The range of music you hear them teaching demonstrates their commitment to the student - not their own interests. I wish my parents sent me to this kind of place growing up instead of learning to read music for "Mary Had a Little Lamb". Bad enough for piano, imagine it for a kid that wanted to learn rock guitar. The space was recently spruced up and has a nice vibe. If you are interested in lessons for guitar, bass, uke, drums, piano and a few other instruments this place is definitely worth checking out.

I told the store owner what I was looking for, and he showed me what was in my price range. He also very kindly told me that I was welcome to try any of the guitars--even though I very clearly could not afford them! I thought that was cool! He left me alone to play the guitars. He progressed very fast but by the end of the year it was a chore for him to play. We eventually stopped taking lessons and I was at a loss. I wanted him to take classes and explore and grow his love for music, but I didn't want to sacrifice form and technique for fun. So what's a parent to do? I wanted it all or nothing. So, we went a couple years with nothing. And then I stumbled across an ad for Jingjing. She asked what we were looking to do in the lessons and told us she could mold the class into what we wanted it to be. My main objective was for him to learn and be challenged, expand his love for the piano, and have fun. I don't have an agenda - there isn't a concert that he needs to know a song for. I just want the lesson to flow and she's happy to accommodate that. However, if I did have an agenda and timeline I wanted to meet, I feel she would accommodate that as well. My son is now 9, is beyond inquisitive, and quite a bit fidgety. None of this seems to faze her. He asks non-stop questions about the strings and mechanics of the piano. She actually opened up the top of the piano to show him the strings and explained what happens between hitting the key and hearing the sound. For my son, this was HUGE! She follows his lead, answers his questions and then, without him even realizing, redirects him back to the lesson. Miraculous! He really enjoys classical music but Jingjing is open to playing whatever style they prefer. On his second class he asked her if she could teach him Moonlight Sonata and she smiled and agreed. There was no doubt or hesitation - just belief that he could. She watches his technique, points out nuances in the music, challenges him, applauds him, encourages him to write his own songs and has him practicing!! In addition to private one on one teaching they offer ensemble classes as well. The studio is clean, modern and has a great decor. The whole aura/vibe is laid-back and casual. I really like that Greg the owner stays involved with the teaching and clearly has a passion for what he does. They are very flexible about scheduling and the prices are terrific. I've personally attended other schools and had other teachers, but none delved into theory and the history of whatever music it was you were learning. In addition they offer video recordings of your lesson, meaning you can revisit everything you just learned by popping it into your computer. I had a passion for music and I just really hoped I could find a way to make it all work out with the rest of life. MP surely facilitated that. I started with group lessons and after several months transitioned to private lessons which better fit my work schedule. I have loved the entire journey, having had a handful of talented instructors along the way, each who taught me something I didn't know. I joined as a beginner pianist and in a couple weeks I will play a more complicated, 8 page song than I had ever imagined - I can truly reflect on how much my I've grown as a piano player while at MP. Alyssa, the founder, has cultivated an amazing community. She is always there for you when you need help. Rarely, if the schedule is not working or an instructor doesn't fit your personality, she'll quickly find the time to talk things through with you and suggest a solution to get things back on track for you. Learning an instrument isn't always easy, but you can always count on her being your biggest cheerleader on the musical journey to reach your goals. The Happy Hour performance nights happen every two months. These are a highlight of the MP experience. These evenings are so inspiring, whether you are a spectator or performing. I find that wanting to perform at Happy Hour and share my music motivates me to practice almost daily and continue to grow as a musician. You meet a number of interesting people who may just have started learning or may be superstars continuing to take lessons. Plus, the studio environment fosters your overall musical journey - how cool is it to spend your evening taking a lesson, while there are 4 other private lessons and a group session happening on the same floor. First, the person who connected with me about discussing what I need was going to call me on the phone but was inconsistent about scheduling. Then, although everybody was polite (if you discount my instructor asking me "no, but where are you *really* from"), the instructor I was matched with definitely did not start with where I was at and imposed their own perspective and agenda on me for how we would be learning because it's what they were familiar with. Also, during the lesson, the space was loud because people could be overheard singing. So, it was very difficult to hear the instructor and concentrate. Looking back, I think the person that I initially connected with to discuss what I was hoping for probably just wanted to make a sale instead of being straight up that perhaps what they had to offer did not match my needs.

I'm glad I went here.... Mr. Gentile picked up the piano before I got to the place that was giving it away and was at my house before me, ready to get it delivered. In and out he was done in 15 minutes. A few days later he came in to tune it. He voiced some concerns about the model and the keys while educating us on how to take care of it (it was a free piano) and left us with it sounding great. A few month later we had to call him over again to tune it once again as the keys weren't playing properly. He came by and and spent time getting the piano right. This man contacted me soon after saying this piano had been keeping him up at night about it's performance AND that he had found us a replacement..... who does that? Mr. Gentile came by again with an already tuned piano and replaced our previous one... by HIMSELF! I don't know how old he is but this guy is unstoppable. I have a lot of respect for Mr. Gentile's underrated profession and his professionalism. If you need a piano mover or tuner, CALL HIM. The man knows what he is doing and is a charm to boot.

I bought an instrument from them on Reverb…read more I even agreed to buy a used gig bag they had on their site for $20, since the electric sitar that I purchased didn't have one The next morning, an hour before the store opens, "Paul" tells me to hold off on buying the gig bags because they can't find the instrument that I bought! He suggested I put in for a refund. I was not going to be the one to break the deal and I told him I was not interested in a refund, I wanted the instrument they sold me and was bought and paid for. A short time later, Paul tells me they looked all over and can't find it and sent me a refund anyway. They had the instrument when they took pictures of it and posted it on a Reverb two months prior! It was an oddball Electric Sitar/Guitar Did they think it might be rare or a prototype? Did someone offer them more money? Did they keep it for themselves? Did an employee steal it? I asked them to check with all of their employees and any surveillance footage, sales records, etc. If I had a music store and an instrument was missing, I would be raising heck! Especially something already sold, bought and paid for by a customer! I will never deal with this place again and I hope that no one does. Do so at your own risk!

I haven't regretted it. Nora is not only an incredibly competent vocalist in her own right, but also a superb teacher -- she has a warm and personable demeanour while also professional. She works with what her students are most passionate about singing or playing and takes a holistic approach for using one's instrument -- I definitely wasn't expecting to stretch or learn about the anatomy of the throat at the beginning, but it has factored into my technique improving dramatically. She also encourages visualising whatever sticks best in a student's mind for finding the right placement and sound. I'd recommend her to anybody. I imagine she'd be great with kids, too.
