"I MEAN, WHAT IS A TIME LOOP? LIKE GROUNDHOG DAY?" (Fringe)
During our exploration of the Grünerløkka district of Oslo, we were lured to the outdoor restaurant of Grünerhaven by the scenic view of the surrounding Olaf Ryes Plass park. If only we had looked at Yelp reviews first (*gasp*), we would have been warned about the wait times.
If the spacetime continuum existed as a racetrack loop, we would have lapped eternity several times waiting to be greeted by a server, and then later for our lunch to arrive.
We sat so long that we began to wonder what year it was, and if we were transported there via TARDIS, Portkey, or Morrissey-style astral projection. We found this puzzling, as we were the only party ordering sustenance other than beer at that time.
When the menu finally materialized, we noted that it was basic and eco-friendly, offering three burger options, a salad, and a couple fish entrees.
Several of us selected the Norwegian salmon with herb cream sauce, an appropriate choice as our first meal in Norway. Others ordered the fish soup and Ceasar salad. We were all pleased with our meals, those of us with the salmon finding it rich and moist, flaking elegantly without crumbling.
Originality: Definitely not light years ahead of the competition creatively, though food doesn't have to be complicated to taste great.
Price: Our bill came to 1,250K for 6 people. 159k for Caesar salad, 195K for the salmon.
Wait Time: 1 Buck Rogers "leap" year
In my opinion this restaurant is best experienced as a rest stop to enjoy a Hansa Pilsner or two and people watch from the semi-comfort of cushioned wicker chairs or couch. Overall I give it 3.2 sonic screwdrivers.
