WEST WINDSOR: Grover's Mill Coffee House is everything you would hope for in a local coffee shop: exceptional food and drinks, a warm, inviting atmosphere, and a unique connection to history. Just three miles from the legendary landing site in Orson Welles' War of the Worlds broadcast in 1938, the cafe embraces its Martian roots with playful nods throughout: artwork, posters, themed merchandise, and menu items inspired by the iconic event. Leashed, friendly dogs are welcome both inside the cafe and on the outdoor patio, making it a perfect stop for pet lovers. The drink menu is impressively varied, offering everything from classic coffee, tea, and espresso to seasonal specials and frozen treats. Light fare includes egg and cheese sandwiches, croissants, bagels, and fresh pastries. One standout: the "Green Alien," a pistachio and white mocha latte that is as delicious as it is memorable. There are doggie treats behind the counter. The staff is genuinely welcoming and clearly enjoy seeing both their regulars and their four-legged guests. As a bonus, the shop is also environmentally conscious, brewing with organic beans and incorporating sustainable practices into their daily operations. Thank you to a local we met at Van Nest Park who told us about this place.

Grovers's Mill Coffee House is a charming local coffee shop backed by the lore of a pseudo- historical "martian landing" that occurred in near by Grover's Mill. The interior is comfortable and decorated to celebrate the Orson Wells Martian Landing story. The owner, Isa, is very personable and friendly. All the baristas I have encountered are also welcoming and efficient. The coffee and fresh scones and croissants are all good.

My first time here was a great one! I stopped here yesterday while passing through town and had such a great experience. I ordered an iced tea, and the owner shared that it was brewed fresh! I was able to pick from a variety of teas. I chose a plum pear black tea, which was absolutely delicious! He offered to add some lemonade or sweetener, but I wanted it unsweetened, and it was still delicious. My fault, I was distracted looking at everything, I did not see the sign at the checkout that said $10 credit card minimum. It was an obvious sign, so that is totally my fault. So, I purchased a bag of coffee beans to try their coffee. The flavor is almond delight, and owner shared that he had just bagged them this morning. He ground the beans for me, and I tried them today. Absolutely excellent! I will look into if they provide shipping... Next time I pass through town, I will definitely add this to my stop list! They had soups and some other small food items, and pastries. I would really like to try them at some point!

Such a great place to get coffee!! Stopped in for a quick drink and got a green latte (pistacho + white mocha), brown sugar latte, & a matcha latte. The staff is super friendly and the owner is super kind!! They have many drink options and some light bites, like egg bites, oats, pastries, etc. There are great vibes inside and I would come here again just to get a drink and hang out. Coffee tasted great and I can't wait to try more flavors here :) definitely go to this place, it's worth it!

Grover's Mill Coffee House is a hidden community gem in West Windsor. It's tucked away in a non-descript location in strip mall, but would do great business if located in a more central spot with more foot traffic. I was never overly impressed with the spot before, but a recent change in ownership and re-investment in the interiors have made this a welcoming place, as evidenced by largely excellent recent reviews. What's so special about Grover's Mill Coffee House? They embrace the local history of the town, made famous in 1938 with a local radio broadcast where Grover's Mill was the fictional landing spot of aliens and had locals in frenzy believing aliens had landed. The interiors have very tasteful alien theme, complete with paintings and a War of the Worlds poster....very unique! The decor is a solid 5/5, and the place has ample indoor and outdoor seating. Now that theme, decor, and atmosphere are out of the way, I can mention that they roast their own coffee beans on premises throughout the day. One of the owners saw me taking pictures and was kind enough to point me to take a picture in the back where beans were actively being roasted. I'm not big on coffee, so went with a mocha latte and a cinnamon scone. The drink was high quality without being overly sweet, and the cinnamon scone similarly hit all the right flavor notes, and had me wondering why I don't stop by this wonderful coffee shop more often. Prices are reasonably in line or maybe even slightly cheaper than that of Starbucks, but with Grover's Mill Coffee House, you're supporting a local business that is trying hard to put out great product and has a super cute and unique atmosphere you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere in Central New Jersey. They have a small menu of food, so you can have a small breakfast, lunch, or mid-day snack along with your caffeine jolt, and they are now open 7 days a week. And yes, they even have alien-shaped cookies.

A nice coffee shop with a quirky twist. Grovers Mill was the landing spot for the aliens in the Orson Wells. Radio show war of the worlds. There are some interesting historical documents, and an embrace of the quirky alien theme. Nevertheless, they have a good selection of house, roasted beans, and I had an Ethiopian pour over which was on point. My sister thought the egg bites were delightful. I had the Chia without milk, which I thought was quite good.

On October 30, 1938, Orson Welles went on live air to give his famous "War of the Worlds" broadcast to declare that there was an attack from Mars heading to the US, particularly to the small city of Grover's Mill in New Jersey. People went crazy and the world began to panic. When Orson Welles found out that people went into this frenzy, he went back onto the air and told people that this was merely fiction... Grover's Mill Coffee and Tea House pays homage to this fateful event with War of the Worlds theme found throughout their coffee house. But doesn't give a scary or creepy vibe at all. Inside you will find news clippings regarding the broadcast and event, a large poster from the remake of War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise, a metal alien and other alien paraphernalia in the unisex restroom (which was clean and adequately stocked with the essentials). My husband, our little girl dog and I were making a road trip from Philadelphia to New Jersey and made sure to make this one of the stops along our drive (roadsideamerica.com is a great to look up places to stop along your next road trip) because of its uniqueness. This coffee house is located in a shopping plaza with outdoor (covered and dog friendly) seating. After looking over the menu board, we ended up ordering: (Please note that there is a $5 minimum for credit card transactions) Medium Iced Chai Latte, $5.92 after tax- This should have come out to $5.82 with tax but for some reason we were overcharged $0.10. This drink was good but had way too much ice and was a little watered down. To be honest, if I was just to judge this place based on this drink, I would probably give this place a lower rating because I have definitely had a better chai latte. The employees at the register were very friendly and wait time for our drink was not long. But if I lived in the area, I would be willing to give this place another try. In addition to coffee and tea, this place also sells personalized gift baskets, desserts, baked goods, etc. If you are in the area or passing through, it may be worth a visit, especially if you are a fan of War of the Worlds.

Great service and one of the best chai's I've ever had. I got their seasonal pumpkin chai with oat milk and added an espresso shot to make it dirty. So fantastic and fresh tasting! Will be coming back for this drink specifically because it was that good. Cute and quirky inside with alien- based decor. Very niche place!

I found this place after googling coffee shops in New Jersey I should hit. I'm glad I went here. The staff is knowledgeable about the coffee, as well as super welcoming. My girlfriend and I both had cappuccinos, which were perfectly made. We also had a biscotti, which hit the spot. The owner was a real gentleman, and the vibe was chill without being pretentious.

    Beans you can buy!

I'm extremely disappointed... That I hadn't come here sooner. Grover's Mill Coffee House is an excellent cafe for chill meetings, catching up with friends, getting into a pleasant mood, and all around having a good time. The thing that struck me upon first walking in was how large it was from the inside, it's deceptively big. The guy at the register was super friendly and even brought over my drink to me while I was setting up my workspace. In gerenal, the atmosphere was friendly and inviting which goes a long way. They have some interesting decorations involving aliens and a little billboard with some community postings there. There are seats both inside and outside, on a nice day (like when I went), you'll see plenty of people sitting under the umbrellas either chatting or with a laptop out. As I sat around inside, I was awestruck by just how many patrons struck up nice conversation with the barista, all around, I think this is a great little spot with a nice community! I can see why it's so popular. Usually when I go to these types of places solo, it's to get a little work done through writing or taking notes. I have to say, this place blows my current favorite out of the water for that kind of study session. There's so much room to bring up a laptop, the wifi password is readily available, and the coffee is just really damn good. I definitely plan on returning very soon. As of now, this is my fav cafe in my area.

    Drip drop, delicious coffee

What a delightful coffee and "breakfast" place. I put quotes around the word breakfast because they cook until closing. The owner's father is personable and the entire staff are all very knowledgeable on their beans. Some places (notice I didn't say "roastery") don't know beans about their coffee. They were taught how to make the coffees and espresso, yada yada yada yada by route but these people know the beans, origins, and they have a great passion for what they do. The coffees are reflective. The ambiance is cozy, abeit the War of the World's theme if you're not into science fiction. They have posters, a mural, the robot and an alien in a jar. If you have heard the broadcast of War of the World's, you'd understand the theme. You must ask yourself, is this The place Orson Welles was speaking about in his radio broadcast? Hmmmmmm.... The prices for their beverages and food are very fair. Everything was excellent.

    Rise & Shiner breakfast sandwich
    Karly K.

Always stop by here when I can. The staff is super friendly and their coffee is excellent. A special flavor rotating called cinnamon buttercream--not too sweet, very smooth. I order their breakfast sandwiches sometimes on the crispiest bagels! And the rise & shiner (on grain bread with sriracha mayo, Swiss, & spinach) could use more egg as it's thinly packed, but still yummy. They use iced coffee cubes to keep things cold and not water down--genius! Scones look yummy and want to try their paninis and soups for lunch. Outdoor seating available.

    Front entrance

Great drinks and service. Busy morning, but the guy taking orders was excellent. Pretty inexpensive. Spacious but cozy inside with seating as well as seating outside. Great character. 10/10.

We were surprised to find out they use real tuna...not the canned tuna! All the Onigiri tasted great. The mushroom was my favorite. There was also some event going on there that day. We bought cookies and cheese parfait. We loved the cookies - tastes like real ube, hojicha and sesame! My husband enjoyed the cheese parfait...I was disappointed because I was expecting a sweet tiramisu taste based on how it looked! However, if you don't care for sweetness, you'd enjoy it. It tastes like cheese, yogurt and berries. Def more of a parfait than the sweet type of tiramisu/cheesecake.

The syrups have a casual sweetness but not too much flavor. I really like the sweetness balance because the matcha flavor comes through, but I'm not a fan of the lack of presence in the syrup. The Sakura and Mango drinks, for example, are very well-balanced, but you can hardly taste the fruit. For those who like sweet drinks, they have simple syrup to add, which I wouldn't personally recommend unless you really want to (by taste--try it first). However, there's no way to increase the fruit presence unless they did so in their in-house syrup. For a $9 latte, I would expect to taste the syrup a bit more. That being said, again, the matcha itself is very decent, smooth, fragrant and flavorful. I imagine I'd enjoy the hot, simple matcha a lot more than the lattes and would recommend matcha enjoyers to try those menu items instead. The in-house milling is also an interesting component. The interior feels industrial, partially due to the milling. The industrial pillars and concrete floor follow suit. I don't really know how I feel about that, but there's a decent amount of seating. They also have private WiFi, so it's a good place to come and wfh or study. Service is quick and the workers are very nice. All in all, I'd recommend. I'll stop by again if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

The employees behind the counter were cheerful, and they say a phrase in Japanese that means, "welcome," which is a nice touch. The first thing I noticed in the shop was the matcha mill. They actually have two matcha mills running the entire time, and the employee later told me that it's milling and grinding the matcha to get the freshest matcha possible. Grinding and serving the matcha from its fresh ground state really makes their matcha stand out, and I could definitely tell. I was thinking about getting a cold matcha anyway because I didn't want to microwave it later, but they informed me that their machine for hot matcha wasn't working. That is not the best situation for people who wanted a hot drink, especially since it was so cold and damp outside, but I was really interested in a cold drink anyway, so it didn't really bother me. I got their red bean matcha with oat milk, and I was so happy when I drank it because it tasted like actual real matcha. I've gotten matcha at Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts and I haven't expected anything phenomenal, but I've also gotten matcha at matcha shops and the matcha just doesn't taste right because it was too sweet. This matcha, however, tasted exactly the way matcha should taste! I really, really enjoyed my drink so much, and they serve it unsweetened. I didn't even need to put sweetener in it, but I did put a tiny bit of simple syrup. All I have to say is definitely try this place. You will not be disappointed. Needless to say, my drink was unsweetened the first time, but still tasty and good enough for me to return. By my second visit, I figured this out as I watched someone else add the syrup to their drink. I literally added a couple of drops because I actually enjoy it when it's not overly sweet. This place has been on my go to coffee shops for a while now and I finally got the opportunity to…read morego. Their specialty coffees do not disappoint. I had to get to just to try and I will definitely be back to try some seasonal flavors as well as their teas and Matcha. The freddo is creamy sweet and has a nice kick from the espresso. Definitely a very light drink. The iced caramel latte was pretty standard, but what put it over the top was the espresso, whipped cream highly recommend adding the espresso whipped cream to whatever beverage you get! The staff was friendly and helpful with recommendations, as well as bringing my drinks out to me on the patio . There is nowhere to sit on the inside, but there is an outdoor patio that is beautiful especially on a nice breezy fall afternoon. I can't wait to come back and try some other drink drinks that they have as well as their food items!!
