    This is a LARGE coffee??!!
    Brian M.

Original review below this review: Updated Review: I thought I'd give this business the benefit of the doubt and try them again. I should have listened to my instincts. A 10 oz coffee (see pic) is considered a large?? At $2.75 for this size I can get a larger cup of coffee at Starbucks, and it will be far less bitter. A black coffee from here is almost undrinkable. Original Review: I'm sorry, but I wanted so badly for this to be a great little new find in Hightstown, so I was very excited when I saw the "coming soon" sign for a specialty coffee shop right near my house. Unfortunately this establishment has a ways to go before they will get my business again. To start off with the espresso was EXTREMELY bitter, almost undrinkable. There's also nothing to the decor that's inviting in any way. There's very little si, and what there is of seating is not comfortable in any way. There's also misc. cleaning supplies and such in the main seating area and just randomly out and about. Perhaps they are still in "soft launch" mode, so I will keep an eye out to see if things change as I drive by. The other difficulty is parking, as there is no real place to park aside from fighting with the bank and post office for street parking.

Found this little gem a couple of weeks ago. When you walk in it smells like coffee heaven. The employees are so friendly and attentive. The coffee is perfection! The sweet goodies are excellent! I love their butter scones, not to sweet and they go perfect with the coffee. Visit them please. They will not disappoint. There is parking on the side of the establishment.

Love the coffee! I am becoming a bit of a coffee snob because of this place! The flavor of the coffee is amazing, its smooth, and fresh! The owner is extremely friendly, and will make it however you like!

This place is an amazing hidden gem nestled in downtown Hightstown. Great coffee to go or to bring home and brew - and they also have oat milk! Really cute storefront. Lovely customer service.

What a treat to have a coffee roaster right here in town! Whenever I drive by or have time for a stroll, I get something. There is ample parking right across the street in front of the post office (huge spaces too, no need for parallel parking expertise!) and around the corner. My favorite on a cool day is an oat milk latte. On a hot day, I enjoy getting an iced cafe americano. I have also purchased their freshly roasted coffee beans and luckily my BIL has a coffee grinder and can make the good stuff fresh for us when we go to his house. Service is friendly and efficient!

One of my favorite coffee places! When I am in area I like to grab a latte from here. Lattes are one of best here can't go wrong!

Amazing iced coffee and they take contactless payment. Only downside is they don't really have a lot of food options. Just some cookies.

Now that I've been pulling espressos at home, I've started using their freshly roasted whole beans.

There's plenty of indoor seating, and the outdoor seating area is spacious and really elevates the whole atmosphere in the warm weather. The baristas are consistently kind, quick, and talented, and the drinks come out perfect every single time. I'm a huge local coffee shop fan, and not every shop nails consistency, but Black River Roasters has gotten it right without fail since the day they opened. I've been coming here since they first opened their doors, and their coffee is still tough to beat. Truly some of the best coffee I've ever had!

First impressions: wow, this place is huge for a coffee shop. Black River roasts their own coffee beans in house, which is always nice and means you're getting some high quality caffeine. Seasonal flavors included pumpkin, bourbon maple, and apple cinnamon -- so you already know you're getting quality, since these aren't flavors you can get just anywhere. I loved the signage depicting staff favorite drink mixes as it adds a fun touch to the menu! Coffee was great, my only complaint is that with syrups the drink can get way too sweet (especially since I typically drink unsweetened coffee.) Make sure to ask for less syrup and you'll be good to go! Can't wait to return!

I love their Decaf and I love their Espresso Blend. I enjoy that the place is quiet, relatively smell free (just coffee smell that you'd expect), and that the staff is friendly. I double checked that they had public wifi before ordering and then found a spot along the window to sit. They have a simple menu with everything you'd want from the basics to a few seasonal drinks, but I stuck with my go to oat milk latte. What's to love: -The staff was friendly and kind and my iced latte came out super quick. -There isn't too much seating, but what they have they made cozy and perfect for person to sit, hang out, chat with friends, etc. -My iced latte was pretty good! Good to know before you go: The wifi was terrible, unfortunately. I had to pack up and find another place to work because I could just not get any sort of internet. That, plus there being no bathroom makes this a less than ideal spot for remote workers/students looking to hunker down. They are right on Palmer Square (next door to Bent Spoon) and would be the ideal spot to grab a drink and sit outside.
