Happy to find a new Cajun restaurant in Elgin. The options on the menu were great. I had the Jambalaya Pasta, just the right amount of heat. You can see the underlying rue. Filled with shrimp, chicken, and sausage the taste was worth going back for. My companions had the fried chicken and the Jambalaya with dirty rice, both worth very happy with their choices. Hidden away near the golf course, this place was very good. Although the decor is that of a typical golf club, the view overlooking the golf course was one of the nicest in Elgin. The staff was pleasant and very helpful. And the food would definitely bring me back again. read more

Such a nice place! Has an interesting ambiance...kind of romantic (at least when we went), kind of a Scottishy/tavern feel :) really warm staff members. Jen (there are 3 jen's actually) but OUR Jen/Jenny was our server today. She was a delight! Super sweet and accommodating and warm hearted. We decided to try the crawfish cakes, jalapeño poppers, mac & cheese, crawfish etouffee with the dirty rice and the muffuletta sandwich. Our cocktails of choice were an old fashioned & the cucumber thyme martini. Omgosh yummy!! We would most definitely recommend this place to anyone in our life. we went here on a whim because we wanted to try something different and new. WHAT A GEM! My BF and I are susceptible to cheeseburger malfeasance, and they have a "build your own" with the most amazingly ridiculous list of toppings, sauces and sides. I had an angus burger with their house cheese sauce (GAH), a crawfish patty--(hot damn) and grilled onions... and the BF had a burger as well... and he had no prob finishing it. This is a favorite for great burgers and creole cooking. Burgers are half price on Tuesdays. Also the dessert is awesome, especially the bread pudding which is better than any outside New Orleans. Ask for Jenny who is knowledgeable about the menu and always attentive and sweet. read more

Stopped in for drink and an appetizer between our daughter's softball games on a Sunday to catch a little football action. We were not disappointed! Friendly staff, great selection of beers on tap, and the Baked Goat Cheese was top shelf. The pub has a great atmosphere and different tartans of plaid gave it a Scottish feel. We found this place through buying a Groupon. The menu sounded very interesting and we tried it today. It was everything we expected and hoped for. The food was excellent and the servers were very attentive. We tried the Chicken Chili, Grumpy Goat Mac and Cheese, Grumpy Goat Salad, and the Bayou Burger topped with a Crab Cake. I have been coming since they have opened. There servers are always phenomenal and know the menu and the drink list. I always order a different whiskey everytime and they never disappoint with their recommendation. Their food always comes out hot and on point. Hello today I went into Grumpy Goat cuz they have half off burgers! You doesn't love a deal. Food has been tasty everytime I have gone there. The brunch is off the chain! But today the service was an embarrassment! We got there around 7 it was busy which explains a little. We waited 25 mins for the bus boy to bring water cuz the waiter said he doesn't serve the water. We waited 15 minutes for a beer and a cocktail. We suggested that we place our appetizer then we will be back to take out order even though we were ready to place the whole order. To avoid it all coming out at once. 20 minutes later we are still waiting. I had to find the hostess to place my order. I understand if it busy but we were never check on and I counted 6 times the table with the bigger party (bigger tip) were checked on. 2 hrs of arriving I food finally came at that point I didn't care to eat as long as my 1 year who's bedtime was 35 mins earlier ate. Kind you as we were waiting we saw food being brought out to a table where people apparently left. Also a group of 4 women also left. I have never in my life left a 2.00 tip to anybody!!! I'm so turned off I don't know if I will return to my favorite brunch spot for awhile!!! There's was no explanation why it was so slow. I'm ver saddened by this read more

I visited this restaurant for the first time a couple of months ago and it was AMAZING!!! The food, drinks and service was great!!!! I decided to take my family there last night. The waiter who was also the bartender was horrible, she took forever to bring out complimentary corn bread and pickles. I had to ask for it, finally we got our appetizer, we about starved to death. I had two children with me and she never offered us a kids menu so I assumed that they did not have one. I ended up paying a lot of money for mediocre food, maybe they had a new cook? The Louisiana fried chicken was flavor less, my crawfish etoufee was just ok, and they forgot my andouille sausage. I do not think that I will go to this restaurant again read more

Food was good. Different from what I usually eat. Youngest boy picked this restaurant out on trip advisor because of the reviews. Extremely disappointed in the service. It was a Saturday night around 8. Sat in the bar area. Server didn't come for quite some time. She took drink orders. Again took some time to bring drinks. Didn't bring my wine. Waited even longer for that. Bartender wasn't even busy making drinks but tidying up the bar. Placed our order, angus burger, angus ham and egg burger and portabella sandwich which was received in a reasonable amount of time Again she didn't come back to check up on us for quite some time. Other reviews said they had jalapeno corn bread. We did not get that. Check came rather quickly. Want to protect server"s name. Maybe she was off that night. I'll call it 3.5 stars. It was bad. It just wasn't awesome. We went with a large group for a birthday. We got a private room which was nice. The server was excellent. It was a little slow, but I think she was intentionally letting us have a leisurely meal. We weren't in a hurry. Cheese curds and crawfish cakes were awesome. I ordered the Creole chicken stew and biscuits. I imagined it would be a twist on chicken pot pie. It was awful. It was more of a vegetable stew with parsnips, Brussel sprouts, and sweet potatoes. The veggies were in large in size and were only lightly cooked, so I had to cut them with a knife, which made it less stew-like. I HATE Brussel sprouts, so I wish the dish would have had a better description. There was a little bit of chicken. The biscuits were good. I liked the corn bread, but I wish it would have come before we ordered. I don't think it was objectively a bad dish, but more like false advertising. My husband got a chicken po'boy which was just a chicken sandwich with BBQ sauce and a little sausage. He said it wasn't bad but not amazing and didn't really seem like a po boy. The Cajun sweet potato fries were awesome! I would go back because the menu was interesting. read more

i have seen facebook friends comment on the Grumpy goat, and they talked highly of it, so when a Groupon was available my wife purchased one. So we went there on Saturday to give it a try and see for ourselves, we loved it. We had a great waitress, great food and a great view for a mid winter sunny day. They have a variety of different flavor foods that were awesome, like duck bacon for example. we started with the cheese curds and the flatbread of the day. Both were amazing!! Went here with my husband for dinner on a Tuesday night. Half-price burger special was going on. We tried the crawfish and corn stew, as well as the bbq shrimp and grits and both were amazing! For our entrees we got the duck bacon and bleu cheese burger as well as the cajun chicken and biscuits. The burger was okay The patty was very thin for a burger that (at regular price) costs $15, but I really liked the duck bacon. My big issue came with the chicken and biscuits. It was a wide range of under-cooked, crunchy vegetables (carrots, potatoes, jalapeños, cauliflower, celery, bell peppers, brussel sprouts) cooked in beef (why beef?) gravy with chunks of chicken tossed in and topped with biscuit mix. Gross and weird. Other than that entree, other meals were yummy and staff was nice. Slightly expensive. Overall I would recommend the restaurant, but not the cajun chicken and biscuits. read more

Grumpy Goat is one of our regular spots. The menu is solid with some cool specials on certain days (crawfish and shrimp boils). Some of my favorites include the muffuletta and the chicken chili - but we've had pretty much everything on the menu without complaint. I particularly like the rotating microbrew taps. read more

place is disgusting and over priced. stacking chairs and greasy tables, like a school cafeteria. ordered shrimp etoufee, what we got was shrimp mixed in with mashed potato brown gravy on top of old stale hard rice. also got an 18 burger... it was a soy burger, I don't care what they say, it was not a Kobe burger like the river boat. It was on par with an Aldi frozen patty or a frozen nasty Bubba Burger. The fries were obviously frozen and dumped into a not so hot deep fryer (they were soggy and greasy). Never again. read more
