I was visiting Denver and needed some watercolor supplies in a hurry right after Christmas. I needed them delivered because I had no transportation from the other side of town. I called and got a very helpful person, who answered all my questions about what they had and how much it would cost. Obviously knew exactly what they were talking about and made a very helpful suggestion. They also quickly figured out that I knew exactly what I wanted and was equally knowledgeable. Their delivery person wasn't available at that point, which they apologized profusely for, even though it was due to a multi-day blizzard. Then said they'd put the order in right then, and have the delivery guy call me first thing next day. He did. And he got it to me before noon. Everyone I talked to was polite, very knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. I WILL be going back here. I highly recommend both the quality and availability of their supplies (right after Christmas!) and the professional, helpful quality of their staff. I've been in here four separate times now trying to resolve an issue with the paint department and every time the lack of decent customer service has just been garbage. This statement applies to every employee working in the paint department. The poor attitude alone is bad enough but the unwillingness to help or offer any solutions when it's their job to do so is a joke. They can't even call to provide a follow up on an order when they promised to do so. I went here because the ratings were great but this is absolutely NOT my experience here. I had to call and track down my order and even that was a major inconvenience to the employee on the phone. My advice, don't spend your time and money here for poor customer service. We've been working with Shane for several months now and it's been absolutely fantastic. Shane and his team at Guiry's are incredibly knowledgeable and willing to help. If you have any questions about painting and which products to use for a specific project these guys and gals have years of experience and can nearly always point you in the right direction. They say the mark of a great company is not in the everyday, but more in how it handles complaints. This place sucks at that. They added too much colorant to the primer, never suggesting it would be compromised and then after the fact denied that too much colorant will compromise primer and ruin the paint job. Verified with Kilz that primer can't be tinted a deep color without compromising it. Secondly two people, first a paint technician an second his precoached manager said you cannot paint a wood deck when right on the can it is an approved application. It doesn't matter that I've been painting my deck for 40 years now or that I've been remodeling commercially for 26+ years and have a longstanding account with them, I obviously didn't know what I was talking about. Love this store, love this staff. I'd like to think that I know this store better than anyone else, as I frequent this establishment religiously every week for green poster board and a large black pilot marker. I require no assistance from the staff during my shopping experience and the associates are aware that I am self-sufficient and often times they will see me arrive and fetch the marker in question from behind the locked bulletproof shatterproof theft proof glass door. They do this so that I may simply grab the items on my way up to the register and go about my daily business as usual, I greatly appreciate this more than they know. They always offer a simple and polite hello, or whimsical "you again?" Which of course is all tongue-in-cheek which I also appreciate as they know that this type of response for me is both welcome and much appreciated. I am happy to, and would rather, use the store supplies to cut my own posterboard in half but I also understand that at times because of store policy and management being in house they on occasion need to cut it for me with their wall paper/glass cutter which, admittedly, in the wrong hands could certainly take off a limb quite easily. Even the staff in the paint department, with whom I rarely if ever interact with in order to retrieve any item for purchase have always been very nice and welcoming whenever I see them. I am never given a hard time for taking a few paint sticks (although I have offered to pay for them the number of times, But I think that continued offers would be a bit insulting) they do however offer to ring me up if the line at the other counter is too long. All in all everyone seems quite pleasant and it is clear that they are over worked but remain positive at all times and leave any personal problems at home where they belong. There is however one rather portly woman who appears to be in some sort of admin department, as she has her own desk but never appears to be doing anything of any value for the company. However, I cannot confirm her work ethic or value brought to the company as I am unaware of her position, but can only say that of all the times I have visited this establishment I have never once been greeted or had assistance offered by this woman. Nearly every time I am in the store she is heating up or devouring some concoction brought to work in a clear Tupperware container and recently re-heated in the microwave. Although I'm sure it's very delicious as first glance at her figure would indicate. However, her in difference is welcome since I am generally in a hurry to get in, get out, and get on with my day. So as far as I'm concerned she does a fantastic job. Again let me say that I love the staff of the store, all of them, they are everything I could ask for in a crew who helps me on a weekly basis. A huge compliment however goes out to everyone in the Art department, as they have had to deal with one or two of my tantrums thrown due to a lack of a particular color of paper or inventory of a particular pen. I am updating My review as Amber from customer service called me today and My order was delivered 20 minutes prior to her calling. Only one person (Amber) is shipping out internet orders so she is swamped. She did say that an initial email was sent verifying my order however, it never came through. I appreciate that she called and even more thrilled that my order arrived as its a product that I cannot find anymore as its discontinued. Glad I stocked up. My review is based on my non-existent online order which was placed 6 days ago. According to the website, they ship within two days of receiving the order. I haven't even received an email notifying me that they received the order, though they obviously did since money was taken from the account I paid with. No word, no shipping notification, nada, nothing. When I tried calling, I got an answering machine and sending emails to inquire about the order, go unanswered. Never will they get another order from me. I do not recommend for online ordering. read more

I went here today to support this business by spending my dollar with them, unfortunately the girl at the front was too busy on her phone to help me actually purchase anything. When I asked for help accessing the spray paint I was told to find someone I've never met before by name. She didn't move, she didn't offer to help me find this person, she didn't even point in a general direction. It was equal parts frustrating and laughable. I've been going to Guirys since The 70's and am a regular art supply customer. Along with supplies (and a home paint/decor section - which I haven't explored at all) Guiry's has some whimsical gift types of items for the Creatives. I love the convenient location, super helpful staff and some good art supply sales. As an artist it is refreshing to know that many of the sales staff are artists and are very knowledgeable about their merchandise, along with the art process. Guirys carries all the major brands (Daniel Smith!). If they don't have it, the staff strives to get it and promptly calls when it's in. NEW LOCATION !!!! Guiry's has a new location in its own building on 2121 South Colorado Boulevard. If you liked it before, you'll love it now. They have a wonderful space full of light. The arts and crafts section is HUGE and every aisle gives you ideas for new projects. It's also alot easier to find things. The selection of pens and mechanical pencils makes me weep. We just painted the inside of the house again this summer and got all our paint from Guiry's. The higher quality paint makes it alot easier to apply! Some ladies love diamonds and pearls and all sort of platinum goodies, but this girl gets a twinkle in her eye when I head up to the handmade paper display on the second floor of this store. Going into this store is like how Charlie felt walking into the first room in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory (hell, it's probably how I would have felt walking into Wonka's factory too). First there's a few overwhelming moments where you fear you may not be able to take in all of the glistening paint swatches in front of you. Then you stop, regroup, and vow to work your way from the top to the bottom. The great thing about the Guiry's on Colorado is that it looks somewhat small from the outside, but it has 3 floors of goodies on the inside. The floors are also very well organized with different artistic sections clearly defined. I've also found the staff here to be pretty helpful and knowledgeable, which can be a godsend when you are a novice trying to determine the right kind of brush cleaner for oil paints. They will gladly take you through the department, or store, if need be and help you get all the supplies you will need to start. If you are looking for a place to go for great art supplies that's several steps up from Michael's, Guiry's is definitely the place to shop. read more

I came in to buy an adult coloring book(not a kids) for a Christmas present for my wife and I ended up finding a great book for water color painting. It didn't end there. I asked a couple questions about possibly getting a water color kit and had such great service from Ryan that, before I knew it, I was happily spending over $100 dollars for a bunch of great supplies. He explained each piece of needed supply to make a great starter kit for my wife including not letting me buy items that I didn't need and kept me from overspending on the items I did need. Their selection of art supplies is vast. It puts poor Michael's to shame -- better breadth of offerings, more selection within those offerings and? Better prices! Which kind of surprised me as it's a specialty store. I didn't peruse the home painting wares, but they looked ample as well. I went in to purchase a tracing pad and some pencils. The store was large, and had a vast selection of drawing and other art supplies. Surprisingly, the items I purchased were reasonably priced. Unfortunately the good news stops there. As I Approached the check-out counter, there was only 1 customer in front of me. The check-out merchant or machine couldn't process the payment for the customer in front of me, and the women working behind the counter, not only didn't know how to resolve it, but completely panicked. PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS COMPANY! I've had so many customer service issues with them I can't believe they are still in business. First I bought a can of pant after spending several grand on paint and they didn't out the lid on correctly and on the drive home the can tipped over and the lid came off. Paint went all over my new car. When I called to complain and ask for them to pay for the cleaning bill they told me the paint can was a design issue and this happens often! Are you kidding me? They were rude and did not want to resolve the issue. I wound up calling corporate and while they were a bit more understanding they still weren't trying really fix the situation. They wanted an estimate before committing to anything. Again lousy customer service. Next they told me I could drop off the paint cans at their store to be recycled. When I just went hey told me they were full and couldn't accept anymore paint cans. What the hell?! Why is the company still in business?! Please buy your Benjamin Moore paints from other stores in town who don't have attitudes and are customer friendly. read more

She is timely with her communication, has a great eye for different spaces, and most importantly, she listens. April takes the time to really understand what your goals are and executing them in a timely manner. She's also budget friendly when helping you finish projects. We went there today looking for various colors of paint to paint some rocks. The young lady who first helped us was great and directed us to the paint department. We went to that counter and stood there for more than five minutes while four or five employees milled behind and around the counter - some were helping other customers but at no point did anybody even say something as simple as "We'll be right with you." or "Have you been helped yet?". It was our first visit and this place really needs help in terms of customer service skills. We won't be back. read more

On two separate occasions I've had bad experiences while waiting for customer service. This has only occurred at the Colorado Blvd store, not at any other. I was waiting in line, it was not busy and no one was making eye contact. Finally a regular came in and was taken ahead of everyone there. Those of us in line looked at each other, I put my order back and walked out. A few months later I went in again, and experienced bad customer service again and that was it for me. It was a sudden reminder of why I hadn't been back in a few months. If there were 2.5 stars I probably would have posted that because not all my experiences there have been bad - probably 2 out of 6. Now when I do go to Guiry's, I only go to the downtown location. They are consistent and helpful. read more

One star is actually too much to give to this business. My wife went to buy some paints and got injured from tripping uneven floor. Nobody cared to ask how she was...all they cared was to clean up spilled paint from the incident. One of their employees also said this kind of incident happened before in the past. The store manager was very unhappy and made sure that no employees would go help my wife by saying "WE WILL NOT HELP YOU CARRY ANYTHING TO YOUR CAR". My wife walked away limping. We are considering a legal action. read more

I went there yesterday to look for a book that the other Guiry's in downtown looked up in their computer and said would be at the Colorado Blvd store. I asked for help in finding the books and was directed to that section. I looked for the book and was having trouble finding it so asked two clerks (who were chatting) for help. I let them know that I was looking for a book on composition that the other store looked up and said would be there. The clerk said that what she had was on the shelf. I asked her what section it might be in as there wasn't one on composition. She then started explaining to me that there probably wasn't a book on composition, but composition would be included in basic art books. I asked her if she could look it up in the computer and she said that it wouldn't be there unless the word composition was in the title. I explained that I was at the other Guiry's and they indeed said there was a book with composition in the title. She then complained about the other store not calling her and resentfully went off to look it up in her computer. She eventually found the book. Her unwillingness to give me any kind of help in the first place and her condescension and then eventual resentful help was way less than good service. read more
