While I had initially hired a fence & gate contractor to stain & seal my new fence & gate that they built on Fri 10/20, when that deal/job fell through (see that Yelp review), I was left in a lurch to find a different fence stain, and hire a new contractor. After extensive hours spent this weekend - Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday afternoon learning far more than I ever wanted or intended to learn about the differences between wood types (cedar vs. else) and fence stains (water-based vs. oil-based) at Home Depot & Sherwin Williams, as well as through my mom's real estate friend, as well as her daughter in Boise, ID, who worked for a fence stainer, and her consulting with her former boss, after talking to nearly ~10 people, only Zeke was able to quickly, clearly, and concisely cut through the decision-making process for me, and guide me to a custom stain selection. Lessons Learned: 1. Water-based stains last approximately 3-5 years, so if I had gone with the Behr initial water-based samples from Home Depot, I'd be back in this same position relatively soon. Do not want this! Luckily, Home Depot offered to allow me to return those samples, which I did yesterday. 2. Zeke helped me understand the difference between transparent vs. semi-transparent, and another third type (which I cannot recall) within the modified-oil based stains, since this is the type Colorado allows paint stores to sell, due to environmental reasons. 3. Once we narrowed this down, Zeke helped custom color match the photo I posted here, as we tried & tested various options on the cedar pickets I purchased & sawed into sections at Home Depot vs. testing directly on my new fence & gate. ---- If all goes well, I should have this custom stain applied to my brand new fence & gate tomorrow, by my second contractor, who confirmed the job today via text, and if - for some odd reason - that deal/job falls through, I have 3 other contractors available & on stand-by. The young woman who first waited on me wisely and courageously acknowledged that she had not worked there very long, wasn't sure what the best product would be, and sought out another associate with more experience to help me. I got my paint and immediately put my helper to work. Unfortunately the product that had been provided was not getting the job done. I took a few photos of the problem and went back the next day to see what might be done. Assistant manager Andrew Kelly took one look at my photos and acknowledged that I had been given the wrong product for the job. Andrew provided me with 10 gallons of the correct product at no cost and discounted the new topcoat material that I would be using. The job finished up quickly with the right products and looks fantastic! How this issue was handled speaks volumes about the integrity of the staff at this Sherwin Willliams store. I love this place. The staff here is so friendly. For example, once we stopped in from a walk with…read moremy dog to pick up some paint swatches. One of us stayed outside with the dog, and when the owner noticed, he insisted we bring our dog inside to browse with us. They will give you little 2oz samples of any paint color you want. I've since found that most Benjamin Moore places only offer a small selection pre-mixed in these sample sizes. Also, they carry Aura paint which, while expensive at $55+ a gallon, is well worth the price because you usually only need one coat of it to cover the wall. We've averaged about 50%-100% more coverage than regular paint with it and the extra quality and pigmentation make the paint seem to almost change while you are looking at it from different angles. Also, it's washable in any sheen and dries very quickly with very little of the common obnoxious odor associated with most paints. Please support this very cool local shop, they'll treat you right and they deserve your business.

I go in for art supplies but they also have paint and home decorating areas in store. The art supply area has many types of paper and brushes and a wide selection of different types of paint. I use leather paint and they carry Jacquard, however I do wish they would carry Angeles. They have all types of papers in an array of sizes and materials, and every kind of paint brush you could want, so head on in! There are only a few parking spots on days that it's busy, however that's only happened to me a few times. Overall, great store. Great products. Great staff. We've used Natura before and it was great (zero VOC!) and we just painted our kitchen with Aura -- also superb. It coats extremely well. Now we're working on the exterior of our house, and the Low Lustre exterior paint has been great too. Forrest did a custom color match to our existing front porch paint and it was perfect. Woo! He has often informed me of new products and sundries available that I wasn't aware of. The store is clean and welcoming, and his assistant, Heather, is great too. Forrest almost always has his dog with him at the store, she's a friendly rescued Greyhound. I have never had a bad paint mix from them (I am a regular customer) And it's a lifesaver for me that they carry samples in just about all of the Ben Moore colors. Some places that carry Ben Moore only have the limited palette of factory produced sample sizes, but Forest supplements those with the remaining colors. It's such a great feature.
