My husband is a guitar player and so we often go to Guitar Center. The one we regularly visit is the one in Warwick. My husband often brings in some gear to sell or trade (mainly guitar pedals), and being blind can be a challenge, but everyone is always kind and patients with us. We always have a great interaction with Chip, and last time we also had a great interaction with Cook. Being able to go to a place and feel welcome, particularly as a blind person, is so important for my husband. We love going to guitar center, and appreciate the mix of used and new gear, and if there's not something there, someone can look to see if it's online or in another store. I also love the ease of being able to return an online purchase in store, making it much easier than try to ship back. read more

Avoid the Warwick location, the North Attleboro location is the only decent Guitar Center in the greater Providence area. I'd given up on this location after an absolutely boneheaded experience a few months back. That visit was to check out a rare vintage synth guitar which showed up in their online inventory. It was an absolute comedy of errors trying to get anyone to help even though I showed several of their staff members the online listing and literally everything they needed to know. There was an included rackmount processor that was necessary to test the unit but it took asking three different employees to produce the thing, including one young employee with BIG attitude I had to ask three times. It took 45 minutes. I'd never consider waiting that long except that the synth guitar is rare and I might never get a chance to test one out again before purchasing. They finally got the rack unit but didn't have cables and an amp in the room with the guitar and seemed clueless to the fact that all they'd need to do was grab one from elsewhere in the store. I left without having played the instrument. It was a remarkably stupid experience. Fast forward to today. I've grown to avoid the place like the plague but I needed an item, ideally sooner than later. I looked at the main website which showed the cheapest available at $15, with zero availability at either Warwick or Attleboro. I figured I'd call directly on the outside chance they'd have something on hand. Warwick assured me they had them in stock for $7 whereas Attleboro had none. Given my previous poor customer service experiences, I politely asked the employee to verify the price and to hold one for me. He said he was certain and that there'd be no need to hold the item because they had plenty in stock. I decided to risk it and drove 25 minutes down the highway. They had them but they were $15, because of course. I grabbed an employee who was as uninterested in providing assistance as nearly every other Warwick employee has been. He passed me the excuse that the other employee probably based their quoted price on the various other similar, but very clearly different, ones they had on hand priced at $7. Genius. I asked who might have answered my phone call and quoted me the price. He looked into the distance and said "It's just us here today". I could tell he wasn't about to ask around. Customer. Service. This location is an absolute joke. It's cool, though. I bought the item so I can use it for the next few days while I wait on my $8 online order from a competitor to come in the mail. After that, I'll be returning the item in question to GC. I don't usually play games like that but they've wasted my time and gas more than once. Fair's fair. read more

Received confirmation and drove substantially out of my way to pickup the aforementioned, paid for, "in stock" item. Any guesses on the outcome? If you guessed "in stock" item was not "in stock" you are correct! The staff were nice enough and apologetic but this is a failure in basic inventory control. I recently sold my Epiphone Les Paul Special to guitar center in Warwick (9/11/2024; 2:45 pm). When I arrived I was greeted right away, but no matter how many times I tried to be friendly, I was treated as if I wasn't there, and was mocked when all three cashiers thought I was out of earshot. When I received my money I was treated as if they didn't want me there. I would NOT recommend going here. Drive further to another store if you have to. read more

Know what you're getting. Half the workers are just picking up a paycheck at a corporate store. If you've never worked corporate, trust me every big corporation drives the passion out of you fast. Don't expect great service unless you luck out and get someone who still has that passion. Don't expect consistent policies because corporate is always changing things for no reason. But - the place does work for what it does. Guitar Center has one of the largest used guitar networks in the world. That means you can often get something shipped across the country, for free or cheap, if you pick it up in store. You can usually talk them into refunding shipping if the ad lied about the guitar, since the descriptions are often short, vague, and pictures are low resolution if they exist. This sounds like a lot of negatives. But I ordered a rare used guitar online for cheap, picked it up in store, and it was in the condition the seller promised. They had no problem with me plugging it in and testing it. That's all I ask for. I even nabbed some picks and a Guitar Grimoire while I was in. I haven't seen one of those in a guitar case for 20 years, so I had to. Know what you're getting, and this place is okay. For my guitar setup and repair I will absolutely go to a local, family-owned business. But for trading used gear, Guitar Center's return policy is a lot safer than dealing with strangers on eBay. Their network means you're more likely to get a specific guitar than if you went to your local shop. If you don't know what guitar to get, go to your locally-owned shop and let them recommend something. If you want a specific used guitar (or drums, or keyboard, or pedals) from the online catalog, then Guitar Center is up there with Reverb for great places to buy. This specific store was as clean as a Guitar Center ever is. They weren't wiping down every guitar for Covid, but since your handling porous wood surfaces it's not like there's a lot they can do. Sanitize your hands when you walk in and again when you walk out, and you're good. read more

I can't say that I'm a huge fan of the Guitar Center chain overall. I do go there. I will buy strings (always check Amazon because they will price match) and I like to browse the used gear, but that's about all for me. I do however work with a guy with down-syndrome who loves to goto guitar center to play the electric drums. This Warwick location has been kind and welcoming to him for years. The staff knows his name and know he respects the equipment and the other customers and are all just awesome with him. I know some of the staff has changed over the time we've been going to this store but everyone is just as nice and it is greatly appreciated. We recently went in and he brought his own drum sticks and I brought some Clorox wipes so I could clean everything he touched so that we didn't make any addition work for the staff. If you are planning a trip to guitar center please goto the warwick location. They do always have some cool oddball used gear to check out and they are just good people. I previously posted a very negative review due to the cancelation of my confirmed order. Originally, I was told the item had been previously sold. Since that happened, and I posted the review, I have heard from Guitar Center corporately and the Warwick store manager. The store manager has done a fine job of remedying the situation for me and caused me to want to increase my star rating from one to four. I would give 4.5 if I could. I am very pleased with their responsiveness. I cannot give a five star because I think the company, not the store, needs to make sure the sales system knows when something is sold, whether online or in the store, and quickly sync that so this sort of confusion is not likely to happen. I've never bought a used guitar online before, but I took a chance and ordered one from these guys. The trip across the country to Oregon was pretty hard on the box, and the guitar had a faulty switch. I contacted the store and Alan (the manager?) took good care of me. Things to play Wow, what a selection of modern musical instruments. The store is divided into several rooms, one for guitars, one for drums, one for keyboards, etc. I pounded, picked, plucked and strummed all kind of things. Everyone was nice and just ignored me as I enjoyed myself. They have a great inventory of guitars, Les Paul, old Firebirds, Telecastors, Strats, just about anything you could want, even a used and vintage guitar area. Plus some nice mandolins and a separate room for acoustic guitars. The drum room not only had kits but numerous hand drums. Dubeks, double drums, tablas and djembes everywhere. The electronic/recording room also had a great selection and I had a nice talk with the knowledgeable fellow that works there about recording techniques. It was obvious he wasn't trying to sell me anything, he just loved talking about the subject. I was extremely impressed with not only the amount and quality of the instruments but also how nice, friendly and knowledgeable the employees were. The only negative is that this is a modern music store. No early instruments or music and unfortunately as knowledgeable as the people were about modern music, mention Medieval, Renaissance or Baroque music and you get a blank stare. Buyer Beware! When shopping at Guitar Center, the staff always pushes to get the service plan. I bought an item and paid for the plan because I was told that if anything went wrong with the item I could simply exchange for a new one at the store. When I called the store they told me to call a service department. When I called the service department they told me I have to call the manufacturer because I didn't break the item, it stopped working. So, long story short, unless you break an item, it is not covered under the service plan (not at all what I was told). So, if you shop at GC (which I will never do again), if something ever goes wrong, tell them you dropped it or it isn't covered. read more

I was completely freaked out here by the sales associate who had a 1-inch diameter peg in his ear. My earlobe is not even that big if I stretch it out!! I just bought an acoustic guitar from this place, after much deliberation and calculation. The assistance I had from Brian totally made everything easier. I found a sweet and sturdy hard case for my new guitar for a low price, and was able to make comparisons between models that I wouldn't have figured out on my own. I love that when i think, i want to try this piece of gear most the time they have it. it is a big chain that has a good level of stock. The staff changes bi-monthly i swear, it is almost impossible to have a go to salesman, cause they never last. I hate to be the customer who says "i've spent so much money here" but when i ask to try something in the 4 digit range it means i'm here to buy. two weeks ago i asked to play an american strat on the wall.... the sales man said "dude, I'd have to get a ladder..." to which i looked at him like "no shit" he literally walked away and never came back. I purchased a used american strat on ebay this week.... his loss, i saved myself a few 100 bucks lol my GC card has a 5k limit with a current zero balance.... dudes an idiot. read more

They really don't have what real, gigging or touring musicians need outside of strings and picks. Guitar Center seems to aim for the easy, lucative underbelly of the gear buying public: novices, dreamers, and parents. If you need gear work done such as amp or guitar repair, rebuild, customization, or setup, stay far far far away. The places you should go are Noll Guitar in Cranston and B Sharp on broadway in providence. If you are buying your first electric guitar, you can do far better online (craigslist) or used (daddy's junky music down the street). There are things that Guitar Center is good for. Trying out guitars different than what you normally play, the aforementioned strings, picks, tuners, and their pedal selection is not bad. They have financing and do trade-ins. I also don't like having my bags searched at the front desk when leaving. Its insulting. Points also deducted for prog-rock flash metal employees 'casually' plugging in and showing their chops. That's as painful as hearing 14 yr old me awkwardly plucking the opening riff of Stairway to Heaven circa 1992. read more

The worst customer service I've ever experienced, multiple times. Came a few weeks ago and stood in drums waiting for an associate for over a half hour before finally asking someone to come back and grab what I needed, to which he was visibly annoyed. Same thing today. Stood there for 20 minutes while the associates just stood in the front of the store. I knew better than to ask for help, especially as I know it would (a) be someone who knows nothing about drums, and/or (b) they'd be pissy. Went to the store, was told they didn't have what I wanted even though the internet says they had it in stock, guy told me the truck comes in Thursday and they will have more so just come back, this was Monday. I drive out on Thursday, same story, come back Monday. I finally decide to order online. Places the order, got confirmation and says 3-5 business days. 2 weeks later, no package so I call customer service. They tell me there was a glitch in their system, they apologized, said it was fixed and I would receive email confirmation immediately and the package within days. Fast forward 1-1/2 weeks later, no email, no package. I called today and was told they still don't understand why there is a problem getting the order out. It should not have been a problem. I then requested they cancel the order and refund my credit card. We will see if that happens. I do not have a lot of faith that this will go smoothly since nothing else has. I would have given no stars except that I could not wow a review without picking at least 1. I have purchased a lot of DJ equipment from The Guitar Centers for a lot of money but i feel this is the end of the road. I'll find another company that can get things done at least the second time. After reading other reviews, it seems i;m not alone. I was looking for and electric guitar and amp for my daughter. I walked around and played several guitars, all the staff passed me by with not even a nod or hello. It appeared they hire the homeless here, dirty looking and unprofessional.
