I heard a lot of hype coming into this place, and while the food is fine, it's nothing all that outstanding. I came for breakfast, and it seems like a great deal that you can get home fries, bacon, and fruit for $5, until you see that it's less food than you would've gotten for the same price at IHOP. For all the gluten-free, local-source, vegan-friendly, blah, blah, blah, you see, the food was pretty bland and basic. I'm not saying the food isn't good. I'm just saying that their cage-free, macrobiotic, whatever, whatever eggs taste the same as what I have in my fridge from Publix. Now, I'm not going to lie, their juices and smoothies are really good, but they set you back about $10. Let me start with what's good about this place. I love the decor and the set up! I liked their Esquite Mexican corn. Staff was alright. My husband and I went on a Wednesday night and the place was completely empty. Just like everyone else, we found this place VERY EXPENSIVE! The food was ok, but not worth the money we spent. Very pricey for the amount and quality expected. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which was base of 11 bux then add 6 bux for the chicken and add a side of broccoli for 5 bux and you are up to 22 bux?!? Finding great places to eat that are also organic isn't always easy. Grown provides a service I don't really see in Miami quite often. It has a "fast food" sort of approach while maintaining the authenticity of a farm to fork restuarant. I find this so refreshing so I've been back a couple of times. Typically I've received my mean within 5 minutes of ordering it, but when it's paarticularly busy around 10-15 minutes. I recommend creating you own meal so you can try different sides and proteins. It's nice that they have a drive-thru, I have two toddlers and Lord knows its sometimes easier to just pass through a drive-thru than to have to get off at a restaurant with a million items. Cons: The menu is confusing and there should be a less expensive option. I understand the food is organic and made fresh, but a "middle of the road" option- maybe a bowl with rice, beans, and a protein, should be offered so people from all demographics can elect to eat a healthy meal for lunch. The reality is, a middle-income family would not be able to eat at Grown often- if at all. Also, whoever designed the inside of the restaurant did a poor job. The waiting area gets filled quickly. After eating here a few times, I realize that I appreciated Grown's concept far more than its execution. Here is why this restaurant is not a success: 1) *Mixed message/concept Identity crisis.* While Grown features a green, living wall and t-shirts with vegetarian messages, the menu offers an overwhelming amount of animals and animal products. 2) *Grown...and destroyed.* They often cook vegetables to death in salt and oil so that there is little trace of their natural color or nutritional content remaining. NOT HEALTHY, folks. Brussels sprouts, for instance, are often served as a mound of charred salty pellets. 3) *Under-informed employees.* Wondering if the featured soup is vegan? So is the confused person taking your order. But wait, they'll "like, go ask someone else for you...like, maybe they know...um....." 4) *Not in stock.* They are almost always out of basic menu items: desserts, portobellos, cabernet.... Because of the way the menu is constructed, if there are no mushrooms, vegans/vegs are left high and dry. 5) *They mis-classify "protein."* There is more protein in some of the legumes, greens, and grains that Grown serves than in mushrooms, but they label the mushrooms as their non-animal "protein" source, demonstrating their preoccupation with taste/texture over any interest they might have in true nutrition. read more

Mediocre at best. And even that is an overstatement. Finally passed by this place solely based off of all the hype I've heard about it, and was super disappointed. I don't know what everyone is raving about. Goes to show put a famous persons name on a place and automatically people feel obliged to give it credit that is undeserved. But that's typical of Miami fans, jumping on the bandwagon as usual. I visited the drive thru, as I was on my way to an appointment and wanted a healthy option on the road. I ordered a simple greens wrap which is supposed to come with lettuce cucumbers tomatoes onions candied pecans and apples and a lemon vinaigrette sauce. The wrap by itself is $11 I paid an additional $7 to add my protein which was chicken. Aside from the wrap completely falling apart because it was so moist there was not one apple or one pecan in any of my bites. I also ordered an iced green tea for a whopping $4 a pop. Starbucks doesn't even charge that much. Don't get me wrong I'm all for paying high prices for good quality food. I'm a regular at jugo fresh paying $14 for an acai bowl but at least after that I feel satisfied and like I just indulged in something amazingly good yet still healthy. I wish I could give Grown a million stars! This place is AMAZING! The food is on the pricier side for "fast food", but you get what you pay for. It amazes me that most people aren't suspicious about how Subway can still manage to make a profit off a $3 sub. Here's a hint: it's because you're eating junk that's poisoning your body. I was most excited when I realized there was no soda fountain at this place. It's such a pet peeve of mine to see restaurants that label themselves as healthy, yet they have diet coke being dispensed. This place is also a great option for those with food allergies/intolerances. They ask about allergies when you place your order and the employees are very well trained on how to handle those situations. I cant remember the sandwiches I've had, but they've all been great. We went Sunday for lunch around 1pm. My husband had to change his order about 4 times because everything he asked for, they didn't have. We both got the chicken salad sandwich with the havana vibe + a drink. The total was $50. When I asked the cashier why it was so much (I didn't look at prices on the menu, so my bad) She explained that each sandwich was $11, and the protein we chose was an additional $6. Ok. So I'm expecting a sandwich stuffed with salad and a hearty portion of chicken salad. Not so much. I got a good scoop of chicken salad. But the $11 salad portion was laughable. I got about 3 leafs of lettuce and a spoonful of tomato/pico, beans, corn and tortilla strips. Sorry but that's just unacceptable. If you're going to charge $11 just for lettuce and bread, make it worth my while. At the end of the day, the taste was ok, but by no means worth $17. Taste wise: it was ok. Of course, this is pricier than your average lunch-spot. In my opinion, worth every penny because the food is local, fresh, organic, and above all- FRESH. Sure, you can go to any bar and grill and order a black bean burger and sweet potato fries straight out of the freezer, but that is NOT what you are getting at Grown. The taste and overall quality of the food is evident from the first bite! All of the ingredients, cooking, and prep is done right infront of the customer! The foods are rich in nutrients and creatively thought out so your meal is exciting and good for you! Finally, I will admit I loved the salad/wrap/sandwich options! I get stressed out as a pickier eater when salads are one-size fits all or a-la-carte on menus. At Grown, you are able to choose one of the three, pick a protein, and "vibe" that includes all of the fixings. The vibes are carefully curated and delicious. I had a spinach salad, with the Mediterranean vibe, and chicken salad (so good). I am so ecstatic that this place was created ! The ironic thing about me is that despite being a major foodie, I have a rare autoimmune disease which is due to allergies called Eosinophilic Esophagitis (bet you've never heard of that). I have tons of food allergies. I am also pre diabetic. I tend to eat high quality foods and I cook at home for the most part. I eat the same things over and over which are mainly whole foods. At Grown, I know exactly what is being put into my food. Their food is big on being gluten free and organic. Very exciting to people like me! I love their concept on being good to bodies and to the earth. They use recyclable goods and I HEARD they will soon be somewhat self sustainable as they are in the works of creating a garden on their roof top I ordered a tea and was greeted by the very sweet creator/ barista for the day, Shannon. She was so kind and helped me pick out a tea since they were out of chamomile for the moment. I ordered steel cut oats with strawberries which is what I usually have at home. They were prepared to perfection ! They have two different types of aromatic spa waters to choose from as well as regular purified water. Did I mention this place is gorgeous ?! Such a fresh feeling and it smells like fresh flowers! It's like a living breathing restaurant with herbs growing from pillars and on little planters on tables. I came for lunch and it was underwhelming. While the idea is definitely there, nothing stood out. I asked the cashier if she recommended the free range chicken or the brisket, to which she replied salmon. I got the chicken. I got it with Mexican corn and roasted potatoes. The Mexican corn had nothing Mexican about it. And the potatoes were harder than rocks as of under a heat lamp for hours or just baked to death. I also asked if she recommended any of the smoothies, she offered that the sunset one was good. At best it was intensely citrusy without any other flavor. Saying that a place like Grown needed to be created is an understatement. I visited Grown on opening day around 8:30 PM. The line was pretty long which I expected but moved so quick that I was so pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is inviting and so creative. To see Ray Allen and his wife put their sweat and tears into their restaurant doing all the hard work of serving and cooking was amazing. You can see they believe Good Food you can trust really matters. Now on to the food... Because they had such a busy day they ran out of a few things I wanted like the sweet potato mash and the Panko chicken tenders for my kids but what we had instead was so good it didn't even matter.. Rotisserie chicken = amazing. Garlic roasted brussels sprouts = amazing. The smoothies and juice we had was oh so good!!!! We came back the next morning for breakfast and was again so pleasantly surprised! Not only was ray and his wife there putting in all their love and hard work but the breakfast was even better. My kids loved the gluten-free blueberry pancakes and eggs. I love my steel cut oatmeal with fruits. And my green smoothie was delicious... I am so grateful for a place like this. I can only pray that more and more restaurants will begin to realize that having organic food is a must. Literally waited for my food for a short 2 minutes and the wonderful employees were already apologizing for the wait and patience! There is nothing to apologize about you were all wonderful and coming from someone in the restaurant business this is the smoothest grand opening I've ever seen. Ray was there himself basically serving tables and showing his full on hospitality skills. This will definitely be my new favorite eating spot, since I'm trying out the healthy eating! If I am paying 11 dollars for a sandwich, the sourdough bread should have a hard crunchy outside like I can get from some place that makes it fresh. When you order a Capri sandwich I honestly thought I would have come with "fresh mozzarella" or bufala mozzarella. Anything that is sliced that thin is not worth 11 dollars. Like most people say sometimes, I want to live this place because the concept is great, but they do have some quirks to work out first. The decor is just adorable and attractive to those passing by. I let the storm pass after it opened so I wouldn't have to wait in a monstrous line to eat. When we arrived, there was a small line our the door mostly because there's only room for like four people to wait inside when ordering. The first thing I noticed was how hot it was. We are entering the brutal Miami summers and I am not sure I will be going if they do not close that garage door. It is a cool concept they have, but it is just too hot for it right now. On top of that, they have these horrible bright lights that probably emit even more heat. I honestly don't know how the poor people working in the kitchen can take it. This all also contributed to flies entering the establishment and hovering around the food while it waited to be picked up. I also felt that it was a bit pricey for being a quick food place. I get that it's all natural and fresh, but a $10 smoothie felt over the top. My mom and I spent almost $50 which is very expensive for this. I ordered an entree of chicken, Mexican corn, and potatoes and my mom got a salad with chicken. I did enjoy their complementary watermelon water that helped cool me down while I waited at my table. So the food was good. You can tell the entree food is pre-prepared. Mine was room temperature which I didn't like. The corn and potatoes tasted delicious but the chicken was very bland. My mom felt the same about her entire salad. Many might argue that the lack of salt contributes to their healthy style but I've been to plenty of healthy joints that serve food with incredible flavor. I do think the place has great potential if they tone down those bright lights and close the establishment. The chicken needs a revamping and someone should make sure that food is kept warm.
