Their amber is definitely right on point with any I've tasted downtown and I definitely like that their cider isn't too sweet either! Nitro offerings add to the diversity of their selection. A HUGE bonus is the offering of my very favorite red wine, Kiona Lemberger, which goes for $9+ a glass everywhere but here. HERE IT ONLY COSTS $6 a glass!!! SOLDSOLDSOLD. I can't wait for summer events here, because the chili and chowder cook off this January was a hilarious, fun hit! I'll be back. I also super like their rad hats! We live in the Seattle area and try to get up to Bellingham at least once a year to shop and check out the breweries. We had recently heard about Gruff and wanted to check it out. I'm so glad we did! What an amazing outdoor setup they have with gas firepits and an incredible view! The beers were truly excellent and we will most definitely be back the next time we come up north. read more

I drank my first Gruff beer nearly three years ago at a charity event at Chuckanut Brewing. My impression was that the beers were well-crafted and tasty. It's been a long wait for the opening of their actual brewery, but I would say anticipation makes the heart grow fonder. I tasted a number of Gruff's offerings on their second weekend of operation, including their IPA 001 and their East Coast IPA, and have to say that the beers did not disappoint in any way. I hadn't been here previously and, for some reason, had imagined that it wouldn't be a very comfortable place. I couldn't be further off. Gruff is a relaxing brewery with several seating options indoors and outdoors. My manfriend and I nearly fell asleep on the couch. I love the lighting which adds to the atmosphere of the place. Two pinball machines and a large flat screen tv offer entertainment. Beer and local cider options are available. The only food available during my visit was pizza that had been ordered from an outside source. This is definitely a pet friendly bar. read more

I'm not a big beer person (yet), but Gruff is a really sweet brewery that I always enjoy my time at. There's normally a cider or two at least on the menu, great for people like me. There are large tables inside to sit at, with tons of windows that allow in light and to look out at the bay. Outside there are a lot of picnic tables - there's always been enough seating when I've gone. It's nice to have such a large outdoor space to sit in, and sometimes there are food trucks! Hands-down one of the best breweries in Bellingham! They have casual counter service for drinks with food trucks as a food option and one of the best patios/beer gardens for drinking. They carry their own beer as well as other PNW beverages which is so fun! In the winter time they have awesome mulled wine too! The staff are always so friendly, especially Rita who always chats us up about local happenings. This place is also dog friendly which is a huge plus! read more

Had a terrific time today at Gruff, I and a couple of my Yelp buddies participated in their Chili and Chowder cook-off. I enjoyed a nice, smooth Gruff Amber. I'm not that knowledgeable about beer but I know what I like. The building is located just down Maple Street and across the street from Boundary Bay Brewery with the entrance hidden in the alley. Inside they have a nice long bar and several long tables. It was nice and cozy and clean. Outside they have a beer garden with a lovely view of the waterfront. It was cold today but I imagine on a warm summer day it would be a great place to get together. Service was friendly. It was very busy and perhaps they could have used additional help but I think they were caught off guard by the crowd.
