    Upgrade to a classic

Third Floor Guitars came through for me again. This time Domenic upgraded my Gretsch Electromatic Jet to take it from a budget guitar to a high end guitar. This guitar is one that I've wanted for years. It's the closest that you can come to the Gretsch Duo Jet that George Harrison played during the Beatles early days in Hamburg and the Cavern Club. Gretsch does have a tribute version available, but it's cost prohibitive and there are some aspects of it that I didn't want anyway. So I decided to purchase the Gretch budget guitar, the Electromatic Jet, and give it to Domenic as a blank canvas to do some art. And art he did. He swapped out the stock pickups for a pair of TV Jones Classics, Installed a Bigsby B3 Tremolo with a Towner Down Tension Bar, swapped out the crappy plastic nut for a tusq nut, swapped out the pots for all new CTS pots and swapped out the jack for a Switchcraft Jack. It sounds fantastic, it looks vintage, and best of all, it stays in tune even with a Bigsby! All of this for a third of what I would have paid for an off the rack Duo Jet. Domenic is definitely a master craftsman!! I highly recommend that you give him your buisness. You will not be disappointed.

Telecaster assembled by Third Floor Guitars and stratocaster set up perfectly! Thanks for your hard work on the "twins", Dom!

5-star custom set ups and repairs from Third Floor Guitars! Love his work and his great customer service. Dom has done work for me multiple times and every time he excels at what he does. He has my business for life. My guitars have never been so well cared for. He listens to what you want, offers superb advice, and works hard to achieve your perfect set up, repair, or customization. He's done a great set up on my Stratocaster, repaired the heck out of my acoustic, and built me a Telecaster when I provided most of the parts. He does detailed work and asks many questions up front to understand what the job is and will call you with any additional questions. He's the best!

He needed to adjust the frame and researched what glue Martin uses on their composite material. His pricing was more than fair, the turn around time was less than 2 weeks, and he even restrung and ensured the overall structure of the instrument was in good shape. It sounded and played better than it had in years. He discussed the problem with the bridge with me at length, and stated that if the quote would be exceeded, he would call (the actual price fell well below the top quote value). I'm definitely bringing my guitars back to Equilibrium for all of my repair and check-up needs.

Most recently, he replaced a licensed Floyd Rose bridge on my Jackson DK2S with the real one. He also changed the bridge pick-up. Before, he also helped with a similar bridge replacement on my Japanese Jackson SL3 and replaced all pick-ups with a new set. The work he does is amazing. When I leave my guitar with him, I know I'm going to get great service. But what I most appreciate is the communication. He always contacts me to let me know what's happening and if he runs into an issue, he'll always come to you with alternatives so you can choose what you want to do. I'm a happy customer and I will definitely be back whenever my guitars need some professional attention.

Five or so calls later and I got to talking with Scott at Naked Guitar Repair. He came off as a good dude who was really comfortable with guitars and confident in his work, so even though I had found a cheaper option, I drove over to Madbury to meet Scott. His shop is located in the same lot as a landscaping business and is entered through the side door under the green awning along the right-hand side of the building. The space is refreshingly unfinished, with tools lining the perimeter workbench spaces and guitars in various states of build hanging along the walls. The real look of the place was the first of a few indications that I had chosen the right repair shop for my old Yamaha. Scott looked up from his work and received me warmly into his workshop. He deftly inspected the guitar, played a Spanish riff to check its original condition, and concluded that it was in great shape, definitely worth cleaning up. Throughout the "interview" he was really friendly and shared a great deal of information about his history with guitars; during this conversation I also came to learn that Scott builds electric guitars from scratch under the name Stonewall Instruments in this same space (another indication that my Yamaha was in good hands). He was even willing to work with me on the price of the work. I picked up the guitar a few days later, and, needless to say, it sparkled and sang. I'll try to include a photo of it with this post, but you should just take my word for it -- the guitar glows like it was touched by a experienced perfectionist and is matched by the sweetest tone, new strings tight and sharp. Can't be more happy with the "upgrade" Scott was able to bring out of her. Not only do I recommend Naked Guitar Repair to anyone looking for a honest conversation about a guitar in need, but I'm personally committed to returning to the business when Scott has his annual Stonewall Instruments open house. Hope this helps. Be well!
