Grumpy Gary's was a favorite hangout on the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. We spent countless afternoons and evenings hanging out, having drinks and people watching. We had some time to kill before our flight, so we finally stopped to check out the new location. The first thing I noticed was the overall vibe was completely different. The HB location was so open and airy, where this location felt pieced together and disjointed. One thing that remains the same is the incredibly friendly staff! Our bartender even mentioned recognizing us from the former location. I was hoping that they still offered the cheese steak egg rolls, but they do not. So i settled for a couple margaritas. They were well made and much better than the what's offered at the airport bars. I'm glad that Grumpy's is still around and I'm sure I'll stop back again. But I would love to see them back in Hollywood Beach.

This place is very cute and nostalgic, the food isn't amazing they have burgers for $5 on Monday eve as well as music bingo byom. A local hang out spot where pretty much everyone knows each other

I recently visited Grumpy Gary's in Dania Beach. The food itself (fish and chips) was good..However, the service absolutely made the visit worth it. Our waitress was fantastic: friendly, attentive, and on top of everything from start to finish. She really elevated the whole experience and made us feel welcomed and taken care of. If you're looking for a spot with great service and a comfortable atmosphere, Grumpy Gary's is worth a try. With just a bit more consistency in the food, it could easily be a top pick in the area.

Service: very fast and kind service. They got our orders perfect as they should and they were very nice. Food: I got the soup of the day which was a shrimp soup, and I got the fish and chips. The soup was very good and warm. I got that soup with crackers in it and I also got fish and chips which was so delicious I loved it so much. The fish melted in my mouth with a savory flavor with the tartar sauce it was so good. The lemonade was fine and overall the food I really enjoyed. My friend got the dolphin sandwich which was very good with fresh fish. I loved this place I would go back very good.

This is a nice little restaurant on near the boats with happy hour daily and daily food specials! We went on burger night and it was $5 burgers with music bingo to play as well. Can't beat the prices! Bartender/waitress was not the nicest and service was slow due to having to do both the bar and tables but would still recommend checking out.

Boom boom shrimp and fries.

Boom boom shrimp is delicious! The server was prompt and very attentive. Sign on the door says that gratuity will be added. I'm not a fan of that. Should be up to me.

Fish n chip with crispy tots!!!

Used to come here when it was dockers so I'm glad Grumpy Gary's took it over. It's too close and convenient to the airport to not have something. Had the fish and chips but asked for crispy tots instead of fries and that was perfect!!! Grabbed a few drinks and was entertained by the bartender who just got back from a cruise. She mentioned they have live music fairly often and that would make it even better. I'm glad we sat at the bar we heard some grumbling from other wait staff about their tables etc so not sure they were as friendly as the bartender but hey it is Grumpy Gray's right? So maybe that's the vibe?? We will be back again when in town.

Grabbed a quick lunch while in town here. Sits on a Marina overlooking the slips. Our server was friendly and the food came out fast. The Mahi Sandwich was very good. The Tots weren't bad (just tasted like oil needed to be changed)

First time I've been in since it became Grumpy Gary's, pretty solid. We stopped in after some good golf last Sunday. It wasn't busy, we had the bar to ourselves around 1pm. There were a few groups outside, we may have to trice that spot next time. It was nice to sit down at a bar I had visited many times in the last, but it had been years. They had cleaned up the place plenty. The pool room was now a dining room. The beat up walls and floors were all sharp looking. And that aroma the place had was long gone. It was just nice all around. I hadn't planned to eat but the gal working dropped off menus and explained some of the popular dishes and specials. Although Seafood would have been the right call for their menu I went a Philly Steak. After a drink I headed home with my lunch. It was excellent. It was definitely above average and the fries that came with it were darn good too We will be back soon, and maybe grab a spot outside next time.

We got into Ft Lauderdale pretty late and hadn't eaten. We were staying close to Grumpy Gary's so we walked over to grab some food. It took a while before we were greeted and seated. We sat right on the water which was nice (even though it was dark out). It was a Friday night and they had awesome LIVE music. The food was meh. Smallest fish taco I have ever seen. Flavor was good but more than a fish nugget would have been nice. The clam chowder had a weird taste to it. Poke was pretty good. Drinks were strong.

Crab cakes!

The chef, Daniel, was amazing! He was met with three of us Marylanders who were skeptical of the Maryland crab cakes. So, he brought us a sample. We gave him our feedback and he brought us another sample - amazing!! He did such a great job of listening to us and made an amazing crabcake! And our bartender, Suzanne, was so friendly too! Worth the trip.

We spent the weekend in Hollywood and decided to grab lunch before heading back across the state. No one could decide so when we saw Grumpy Gary's we decided to stop and try it out. It sit beside the boat docks so there were plenty of boats for our little grandson to see. We got there not too long after opening so we were the second to be seated and got a nice corner table. We ordered potato skins for an appetizer and they came out very quickly. We all enjoyed one and they were good! A couple of us ordered the grumpy Gary burger and I have to say that it was a really great burger! It had two onion rings on top of the cheese and I got the Horsy sauce on the side but really liked it and dipped every bit in it! The tater tots were crispy on the outside and great inside! Live music starts at noon but she was a little later that day so we only heard a small amount. Our server was great and attentive and kept our cups filled!

Unfortunately, I will never know if any of it actually tastes good. I have a nut allergy, the kind that in 25 years of living and ice cream in 30+ countries has never once stopped me from ordering. I asked about a specific flavor, was told it contained no nuts, and then was promptly informed I could not order it due to my allergy. After some back and forth I was told the only flavor I could order was vanilla :( I appreciate caution around allergies, I truly do. But most establishments handle this with a standard cross-contamination warning and let the adult with the allergy make an informed decision. As someone who has worked in an ice cream shop (without a problem) it makes me question their food handling and cleanliness... I left without ordering anything. But everyone around seemed to be enjoying the $9 scoops of what I can only assume were life-changing flavors The place looks great. I hope they revisit how they handle allergy disclosures, because I genuinely wanted to love it and I'd like the chance to actually try it someday.

We've seen their sign for a couple of years now on Federal heading north between Hollywood and…read moreSheridan. The name never landed with us as it sounded like a standalone food court. It was the sign underneath that read, "Too tired to cook today?" that made us take notice. Looking at the online menu we found that it was not only a who's who of Latin dishes of different nationalities, but they also served bar fare - chicken wings, burgers, quesadillas, etc. Not knowing what their specialty was, we never committed to it. But today was one of those days where we felt like something different and we took a chance. The gamble paid off big. The menu was all over the place, so not knowing what direction to go in, I addressed the waiter who was all too ready to help. He pointed me to some of his faves: the Bandeja Paisa, Lomo Saltado, and Ropa Vieja. I'd had my eye on the Lomo Saltado, a popular Peruvian stir fry dish. The Bandeja Paisa is Colombian, and the Ropa Vieja - Cuban. I asked him what the nationality of the ownership was, when he revealed it was Colombian. I was immediately skeptical of ordering the ropa vieja - being half Cuban, I could not fathom the idea of a Colombian-owned restaurant pulling this off. So Joe took one for the team there. The waiter assured me that everything he has tried has in fact been delectable. But hey, what else is he supposed to say? But no, he assured me these were not marketing words, but words of experience. So I went for the Lomo Saltado which was served with black beans and rice, and french fries. He didn't hesitate to vouch for the black beans... I think he sensed my Colombian skepticism. Joe had replaced his fries for sweet plantains, so I took his cue and substituted my fries for tostones. But, not before warning the waiter that I would be particularly particular about the quality of my favorite plantain dish. He gave me a confident nod - so I played along. Joe's dish came out a few seconds before mine, and being the impatient carnivore that I am, I (let's say borrowed) his ropa vieja before he had a chance to pick up his fork. I was very pleasantly surprised. On par with any old clothes I have tried at any Cuban restaurant... and even better than some, albeit in longer strands than I've experienced. However, extremely juicy, full of flavor and tender. Then came my Lomo. I'm a first-timer, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was fan-tastic. A bit charred outside with a juicy medium innard that cuts like butter, and to my relief, deceivingly tender. The lomo napped on a bed of sautée-charred veggies whose sweetness was a nicely balanced contrast to the savory meat. The black beans were definitely on point and seasoned with Colombian love. And those ten-ton-tostones!!! By far the thickest fried medallions I've had, but with a brutally loud crunch and still a real easy chew. And unlike John Travolta in a black T-Bird jacket, totally Greaseless. Often times, tostones of this variety are tough and as chewable as week-old yellow paper mache. Nope, these are some of the best tostones I've had in a couple of years. But by far the best of their kind. I also borrowed one of Joe's sweet plantations which once again left no trace of greased lightning and were rendered a perfect dark brown with a nice and plush sunshine yellow inside. The portions were more than generous and the price was comfortably modest. I expressed my deepest gratitude to our waiter for his patience and his spot on recommendations. He also swore by their burger which he had just sampled for the first time and which is made partly with Colombian chorizo and served with a side of chimichurri. Chorizo and chimichurri for little cha-ching.... I'm sure I'll be chowing on that real soon. Food Corner is a cornucopia of Latin influences, and so far, it's also a master of two of them. (We were too excited to take photos)
