After canvassing the internet to find places in Miami with healthy vegan/macrobiotic food as well as local kombucha, Beehive rose to the top of the list. We love a good natural food store, and it is always a treat when they have a cafe or juice bar inside; Beehive was even better than we were hoping. After a walk around the aisles inspecting things like sprouted lentils, essential oils, and local honey, we were impressed with the wide variety of local and regional kombucha in their fridge: Brewing Life, Counter Culture, Golda, Tribucha, and Walker Bros. They also have rotating flavors of draft kombucha at their juice bar (Counter Culture at the time of our visit). After sitting down, we were warmly greeted by Carlos the owner and his friendly staff who were busily preparing smoothies and peeling sweet potatoes for their latest concoction. They have a different special meal of the day everyday; when we went, it was the "tres amigos," which is a sweet potato/plantain mixture on top of a layer of mashed red beans, topped with homemade pico de gallo. We loved this weird and cool dish, which came with a choice of sides (e.g. brown rice, sautéed vegetables). We also enjoyed the broccoli tofu quiche and the house salad. As we sat savoring our meal and sipping kombucha, we were offered samples of various tasty things: the soup of the day, tofu chicharrones, the "hulk" smoothie, and the chagaccino drink. All delicious and "highly addictive." The smoothies are innovative combinations of classic high quality ingredients that come together in delicious harmony. I went with a full-size version of the "iron man" and loved it. We had such a fantastic time chatting with Carlos who is clearly such a cornerstone in the Miami health food scene and has been for decades. This place had excellent customer employee relations. They greeted every customer that came in, offered samples of some lunch specials, made jokes and just had fun. There is a bit of a wait, however you should know that everything is fresh. And when I say a bit of a wait I don't mean wait like 30 minutes. I mean a little less, but still worth it seeing as how everything is made to order and delicious. The restaurant is located in a health food shop. The restaurant itself serves vegan items. They're pretty busy, meaning there's a constant flow of customers but they get to you. We ordered the an artichoke empanada, it was great. We also ordered a vegetable sandwich with the addition of hummus and micro greens. Washed it done with a mojito (no alcoholic) fresh pressed juice. The sandwich came with a sauce, it was delicious. Went there with my vegan friends who always introduce me to the most amazing hidden vegan gems! They didn't disappoint again! The place is more of a natural foods market and less of a restaurant only because of the size difference, but the quality is great! I tried a roasted eggplant, side of kale slaw and a side of soy Piccadillo! I loved it all. I'm not sure why I didn't take a picture of it! Now that I'm vegan, I have an entirely new appreciation for Beehive Juice Bar. The meal I had today was absolutely spectacular, and not for "vegan food." It was a delicious meal by any standard and for any diner. Since the place was busy, Carlos gave us a few samples of his soup du jour to start off with--a lovely split pea and carrot delight that I must order a bowl of soon. Today though, I was too intrigued by the entree served to the diner next to me so I ordered that--a Seitan pie paired with ​kale slaw. The crust on the Seitan Pie was flaky and the filling had a lot of umami flavor imparted by the mushrooms and some other lovely ingredients, with onion and seitan to round out the flavors. I couldn't resist getting the Mojito juice again​ and took two slices of vegan strawberry​ pie home for later, as well as a couple of empanadas for my son who has a long day today. The empanadas were made fresh today, as was the entree pie I had. Carlos the head chef at Beehive Juice Bar is a culinary genius. I saw an article about him and his cooking at the counter dated 2004. I come here periodically to buy herbs to make herbal teas. They have lots of herbs that are organic and are sold by weight. It really works out better to buy the lose herbs instead of packaged teas, everything is enhanced. About the counter service. They have lots of goodies that are vegan/vegetarian. I like to pick up samosas, empanadas, sometimes they have rice bowls, and they also have juices and smoothies. I also get wheat grass and ginger shots here, because the stuff is organic. The Beehive is a health food store that has a little cafe with a counter in the back. I love this place. Its so close to home. You can feel the good vibes as soon as you walk in, the staff is kind and helpful. I truly enjoy getting my healthy juices here, I always walk out with a smile. I discovered this place last month and have been here every single day since then! Delicious smoothies, sandwiches, salads and soups, at prices you cant beat. At first I were a little thrown off cause the place looks very rinky dinky, but don't let that deter you from enjoying some amazing food and juices. Carlos is behind the counter, pouring out samples of the day's specials so that you can pick which ones you want. Carlos is friendly and funny, making sure that you're happy there. I had the tuna sandwich,with a side salad, and the raw fruit pie. I loved it all! Carlos gave us a taste of the house smoothie, and was amazing. Carlos offered me samples of different things to try he was cracking jokes the whole time. He was also so courteous as to pull a chair out and bring me my sandwich and juice drink. Very unassuming and very unexpected but Beehive's got some items I need regularly in my life. Winners for me here range however I usually end up ordering the same and very rarely venture out which is a really bad thing since everything I've tried has never disappointed. Pastelito with guava and cheese (not really cheese but you'd never know) is awesome and every visit I make sure to buy a good 2 for me and 1 to share. The cupcakes are from "Tom" the sole baker for Unreal Foods who you'll usually find at fresh markets throughout the city or other local spots where he drops off. I'll pick up every now and then from Beehive cause I'm so trusting of the source- the vegan cupcakes are pretty darn good. Another regular on the menu for me is the Rainforest smoothie since I tend to go with the sweeter mixes and this one is perfect. I've had the soup and I've also had the empanada looking thing which is called Saltenia...I have no idea what's inside to know exactly what I'm eating but the flavors work and whatever is in there...it's good and it's meat free. I knock off a star ONLY because the location itself although better than before can still be a little overwhelming to handle. If the place is packed which it usually is during the week for lunch, there is ZERO parking and strict signs of towing if you go anywhere other than the market's spaces. I tend to get my items to go since I rarely find a space but yet none of this deters me from returning. The owner Carlos is funny and outgoing. I have been going to Beehive for years, but it's been about a year since my last order as I moved a little farther away. I'm not sure if Carlos is still there or not, but today's order seemed "off". The dough on the samosa empanada was very undercooked and the Mojito juice hardly had flavor, almost like it had been watered down. It definitely was not the bright beet/ginger flavor I remembered so fondly. The corn and soy Picadillo empanadas were still great, but I only received 1 of the 2 soy Picadillo empanadas we ordered. I had driven past this place a couple times and thought it was just a health store but it's so much more than that. They prepared me a DELICIOUS and healthy meal. I ordered a regular sized prescription juice, a tuna sandwich, and a couple of the tofu chicharrones. To begin, I don't know how they did it but the tofu tastes like real chicharrón. It is so crunchy and crisp. So well seasoned. Next, the tuna sandwich was absolutely amazing. The tuna was so fresh and so were the veggies inside. The bread is like a multigrain bread and it has little seeds inside. The savory of the tuna, mixed with the fresh and vibrant vegetables, plus the seeds and earthiness of the bread... it was the perfect mix of textures and flavors. AND it came with this miso dressing that tastes a lot like a garlic lemon dip they give at cuban restaurant. It's a little acidic and lemony and completes this sandwich. Lastly, I had the prescription juice which had apple, cucumber, kale, radish, pineapple, etc. I added sea moss for $2 extra. All in all, this was a very healthy and delicious meal for that I wasn't expecting to be THIS good. But it was. The staff was very friendly and inviting. It felt like I was home. Beehive is a South Miami gem and a savior for when you need delicious vegan options. I used to come to their old location regularly, and the new location is even better. My favorite dish from there is the mushroom seitan pie with roasted sweet potatoes on the side. It is the best vegan comfort meal you could ask for. I would pay good money for the recipe! Some other items that I love from there are the artichoke empanadas, brownies, and the Tres Amigos dish. I have never had anything here that I didn't like. The sandwiches are PACKED with veggies and are an amazing value. I sampled a rainforest smoothie and that was wonderful as well. Carlos (I believe the owner of the cafe?) is super friendly. He is very welcoming and always has a good selection of food to choose from for the day. It's obvious that he truly cares about both the food quality and experience, and I appreciate that a lot. Sometimes the wait time can be a bit long, so come when you have a decent amount of time to sit and enjoy your meal. Beehive juice bar is a little health nut gem. Food bar on one side. The food servers are really nice, especially the one older gentlemen that I've seen a few times. Most options are vegetarian/vegan. I've had vegan empanadas and spice cake that were both really tasty. It seems to me like they have a rotating lunch menu, so everything is fresh for that day. I've had many of their smoothies including rain forest, black mamba and kitchen sink. Cheaper than other smoothie stores you would find locally, but not my favorite. Something about the texture makes them taste off to me and i'm not sure why. The store part is interesting, I've walked through it a few times. I would just be careful with the perishables.
