Needed to do some touch-up of a wall, so went to the big-box store where the previous owner had acquired the original paint. They "color-matched" it for me but it was not even close. Had a little hiccup but the staff at Sherwin-Williams on Colfax (sorry I didn't get your names...but one of you owns a dog or two) did a great job in rectifying the situation. I used "Air-Purifying" (replacing Harmony) in flat for the ceiling and satin on the walls and it looks amazing. I painted the space in Alabaster and love it. Sherwin-Williams, can I tell you how easy it's been working with James. I could tell from the 1st store visit that he was knowledgeable and enjoyed his job. On the second store visit he showed understanding & patience for what has been a confusing issue with a specific/special color of contractors paint. I believe it is a mistake on my end, but yet James has spent time problem solving the issue with me and figured out how to get me exactly what I need. He even told me verbatim "We will make it right". On a recent problem solving phone call James was yet again kind and helpful in fixing my issue and made sure to tell me to let him know if it wasn't a match. I had to find a matching color after repairing a wall damage. Had no idea what color it was. Went to this store and one of the employees helped me pick out some samples off of the picture I took. As pictures are inaccurate, she advised me to get a piece of wall and bring it to store. So I went back to the store and they ran it through some machine and custom mixed the color in just a few minutes! It was a perfect matching color on my wall! As expected, and to my delight, the store was easy to find, parking lot well maintained, inside was well-stocked, easy to navigate. The bright spots are always the staff - this team helped me make a great choice and they worked out how to get me a bit of a discount off the full retail price. Very poor customer service. I went in last week to buy paint for painting the interior of our first floor. I am new to painting and had questions. I was treated very poorly by the person "helping me." He told me he wasn't the "ring leader" and I needed to go look at the advisory board. It was a really hard week for me personally, I just knew I needed to paint. I walked in and was instantly helped by Anthony. Came in with a small patch job needing some touch up paint. James couldn't be bothered to walk 25 feet to the patch swatch's and assist me with selecting something. Took probably 50 different paint swatches home, narrowed it down to four and had to buy all four paint samples to get the right color matches. Just had higher expectations based on their advertisements noting willingness to provide assistance. Basically customer service was right on track with the Home Depot. For some reason a 4th of July tradition has been to paint something in the house, this year is no different. I am painting and remodeling our fireplace all by myself. Normally I would not Yelp the paint store but I had a great experience at Sherwin William after visiting their competitor across the street. Quick background: I walked into the empty competitor with a vase I am using as a color inspiration. After looking at the color chips for a bit, both sales people followed me around picking out unbelievably bad matches. When I asked if I could match the vase exactly, I thought I had been transported into Day of the Dead. So I rushed out of the store and across the street. I walked into Sherwin Williams and had to wait just a bit as this store was busy. With vase in hand and an inspiration for my fireplace, I was professionally guided into primer and paint choices for a brick and plaster fireplace and when it came time for color, my vase was color scanned and the most perfect shade of cobalt blue was created for my mantle. Don't waste your time on Colfax choosing between paint stores, just start your next paint project at Sherwin Williams. I've learned a thing or two about painting your home. #1 is buy the most expensive supplies you can afford, because even though you can't tell the difference in the store, once you start using it, the cheap roller starts to leave fuzz, that cheap brush leaves bristles, and that cheap drop cloth rips, defeating the whole purpose. Usually, you get what you pay for. The same applies to paint. Cheap paint won't cover well, it seperates easily, and you end up having to apply twice or thrice as many coats, and end up spending more time and money than if you had just gotten the quality stuff to begin with. Sherwin-Williams paint is great to work with. Awesome coverage. And the employees here usually know something about paint. I really appreciated it when I told them I was painting a gray wall red, and they told me that I didn't need a primer. If they had recommended one, I would have bought it, so they actually missed out on a sale. But they were totally right, the existing gray made an ideal tinted primer and they saved me a huge amount of time and a bit of cash, too. Very cool. Only downsides: their hours, which seem to be meant for professionals, not homeowners, and we bought a few gallons there before anyone told us about their preferred card, which saves you something like 10% on every purchase. So if they don't mention it to you, ask for it! Especially if, like me, you have a whole house to paint. read more

Painting sucks. It's one of life's necessary evils like moving. And I've done my share of painting having owned three places in the last two years. If you were wondering, it doesn't get any easier, sucks worse the more you do it. Which is why I really don't want to dick around. I don't know how they find these people, but the sales reps at Sherwin Williams know their stuff. My favorite is Austin, who doesn't know that I know who he is. Anyway, Austin and his buddies are extremely knowledgeable re: paint finishes, how to remove wallpaper, what brush to use for what...all the crap you need to know if you're painting. We are getting ready to move out of our apartment and we have some nail holes to fill and paint, as well as a few baseboards to go over. After finally tracking down the paint codes, I find that they were original from Sherwin Williams. Now mind you, I am not overly handy, and am truly don't enjoy the painting process in general, so I was not really looking forward to this experience at all. I started by calling this S.W. location and asking if they could mix up the paint before I arrived. Not a problem! They wanted to know the paint #, sheen, and how much paint i needed, and it would be ready within 30 minutes! NICE! About an hour later we show up, pick up some paint brushes, some masking tape, and our paint. Easy, painless, and the guy that was working there was exceptionally friendly and helpful. My wife called the store to find out what could be done to modify the color of paint that she bought. The person on the phone was very friendly and told her that they could accommodate her request and suggested she come to the store. She then went to the store and dealt with someone who was borderline rude, suggested that another store might do things differently, suggested that they couldn't help her because of potential liability and then, when she said that she spoke to someone from that store (Colfax store) reluctantly agreed to help, but was adamant about adding only one particular tint. Seems like this store is great if everything works great, but not if you need any kind of consultative customer assistance. Ben Moore and even Home Depot are great, so not understanding how this kind of customer interaction works for them. read more

Not realizing the time Sunday, I only had 15 minutes to drive there before store closed.
