor that tastes like somebody's grandmother has been guarding the recipe since the Reagan administration. My wife ordered the seafood fra diavolo, which came loaded with shrimp, clams, mussels, and enough garlic to keep vampires away for the rest of the week. Spicy without being ridiculous. The portions were generous too. Not "food challenge" oversized, just satisfying. Dessert was tiramisu for the table because at that point you're already committed to the experience. Really good balance of espresso flavor and mascarpone without feeling overly heavy. Sometimes tiramisu can feel like eating sweet drywall. This wasn't that. Service was also great all night. Attentive without hovering. Drinks stayed filled, plates disappeared quickly, and the pacing of the meal felt relaxed but organized. You never felt rushed, but you also weren't sitting there wondering if your waiter had moved to another state midway through dinner. The place itself has that classic Rhode Island Italian restaurant energy. Comfortable, a little lively, people talking loudly across tables, waiters who look like they've worked there forever, and the smell of garlic and red sauce hitting you the second you walk in. It's not trendy or trying to become some minimalist foodie experiment. Thank God for that.
