I have purchased jewelry from Exeter Jewelers over many years. This is my preferred store even today though I no longer live in Exeter. What's important to me is quality of the products, consistently excellent and the skill of the staff. They stand behind their products and attend to any repairs needed. If you like a ring, they will size it at no cost. The pieces I have purchased have stood up for many years For a special event such as a wedding, one wants the best and that is what Exeter Jewelers provides. I encourage anyone to make their special purchases here. Being a small shop, if there are several customers you may have to wait a bit. Have never been spoken to so disrespectfully by a small business owner before. They guaranteed they would have my wedding ring in time for my wedding, then when it didn't show up on time they continued to lie about where it was, preventing me from finding a replacement on time. Completely rude owner who could not care less about their mistake. Found other customers with similar stories of the owner and staff lying about when rings would be done to make a sale. Unethical and unprofessional business. Update: When I posted an honest review about my experience, the owner's daughter retaliated by leaving a one-star review on my own business, publicly slandering me and calling me "difficult to work with." Yes, you read that right--a jeweler publicly reviewed their customer as retaliation for a truthful review. Imagine thinking that's an appropriate or professional response. If that doesn't speak volumes about how they handle accountability, I'm not sure what does. I'm shocked reading some of these negative reviews! My husband and I came across Exeter Jewelers by chance on Instagram. I saw a piece of jewelry I liked and we took the ride (we live over an hour away) from the very first visit we have been nothing but happy with our experience and our purchases! we have been back multiple times and have bought many beautiful pieces. Very poor customer service. Walked in and was halfway into the store before the woman standing on the other side said hello. We both exchanged greetings gs and she asked what she could do for me. I asked if they could put a battery in my watch. Without even looking up she said they could but I'd have to leave it. I asked how long would they need it and she said 2 days. My first experience here was with Denice (I think she spells it differently..) and she was AMAZING. She is sweet and patient and wonderful and she won me over instantly. The other staff is OK (not super friendly) and Mario (who I believe is the owner?) can be outright grouchy. I picked out an engagement ring with Denice and was so excited for my now husband to have a great experience purchasing it. When he went to buy (what was for us a very big purchase) he was disappointed with the customer service and didn't understand why I had been raving about this place (he hadn't gotten Denice). When we have gone back other times and not gotten her, we've left underwhelmed by the service we receive and considering other shops. They also take quite a long time to do about anything. Other jewelry stores will do something in less than a day that will take Exeter Jewelers a week to turn around. Overall, their products seem good, but their customer service (minus Denice who is AMAZING) is convincing us to drive to a great little place we found in Raymond (Jambs) for jewelry service. read more

I dropped off an elastic bead bracelet that needed to be restrung and 2 different earrings that needed the clasp arm reattached, one was gold the other white gold. Exeter Jewelers said it would take 2 weeks and I asked if possible I'd like them sooner as I had travel plans; they said they'd make a note of it. Well they didn't accommodate the quicker turn around...okay. But when I went to pick my pieces up, they charged me $85! So restringing the bracelet beads on another piece of elastic was $35 and fixing the clasp on the gold earring was $50! The second earring they returned unfixed and said they don't work on sterling silver, I told them it was white gold and she didn't even respond to that information.Honestly borderline rude attitude. Interestingly I had almost the identical work done at a jeweler in Portsmouth for a 3rd of the cost and they fixed 4 pieces. AND they were too pleasant. I truly try and support local business, but I've scratched Exeter Jewlers off my list. I feel like I was overcharged significantly, just given lip service and shown no real concern for the fact that I questioned the price and the lack of knowledge about white gold. My (now) husband and I were shopping for wedding bands and stopped in here before another wedding-related meeting nearby. I found exactly what I was looking for at a very reasonable price...walked away to "think about it" and walked back in 5 minutes later to purchase. The family that runs the shop is knowledgeable and honest. My engagement ring was purchased elsewhere and needed to be resized, but other jewelers said the setting was too complex and instead recommended beads. I went that route but hated the way it felt and how it sat on my finger. Mario looked at it and didn't hesitate to say that it could be resized. Just a few days later, I had a beautifully re-set ring fitting perfectly on my finger. He takes so much pride in his craft and it shows in the end result. read more

Recently I had a 100 year old white gold ring and band resized, prongs fixed, and cleaned by Mario, the owner. When I went to pick the ring up, I tried the band on. It was not big enough because of the weird shape of my fingers. Mario immediately worked on it with great results. This very antiquated ring passed down from grandmother, mother, older sister who recently died and now to me is now stunningly beautiful. Thank you so much Mario for being there on UFO day in Exeter. HOLY COW. What a mess. This experience is one for the record books, folks. Let me start by saying that I consider my Southern self to be a friendly and patient person. I am somewhat new to the seacoast and was looking for a jeweler who could "re-dip" my white gold engagement ring and wedding band, as well as fix one of my prongs. On my first visit there, the rather un-friendly person behind the counter informed me that my rings were not a great quality and not going to last very long, maybe 10-15 years max. She said there's no such thing as a ring lasting longer than that. Ummm, has she heard of family heirlooms before? Pretty sure they last for generations. This is where it gets good... when I returned to pick up my rings, not only had the bent prong not been fixed yet (annoying), but they LOST ONE OF THE DIAMONDS IN MY RING. Good thing I checked! They never pointed this out to me, I had to bring it to their attention that it was missing. They just shrugged their shoulders like it was no big deal and said "they'd look for it". I had asked them to check my prongs, and I guess they didn't do that because who returns a ring with a diamond visibly missing? Crazy. I understand that mistakes happen, but to show no remorse or manners whatsoever is a big problem. When I called a few days later to see if the rings were ready, the owner was rude and unapologetic about the situation that they caused. Shocker. Of the 3/3 times I had to go into the store, they were so rude to me and clearly didn't care about my business. At no point did anyone ever apologize for any of this. Mind: blown. Way to run a business. If you want to keep your diamonds, take your money elsewhere. read more

My fiancé (before he was my fiancé, obviously) brought my Aunt's diamond engagement ring here to be restored and re-sized to give to me as my engagement ring. They did an absolutely fabulous job on my ring. I couldn't believe it was the same ring. They fixed the setting because the main diamond was falling out, polished it and re-sized it. I bought my fiancee's engagement ring there after a referral from a coworker of mine. Even though I work in Boston, I made the drive up to Exeter after speaking with the owner, Mario, on the phone. He picked out a diamond with the same size, cut, clarity rating as one I picked out at a jeweler in Boston; but his was a better color and roughly the same price. But he's in NH so it was effectively $500 cheaper. I checked on BlueNile once I looked at the diamond and verified the fact that I was receiving a good deal. He then made me a custom setting at again, a very reasonable price. He works with you and you get a real sense that your business and, more importantly, the impression of how beautiful the ring is to your future fiance, is very important to him and the store. Overall I was very impressed during that overwhelming experience and will be returning for our wedding rings. read more

Folks on a seacoast forum recommended Exeter Jewelers, and they fixed it in just a few weeks for well under $200. They cleaned it, too. It looks gorgeous and is running again. Exeter Jewelers does have some beautiful pieces. However, if you're looking for repair work or help with a special item, look elsewhere. On two different occasions, when I went to have a simple repair/resize, I was told that it would require a major & expensive overhaul ($1,500-$2,000). Later, I was told that the jeweler would "never allow" me to wait while they made a minor adjustment, that I would "just have to trust him" with my mother's precious ring. I've never seen such a reaction from other jewelers. They couldn't find a single gold bangle bracelet to order for my daughter's 10th birthday. I was told that a repair of a an antique watch crystal would be "very expensive." It was $60. I've given up on them. read more
