Pat has closed his shop and retired. A loss for all guitarists, as he is the best tech anywhere.

Five or so calls later and I got to talking with Scott at Naked Guitar Repair. He came off as a good dude who was really comfortable with guitars and confident in his work, so even though I had found a cheaper option, I drove over to Madbury to meet Scott. His shop is located in the same lot as a landscaping business and is entered through the side door under the green awning along the right-hand side of the building. The space is refreshingly unfinished, with tools lining the perimeter workbench spaces and guitars in various states of build hanging along the walls. The real look of the place was the first of a few indications that I had chosen the right repair shop for my old Yamaha. Scott looked up from his work and received me warmly into his workshop. He deftly inspected the guitar, played a Spanish riff to check its original condition, and concluded that it was in great shape, definitely worth cleaning up. Throughout the "interview" he was really friendly and shared a great deal of information about his history with guitars; during this conversation I also came to learn that Scott builds electric guitars from scratch under the name Stonewall Instruments in this same space (another indication that my Yamaha was in good hands). He was even willing to work with me on the price of the work. I picked up the guitar a few days later, and, needless to say, it sparkled and sang. I'll try to include a photo of it with this post, but you should just take my word for it -- the guitar glows like it was touched by a experienced perfectionist and is matched by the sweetest tone, new strings tight and sharp. Can't be more happy with the "upgrade" Scott was able to bring out of her. Not only do I recommend Naked Guitar Repair to anyone looking for a honest conversation about a guitar in need, but I'm personally committed to returning to the business when Scott has his annual Stonewall Instruments open house. Hope this helps. Be well!

So this review is a little odd, because the first time I went I had an amazing time. The staff was…read moresuper helpful, I wasn't sure what I wanted/needed in a bike and they were patient and answered my questions well and I bought an amazing bike that I love. I didn't feel pressured, I felt like the person was really interested in helping me find something that would suit me. It was a very good buying experience. We came back about a week later to look for a bike for my wife and were helped by a teenage employee. We said our budget was X and he showed us a couple of bikes. My wife tried them both out and liked one. So we said we'd like it. Came inside to buy it and at the register he said "Oh, the price is actually Y", which was 300 dollars over our range! That was really frustrating. I suspect this might just be a training issue, but that was a serious disappointment on that second visit. I will definitely still come back because I liked the shop, but be careful about who you get to help you.

I am an avid cyclist in road, mountain and gravel cycling, and Papa Wheelies has been my go to bike…read moreshop for a number of years. Their customer service and knowledge of all types of riders and bikes is why I choose to patronize them, as well as why I will send all my friends who I try to convince to get into cycling. They truly just want you to get the best bike for yourself. Not the most expensive or the flashiest bike. They know their stuff and they truly just want to match everyone to a bike that will make them happy and give them the best riding experience. Their repair staff is also top notch. I have had some whacky issues with my bikes over the years and they have solved them every single time. Several years ago, I purchased an Orbea mountain bike through them. Unfortunately, there was a manufacturers defect with the dropper post (not Papa Wheelie's fault - a manufacturing issue). The staff at Papa Wheelie's took my bike in and took care of the entire process in dealing with the claim and getting the part from the manufacturer and got me back on my bike quite quickly considering many of the parts were coming in from Spain. I am always team support your local bike shop, but I am specifically team support Papa Wheelies as your lbs, because they truly care. Yes, you can order a bike online direct from manufacturers, but nothing beats the experience of going in and working with the people at Papa Wheelies to figure out what bike works for you and making adjustments to that bike or getting a bike fit to make sure that it is the best possible machine you can ride. It's an investment and Papa Wheelies makes that process 100 times easier. Lastly, I'll add that bikes can be expensive. Tax on expensive things can be expensive. New Hampshire doesn't have taxes. Are you doing the math with me? If you are buying a bike for several thousand dollars in other New England states, you can end up paying several hundred dollars in taxes. You can avoid that by heading on up to beautiful tax free New Hampshire and buying your bike at Papa Wheelies.
