First time here but not the last. I have to dig deep to find anything negative to say. That would be the wait to be seated that was only about 15 minutes. I think that is a testament to how good and how popular they are. Everyone was very genuinely nice offering great service. Our meals were cooked to order and were served hot and fresh and in just the right amount of time. They had daily specials to choose from or order right off the menu. Orange juice served in mason jar mugs. They are happy to customize any dish for you. We ordered the country fried steak and gravy with home fries and scrambled eggs with cheese. Also served with a biscuit. They offer assorted jellies etc. We also ordered a build your own omelette with home fries and an English muffin. Portion sizes were perfect. The home fries were done right and very flavorful. Eggs and omelette were cooked to perfection. The gravy for the steak was not your average bland gravy. It was perfect sausage gravy and very thick and flavorful. They have a variety of hot sauces available for the eggs. Hardest part was deciding what to order because everything sounded and looked so good. Grumpy's is a small casual place. Feels like your favorite small diner. Not loud despite being busy and a full house. They have benches and outdoor games to play while you wait to be seated. They close at 2pm and they do offer lunch entrees if you don't want breakfast. We thought it was fantastic and will be visiting their other locations around Jax as well. Highly recommended!!! read more

Came in and had breakfast while my car was being worked on up the street. Busy Saturday morning rush, but plenty of room for 1 at the bar. It was fun watching the team work and pump a ton of food out to the brunch goers. Even with the rush I got my food in less than 10 minutes after ordering and it was exactly what I needed. Build your own omelette, with cinnamon raisin toast and home fries. I couldn't finish it all and it cost less than $20. I love the decorations, friendly staff, regular customers and the food here. Although I was disappointed by the quoted 25min wait time turned into 45 mins the food I received afterwards was worth the wait. SN: normally a long wait time & a line out-the-door means there will be some good eating. I was at the Middleburg location it is unanimous a 5-star spot for Breakfast food. I ordered the Blueberry cheesecake waffle with a side of grits (the grits were a la cart). The Blueberry Cheesecake was NYStyle but it had just the right amount of blueberry for the taste to stick to the roof of my mouth then melt like butter going down & adding the waffle made me feel like I was balancing my diet In addition to my food tasting good, my 6year old ate all of her food (she is a picky eater). I came here with my family and everyone was pleased. Oh! I have to mention the Women's bathroom was exceptionally clean for the amount of traffic. Grumpy's is where it's at! And it's completely worth the wait. There's always a short wait! Extremely bright inside, also very clean. I had the bacon cheddar cheese burger, it was amazing and cooked to a perfect medium rare. They did cut it in half which is not something prefer. Wife had biscuits and gravy and holy cow were they amazing! Also it was a huge portion! Something I noticed that as for busy as this place gets and they have regulars and the servers take time to talk to all of them! My husband and I went to the Grumpy's in Middleburg the food was outstanding and Brooke the waitress was great. Will definitely be going back to Grumpy's in Middleburg location we have been to the Grumpy's on Kingsley Ave and the one in Middleburg out does it by far the waitresses are friendlier and good service is much quicker. The restaurant was packed full of patrons but that didn't seem to bother the wait staff they were all very friendly and welcoming. I'm in a wheelchair and our waitress Brooke was quick to move the chairs on my side of the table without me asking. The manager recognized us from a previous visit and stopped by to welcome us back. I had a breakfast wrap with a side of hash browns and my husband had a Greek omelette with a side of hash browns and sourdough toast. The food was outstanding and the portions were so large we both took home half enough for breakfast the next day. We will definitely be going back to the Middleburg location of Grumpy's it has become our favorite location. read more

This morning, we stopped by Grumpy's in Middleburg for breakfast and were thrilled to see it open after the hurricane. We wanted to check out the area and grab some food, and luckily, Grumpy's was ready for business. Our party of three had a short 10-minute wait for seating. We were seated at a nice bench with a clean table. I decided to try the pumpkin coffee, which was good but didn't have a strong pumpkin flavor. As usual, we ordered the special: the steak omelette. I got mine with "crispy hashbrowns" and cinnamon raisin toast, along with a glass of their fresh orange juice. The orange juice was perfect this time around. I know I previously mentioned it was yellow and not really orange juice, but that was a year ago, and it seems we're in a good season for it now. The steak omelette arrived, and it was HUGE! It took up a large portion of the plate, and the steak inside was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The taste was great, and I enjoyed adding A1 sauce to my eggs and steak. Unfortunately, the hashbrowns were disappointing because they were soggy and wet instead of crispy as I had requested. The cinnamon raisin toast was a nice touch to my meal; normally, I would have gotten some French toast, but with the size of the omelette, I was happy with my decision. The place was clean and bustling! I assume the kitchen was just very busy, which might explain why my hashbrowns weren't crispy. The service was good, and the owner made his way around to say hello to everyone. As the youngest in my group, he didn't shake my hand, but I wasn't reaching out either, so a nod from me was all that was exchanged. read more

Came in with my friend for lunch who is visiting from out of town. They don't have Grumpy's in SC so I wanted her to experience the delicious food and lovely atmosphere. We were seated immediately and greeted by our amazing server Ayla. She took our drink order and went over the days specials with us. By the time she had returned we knew exactly what we wanted...a starter of fried green tomatoes with their homemade remoulade sauce. Our meals were the same, Grumpy's BLT with fries. I opted to forgo the third piece of bread, my friend wanted it as it came add avocado. Ayla asked if we wanted our tomatoes first...a pleasant surprise as no one seems to ask that these days. When our food came we were not disappointed...the fried green tomatoes were delicious and the remoulade amazing. Piping hot with flavorful batter that wasn't thick. Our BLTs were packed full of bacon that was crispy but not burnt. Half way through eating we each got another serving of fries as they said they were small portions; not how they normally serve. We didn't think they were small portions, however the extra dishes was a lovely touch. Suffice it to say, we both took half a sandwich home and our fries. The highlight was getting to meet the owner. He actually comes around and speaks with his customers. This is definitely not the norm and was very much appreciated. We tried to convince him to sell their remoulade sauce in bottles and my friend tried to convince him to open a restaurant in her hometown in SC. This is an easy going, laid back restaurant that serves an abundance of quality food at working man prices. It is definitely my favorite local spot to come for brunch. I'm leaving a review for Grumpy's because our server, Carrie, who was new to this restaurant, provided some of the best service we've had at a restaurant in ages. She was prompt, polite and engaging, had a great smile, and managed a lot of tables with aplomb and grace. She was attentive without being intrusive. Compared to the other staff here, her smile was a respite from what seems to be a grim group of staff at the front. And I know we're not supposed to say anything about women smiling or not smiling but this is an eatery where the front of the house should appear interested in their customers. Stoped in today for lunch around 1130 at this location located in a strip mall off of Blanding in Middleburg. Despite the early hour, there was already a 10-15 minute wait on a Tuesday. The line moved quick and there is limited seating inside for you to wait but several benches outside to sit on while you wait l. They also provide water and games to keep you hydrated and entertained. Once you are on your list, they will call your name over a loud speaker in case you are waiting outside. Don't stray too far from the restaurant if you are waiting bc they call your name twice and if you miss it, you start over. Like we almost did bc we walked to the end of the strip to see the other stores. All of the staff were polite and friendly. We were promptly seated upon arriving at the hostess station. By the time the server got to the table we were ready to order. I ordered the deli club (ham, turkey, bacon, and roast beef) on sourdough with cheese, mayo, lettuce and tomato. I also paid an upcharge for onion rings ($1). My wife ordered the bacon omelet with toast and french fries. All of the food was well prepared and they are not stingy with the meat on their sandwiches or in the omelet. Also, the number of onion rings I got as a side was way more than most places. My sandwich was good but I probably won't order it again, it was just too big for me to enjoy in one bite (even after I quartered it). Our server was attentive throughout but there was a table beside us of employees who were dining there and the constant stream of employees coming over to talk, sit or congregate was a little distracting. Plus the off-shift employee felt the need to scream out at other members who were working which was a little annoying.
