So we were wandering to the boat for an afternoon of relaxation and decided to stop and pick up food. That way we could have less mess to clean up on the boat. We each got the Maryland crab cake salad. The quantity of crab meat on the salads was amazing! The only things keeping this from a 5 star rating were the overall cost (a little high), the time it took to make the food (a little long). Raven and Dylan waited in the car with Luke, but they do have outdoor seating where dogs are welcome. The outdoor area did have people by it smoking which also cuts down the enjoyment. This restaurant came as a recommendation from my cousin who lives in the area. My original plan was to go to Miss Shirley's but the wait was 45 min to an hour long. First off, I do like the laid back relaxed atmosphere. The staff was very nice and helpful. However, I didn't like having to wait in line to place my order and the food was just ok. I take that back, I was a little upset at the quality of food. I've had better at diners and such. This was a bit of a waste of money to me. The waffles were just ok, the grits were just ok and the drink selection made me mad. The beignets were over cooked. I just wanted to go home and cook breakfast myself after this. Really eclectic place for a good greasy breakfast. There are signs all over the wall and the menu proclaiming their love of bacon so expect it in almost everything. The service was quick, they expect you to sit down, eat and get out so don't come here if you plan to linger over breakfast. I saw lots of cool potato pancakes and cornbread pancakes on the menu but I was boring and ordered a breakfast sandwich the way I like it, bacon egg and cheese on toast. They put lettuce tomato mayo on it which I liked, made it feel more like a sandwich. Coffee was fresh and they have cute eclectic mugs, bring one and leave it for them if you want/ if you have ugly mugs you don't want anymore. My partner and I used to be regulars here, but we will be looking elsewhere. The staff is amazing, we have always had such pleasant service here! The reasoning would be the food. The food has declined within the last year or so. I have a sweet tooth and will usually order pancakes along with eggs or something else. I ordered their apple pie pancakes a few weeks ago and the pancakes weren't cooked all the way through, and the apple topping was a goopy gelatinous syrup with under cooked apples in it, felt like apple pie topping from a can. Overly sweet and unpleasantly artificial. Today we went out and decided to forgo the sweets and stick with the egg dishes. My partner got an eggs Benedict with the English muffin barely cooked, overdone eggs, and like six cubes of hash browns. I got a veggie omelette and grilled English muffin and send it back because the eggs were watery (all around the omelette, it looked like it was sweating) and an over buttered under cooked English. I sent it back and got an overcooked omelette with no flavor other than whatever was on the grill before and an English muffin mostly burnt and overly buttered and soggy. Felt like the food was just blasted on the grill to get it cooked and out. Things can happen when you're busy, but there were empty tables. I was just super disappointed. I don't know what happened, but the food just isn't it anymore. Again, staff is amazing! I had lunch at Grump's today for the first time. When you come in around noon, they ask you if you want breakfast or lunch, and they give you the appropriate menu. The hostess showed me to a booth, explained that I would go up front to place my order, and left a little rubber ducky with my order number on the table. I opted for the chicken quesadilla. They asked if you want roasted chicken or crispy chicken inside. It came out on a whole wheat tortilla, and was packed with chicken. It was a good lunch for the value. Food and prices are fine. Unfortunately, the last 3 times I have ordered carryout my order has been completely wrong. I will not leave now until after I check my order to make sure everything is correct. Service is okay, but I will say the servers and behind the counter staff are sometimes preoccupied with their phones or in conversations between each other to help customers or notice that someone needs assistance. The curbside option for carryout may as well not exist. When I ordered my food online I clicked the curbside option and put the model and make of my vehicle. Upon arrival I called the number they indicated on the app. I called 4 times in a row with no answer - only to go inside and receive the wrong order anyway. I really want to like this place - it's nearby, the staff is friendly and the ambiance is very laid back with the staff wearing PJ's and such, but the novelty does not make up for completely missing food items and services that are offered not working at all. I will try Grumps out a few more times to give them a chance but have been very disappointed this far. read more

Went here to grab a quick lunch to go. I ordered four bacon cheeseburger sliders with a side of onion straws for less than $12-what a great price! I had called ahead to order take out and the employee was so incredibly friendly. She also allowed me two sub out two cheddar cheese sliders for American cheese. I love how chill the inside of their restaurant is. While I was waiting for my food, I spent my time reading the walls and signs. Things I would do different: 1.) order off the menu and order a set meal. When you start getting creative with what you want, it's starts getting stupid costly. Example: Want an egg white omelette with healthier sides= Build Your Omelet ($9.99), Egg Whites (+$1.29), Side of fruit instead of potatoes (+$1.49)...and that omelet had no cheese. Side of bacon? +$3.99. Meanwhile, my off the menu hashbrown Omelet was around $8.50. 2.) Tip on the table after you've ordered. I made the mistake of tipping my standard 18%-20% when I paid for our food. But after thinking about it, I realized that was a suckers move. You stand in line to order your food, you get your own drinks, and they drop the food off at your table. So really, this shouldn't be a standard full service tip. At least if you tip on the table, you can decide if the staff has put in the effort for a standard tip. When our food came out it looked good. Mine was wrong, and I hadn't noticed the mistake before the server saw it and took it back to correct the issue (judging by how quickly it was back, I assume he grabbed the wrong the plate). After that the food was good. Nothing super special, but good, straight forward food. Coffee mugs were a bit dirty, I picked through the pile until I found a clean one. But everyone that works there was friendly and I left full and happy. It's been weeks since I drafted this review, and I'm glad I waited to submit. Because I would have given them two stars. I felt cheated by the cost and the amount of tip I left. But looking back on it, it's not the restaurants fault. They have a format within which they work, and once you know that format you'll feel better about operating within the restaurant. A friend and I had breakfast plans in Annapolis. I live in Baltimore, so I left the restaurant choice up to her. The only requirement? It couldn't suck. She had been wanting to try Grump's Cafe, of course I was game. We were getting breakfast food, so my friend chose the classic option of a waffle, specifically the Golden Malted Waffle. The dish came with two waffle pieces and a slice of bacon, this was a straightforward breakfast dish, but it was still very good. It's been said before, but I love Corned Beef Hash, so I ordered Grumps Favorite. This was corned beef hash beneath two over easy eggs, potatoes, and a biscuit. The corned beef hash was a touch saltier than I would have liked, but this was still a great cheap breakfast dish. Lastly, we shared an order of Bacon because bacon is phenomenal. The bacon was crispy and the perfect accompaniment to breakfast. If you're looking for a casual breakfast spot, I'm sure you'll find something great at Grump's Cafe. read more

Grumps was goooood. I loved the theme - very laid back just kinda "whatever/laid back/just relax and eat" atmosphere. I loved the waiters and staff all in pajamas and the toy they give you with your table number. The staff was friendly (i was glad the pj's didn't MAKE them lazy - they were great). I loved the decor and that little fun facts about the place AND the food were written here and there on the walls (i think i saw a couple menu recipes too!) The ordering process is kinda weird - you have to order BEFORE you even sit down. So as newbies, my bf and I had to stand awkwardly by the counter and kind of in the way (because the place aint THAT big and more people were entering.) We literally were not allowed to sit at our reserved table to decide what to eat. Wasn't diggin that - 1/2 star off. This ordering process also means that if you decide you want something else during your meal, you have to go up to order it (and possibly wait in a long line to do so) - another 1/2 star off for that. The FOOD is amazing. French toast done well with cinnamon honey butter which was scrumptious. The corned beef hash was on point. The fresh fruit was indeed fresh. No complaints on either side. Would love to go back and try more of the menu, OR even have the same thing. It was so nice, I decided to extend my vacation and stay a little longer. Whoo hoo. Good choice! Caren had a big juicy hamburger and I enjoyed my beloved chicken quesidilla. Delish!! The workers in their p.j.'s matched our attire at the moment of total laziness and our attitude of 'who really cares'? Loved the rubber chicken we received with our order number on it. This is my second visit to Grumps and they have yet to disappoint! With an adorable interior full of character and a comforting atmosphere, Grumps is a great place for breakfast or brunch. I love how they use rubber ducks and other animals for table numbers, and the staff wears pajama pants! My boyfriend and I came today, Labor Day, around 11:30. It was busy but we were still able to get a table. Our food came in a decent amount of time. He got the "I yam what I yam" wrap and potato pancakes. I ordered the french toast and substituted the meat for crispy potatoes. The french toast was very tasty, served with syrup and cinnamon butter. The potatoes were nicely seasoned and indeed crispy. All of the staff were very friendly (contrary to the name ;) however no one came to check on us to see if we needed anything else. Don't be scared. Honestly the first time I walked in here was on a crowded weekend morning and the line was just intimidating and too long for my appetite to hold out. So I came back on another day and used an awesome Living Social coupon to enjoy lunch for half price. We walked up to the counter to order brunch and then served ourselves coffee in an eclectic cup with just the right cream and sugar like I was standing at my own kitchen counter. The entire place has a very homey feel with the best signs and sayings. There's splatter paint on the floors and randomness. It has a very laid back vibe, so much so that all the servers wear pajama pants to work. But don't let that fool you because they are very focused and take care of their customers. I was impressed with my breakfast and the option of ordering drinks from the bar....you know that ordering a drink for breakfast only postpones your hangover right?? ;-) I actually enjoy eating in this ambiance more than the other breakfast places around. Grumps is a good solid choice for breakfast. They have a certain personal flare. The dining area is a bit cramped at times and when they are swamped it can be somewhat overwhelming. Food is good. I have had the steak and eggs which is a 3.5 on a 5 pt scale. I hear the waffles are good but I haven't had them. I sub my potatoes for a side of spinach. Coffee is very good 4.2 good. For military it's free. I come here often enough to recommend it. read more

The ambiance is fun and screams of south Florida and beaches. I love it, it's cute. The food is good and the breakfast is great! No idea why Grumps only has 3 stars... this is one of my go to places for breakfast/brunch. Everything on the menu is reasonably priced and the food is always great no matter what new item I choose. You get to drink coffee out of donated coffee mugs that give you an at home feeling or you can accompany your meal with an awesome Bloody Mary like I do. Definitely try the jalapeño bacon Bloody Mary. Their biscuits and gravy are my go to choice with 2 nice sized biscuits with their delicious sausage gravy. My husband and I got up early to go to Grumps because we told ourselves we don't want to sit on the uncomfortable cheap chairs and we don't want the booth by the door that opens constantly and is cold. When we arrived there were no other people standing in line. I was so happy that we were going to get a comfortable booth up close to the register where it was warm. Then, In walks of family of two adults and three kids and then I'm told that I need to go sit on the rickety chairs or I need to go sit in the booth by the cold door. After I ate a mediocre meal, I called the owner over to my table. And I said to him I want you to know exactly why I will not be coming back. I was here first and I should get the best of what you have. Being told that we try to keep the booths only for families who need high chairs was a poor excuse for mistreating me. The booth by the door could support a high chair, too. Then the owner started raising his voice arguing with me the customer, saying that "nobody is mistreating you on purpose"... I guess he figured the louder he argued with me the more it would become a true statement. What I witnessed was pure privilege for some people and no privilege for others. It didn't matter that we arrived 15 minutes earlier than the privileged family. Had we not already paid for our food we would have walked out. They had our money and now they stole the warm booth right from under our noses and then had the nerve to loudly tell us we shouldn't be upset. I'm sorry, but gone are the days when I go to the back of the bus and those who come BEHIND me get better treatment. That was our last visit to Grumps. Food and service are average but the good ol boy attitude of taking care of your own while dismissing people of color are alive and well at grumps.....the owner would actally kick 2 senior citizens to the cold booth so that the other family could be comfortable. enough said. I came because of the reputation. I think the reputation needs reviewing! The atmosphere is good and with many people that figure it must be outstanding. It was not. My buddy ordered an omelet that looked really good. I ordered the fish tacos and they sucked. they were bland, flavorless and a very small portion. they did come the sweet potato fries that were amazing but cost extra. The large cappuccino was small but tasty. It took along time to get served. All in all a so experience that is not worth repeating. read more
