Exeter Music has been a standby for many decades. Rich Bolwes, owner has stocked this small store with most essentials and supported our community especially enriching our youth. The dedicated, knowledgeable & friendly Alex Potvin often holds the fort down in grand form. Alex fixed the action on my bass while I waited. Id bet most music stores would have told me to leave it for a week or so. This store is my stand by and I highly recommend stopping in. If you are not a musician this is a Great place to get a musician a gift! A conversation with them gives Added value! Check out the geographic moments of wildlife behind store. At low tide there are herons, cormorants, bald eagle and sometimes a seal! Thanks Alex read more

Decent selection of stuff, but honestly the employees tend to be rude. I hate that every time I've gone in here it's been crappy. Sucks to say I'll just be going back to Amazon or Music & Arts for my music equipment and supplies, but I'm not gonna support a business with rude employees. As someone who loves supporting small businesses, it's a disappointment to say the least. Prices aren't very good, I get that you can't compete with bigger businesses, but if I'm gonna pay more I at least want a decent experience. read more

Pretty weak shop. Unfortunately, it's tough for places this size to offer quality guitars. They stock the essential accessories but not enough of the higher end strings etc to bring me back. There odd selection of new and used CDs also won't bring me back. Ultimately, they are doing the best they can I believe with what they can offer . My biggest complaint? The guys who work there are jerks. I know a good guitar when I see one. If you don't have what I'm looking for - be honest about it and don't try to pull one over on me. FAIL read more

Used to work for Exeter music when Bob and pat ran it about 20 years ago. Also I was out of work for almost a year and thankfully pat hired me. My good friend Sean taut guitar there as well. Its a great music store with affordable guitars not very much high end guitars but that stuff dosent sell and sits there forever. There's a wide selection of acoustic guitars. And electric like fernandes, at least they did when I was there(one if the best affordable guitars out there!) all the major brands for strings and accessories like sheet music, picks, pickups, ects..one of the best small music stores around! Side note brad delp of Boston when he was alive took his acoustic guitar there the one we've heard on more than a feeling to get it fix and intonation work done read more

Exeter Music has a selection of CDs and sheet music, although not a huge selection. The reason I like Exeter Music is because of the used CDs that they sell. I've found a bunch of good deals on slightly used CDs, and it's a pretty convenient location, right downtown. The guys who own the place are really nice, too. read more

A friend/customer referred me here and I couldn't be happier. Happy to give my money to an independent music store with helpful friendly people. read more

Great local shop to pick up what you need - always in stock on reeds, strings, etc The owners are so nice and helpful, and they appreciate their clientele. Once I was $2 short on cash to buy my sons reeds, and they told me just to get them next time. My son is just starting lessons so I cant personally rate on that, but the reason we are going there is from rave reviews from people we know about the caliber of the teachers That is what a local business is all about, knowing your customer and creating a long time one read more

One of the last dinosaurs -- a small, downtown music shop locally owned, not swallowed by the Music and Arts franchise and not shuttered for lack of business. Ignore the Yelp superstar from Lowell's prior comments about the owners being jerks. The two guys behind the counter who own the shop are known by regulars as decent, honest and friendly. Of course their inventory is microscopic compared to a Guitar Center and probably somewhat more expensive than the online sellers. (And they certainly don't make their living selling CDs.) Exeter Music should be regarded for what it is -- a local community treasure. The last place in our locale where you can get your kid some guitar, drum or piano lessons, buy everyday band instrument supplies, get experienced instrument repair or luthier work done without a huge price tag, browse a decent sheet music inventory, and join a chat about bands or politics if you'd like. The fact that they have only a couple of lesser lines of guitars for sale in-store is the least of the reasons Exeter Music is so valuable. Some of us bring our business there just because the store IS locally owned. For more guitar selection (plus band instrument supplies and service) in a similar store, check Earcraft and Ralph's in downtown Dover -- a 40-mile roundtrip drive. And there's always Daddy's Junky Music (Portsmouth) if you're looking for beaten-up rock gear or a new Strat in a den of teen pretension overseen by clerks who steadfastly call all of us, even those with gray or absent hair, "dude." read more
