If there were a negative star (Charlie Sheen?), that would be the rating. This would take far too long, so I'll number it and try to be concise: 1) Sales Rep told us "no demo required" and drafted a plan for somewhere between 9-11 galvanized steel piers to be driven into "bedrock" (later explained to not be the case). 2) $10K deposit already processed when the crew showed up. a) "This diagram is inaccurate." "We need to go under the deck and rip up the first 8-10 planks". b) Wrong - we can't go under the deck. "We need to chisel out the floor at the rear of the garage to install 4 piers there". 3) AFTER I was told they had to go in through the garage floor, I told them not to come back, and I needed a day to review all changes, send me a new contract, and drawings. After digesting all the changes, I called and asked if I should grab some 12 mil plastic sheeting to cover up everything in the garage. Digging, cement dust, dirt = headaches. "The crew will take care of all of that for you". After you read this, LOOK at the garage pics, and EVERYTHING the crew DID NOT cover. Free of charge, I get to take everything from my garage and remove the layers of cement dust and dirt off all of it. All my tools, the kayaking equipment, all chairs, the 9 ft high shelving - EVERYTHING. They only had to say "yeah, probably a good idea", and they'd be off the hook. But not Ground Works. It's a DNA thing to just tell anyone what they want to hear. That would have taken me 45 minutes, but now I get to spend hours on another Keystone cops outcome. 4) This 3-4 day job, tomorrow am, 23 Jun, will be day 14. 5) They had an excavator, all the dirt, boulders, and other loose stones parked on the side of the lawn for 13 days before removal. 6) AFTER finally removing the excavator - 22 June - the crew told me I was supposed to remit payment. a) They haven't addressed the large crack in the corner of the garage, and b) I financed 60% of the job through their 3rd party finance company, GreenSky. There is no money owed them, once they finish - it's now on a payment plan through GreenSky. PS - Their office has NO IDEA how this works. Called 3 times to ensure billing would be applied to the account we were approved for. NO CLUE AT ALL. 7) They also had to dig to the foundation on the R side of the garage (known). They dug it up to spill over the retaining wall into the neighbor's driveway. The neighbors couldn't use half their driveway for the same two weeks due to dirt and stones falling into their driveway. Read GROK (preferred AI), & their BBB ratings (33 W Bacon St, Plainville, MA specifically). There is always an excuse, and it's death by a thousand cuts with these guys. I NEVER WANT ANY COMPANY TO LOSE WORK, because there are too many people who lose business because ppl want their butts kissed. Absolutely not the case here. LOOK at the pics, and imagine this is your yard, your house, and all the extra work you get to do after they've left. This is only written so no one else has to go through anything like this, and I'm kicking myself for not trusting my gut. When you see the images of their dump truck in my neighbor's driveway, that's when the home office told the kid to run to Home Depot and jack in some hydraulic cement into a large foundational crack. It was exposed when digging, but they never addressed it. Now it's "sealed" only from the ground up. Good riddance, and I'll dig it out myself to not have them come back. THAT'S how they completed the job. Remember, this company told us 3-4 days. The ONLY reason I agreed to ripping up the garage floor was that I would have it back in a few days. The left hand never knows what the right hand is doing. I hope they read this, and refute it - I'll be happy to elaborate further, this is enough for now. Terrible communication. No one knows what's going on. I've had them come back at their convenience, not mine, if they showed up at all. Multiple problems with water getting into my basement, even today. Six months now. Freezer left unplugged twice, all food had to be thrown out. Someone stepped on my freezer, leaving a boot print. Said it had to be me. I don't wear large men's boots. Never reimbursed for any of it. I am still fighting to get a water free basement. I hate them. Worst choice I could have made. Once the work began Foreman Chad provided regular updates and photographic documentation of the process. He was friendly and attentive. Two on his team, Brad and Aven were pleasant and hardworking. They worked a 12 hour day to get the job done on time. (Note: please collect the names of the other one day workers that accompanied Brad, as I don't have their names, and they deserve praise and acknowledgement for their contributions). The end result was good, and the crew that worked on our concrete pool deck was professional and did a great job. Unfortunately, nearly every other part of the experience was frustrating. After I accepted the original quote and signed up for financing, the salesperson called back and said the price would actually be about 20% higher because he had miscalculated the scope. We still moved forward because the revised price seemed reasonable. Scheduling and communication were a constant challenge. The project was pushed back multiple times, and I was told the crew would arrive first thing in the morning only to find out they wouldn't be there until the afternoon, disrupting my work schedule. The salesperson also set expectations that the crew later explained weren't realistic. When I questioned one aspect of the job, the crew told me they had asked the salesperson about it and were simply told it was out of scope and to move on, with no attempt to discuss it with me or find a solution. Management eventually stepped in and tried to resolve the issues, which I appreciated, but unfortunately did not follow through on what was discussed. Overall, the crew did quality work and I'm happy with the final result, but the quoting, communication, scheduling, and follow-through made getting there far more difficult than it should have been. read more

FYl. If anyone is looking to waterproof your basement and or crawi space, l have some good advice. Don't under any circumstances hire Groundwork's, formerly known as Ohio basement authority. I hired them November 2025 and today they finally finished the job. It's been a complete nightmare dealing with this company. I ended up losing 40 hours of my PTO and many Saturdays, they would set up appointments to fix the problem they created but end up no call no show. I would call and promised they would resolve the issue then not hearing back from them again and again. It would be the same promises. So to Cooper, Nate, Tony, Nicole and Rocco. I Will never recommend your company to anyone. I'm happy to be able to update this review on Groundworks! The GM came out personally to look at the job and said he would correct all the issues created by his crew. Guess what he kept his word! Mostly everything was fixed back to its condition before they came out. Now with all the recent snow and all the melting thats taking place, my basement would have been a literal disaster. But its not, its super dry and smells great and is airtight. I'm so thankful I called them when I did and that the work was completed in time for the snow fall. I 'm also super thankful to the GM for being thoughtful and following thru on his commitment to provide a superb service along with great customer service. read more

I had them come out to check my sump and i had never maintained it in 12 years so the pump was dead. busy dog installed it and now they are called Groundworks. Ian came and explained it all and i have a second pump which we took care of as well. So both new pumps and Ian was a real professional and I am very happy. I signed the contract June 1st. Worst decision I ever made! Poor communication! Poor workmanship! Do yourself a favor and stay away. My experience: They scheduled encapsulation without confirming with me. June 7, no show, no call (rain) June 19-20 Encapsulation. Was told someone would call on Monday the 22nd regarding doors, no call until the 24th or 25th. July 9 Bob told me he will be here to do the doors on 7/13 between 8-10am July 13 three guys show up at 11:30. No Bob. The guys spent a lot of time on the phone with the boss (Bob) who is in the hospital, trying to figure out how to do it and getting instructions throughout the process, all over the phone! Left at 1:00 to go get hardware for the doors. Why didn't they have it with them? Returned shortly after 2:30 Again, back on the phone with Bob, throughout the process . I questioned they way things are getting done and Bob says "why are we listening to her rather than focusing on what we are doing." I told them I have dinner guests coming at 4:30. Workers left at 5:00 telling me one door is done and they will be back in the morning. I reviewed the work done: cuts are crooked. Door is too long, below ground level. Trim is installed crooked. Big gap on the hinge side. Flimsy material, flops around. Hardware sticking out, cut myself. I spoke to Nick at 5:20 and told him I do not want them back, I am done! I told him I have house guests and am done. He said we will talk in the morning. July 14-20th, no calls July 21, the scheduler called me to follow up. I requested detailed bill so I could pay my bill less the cost of the doors. July 22, the salesman called me as I was headed out for vacation. As of today, still no detailed bill. read more

I wish I had read some of these reviews before I have them a deposit. It took 3 appointments to just get someone to my house for a "free estimate" then showed up on the wrong day and a day I was very busy. I very reluctantly decided to go with them, as the representative stated he would definitely stay on top of things as he was the project manager. So gave a deposit (dumb) Im thinking now reputable companies should NOT require a deposit, because on the first day they no showed no called. They finally reached out and said the crew just didnt bother to show up. Great, but what do I do, they daid them give me a discount. Ugh scheduled another day and of course after waiting around for 1.5 hours no show no call again. No response from texts sent to the office woman Holly who said to call or text and she would respond as that was her mobile number. And still they have a pretty large deposit. Absolutely horrible. Had a bad winter with the Blizzard '26. Freeze and thaw cracked foundation. After reviewing and researching for a reputable and capable company, I called Groundworks. Ben Settle, the Inspector came out and did a thorough in-depth review and analysis. He had the answer to our situation. Peter Greene walked us through operations process/finance options. Everything was so reasonable. We were in good hands. Jacqui Yarrell assisted us several times as well. These folks really took care of us. Then a team of non-stop nose to the grindstone professionals led by Troy Wiley literally dug in. They knew their business without a doubt. Scheduled a free inspection for a suspected moisture issue. The inspector that came out and told me I had major foundation issues that could cost tens of thousands of dollars to address. It was an alarming visit. We were so spooked, that we hired a licensed structural engineer, at a cost of $800, to assess our foundation and home. They found no issues. I would recommend hiring a structural engineer before moving forward with a project proposed by Groundworks. read more

Avoid this company. "Brian" from GroundWorks arrived at my house for an estimate to address a wet basement on June 18, 2026. We agreed on a French Drainage System. He drafted a contract and I signed it. I gave a deposit check for $4,194.07. On Friday June 19, 2026 at 10:50AM I cancelled the contract citing health reasons. "Brian" accepted the cancellation and assured me in writing, on a phone exchange, that my check would be destroyed. I told him that to make extra sure I would send a copy of the cancellation to his office ­­ which I did. He replied in writing, that it wasn't necessary as the check had been destroyed. I didn't need to waste a stamp as the destroyed check had been added to my file. On July 21, 2026 "Brian" sent me a message inquiring about the condition of my basement. I didn't get back to him. On July 29, 2026, at 1:11PM "Brian" messaged me that my check had been cashed. 6 weeks after he assured me that the check had been destroyed someone "accidentally" cashed my check. I tried to stop payment but I couldn't because the check had been cashed 3 days prior. To date a refund has not been issued. On August 18, 2026, after I filed a police report and reported them to the Massachusetts Attorney General GroundWorks printed a FedEx label with a tracking number pretending they had issued a refund. FedEx confirmed that there is no physical parcel attached to that number, that GroundWorks never gave them an item to deliver attached to that number, and therefore no tracking is possible. I've also reported them to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I hired Groundworks to reroute my sump pump piping. When the crew arrived I asked to revalidate that the water coming out of the drywell would not run back towards the house. Unfortunately it is... During the installation when they were digging they ran into my downspout pipe. Their recommendation was to cut my downspout pipe (which was about half way between my house and the dry well), and add a 4 way connector so that the sump pump piping could route through it. There's now a serious leak from doing this (see photos and video). Not only is the water coming up through the ground, its also come up out of my downspout and ruining everything around it. I'm very worried that the water will eventually leak into my house due to the downspout being connected to it. Finally, the crew left multiple pieces of trash in the yard, my pavers in random spots, and left a giant puddle with dirt and mud in my basement. I've called multiple times, been told that the Service Manager will reach out to me, and still have not heard back. Would love for someone to come to fix the leak and reroute the piping to a place where any of the water coming of of the drywell doesn't flow back to the house...incredibly disappointing! read more

Hired Groundworks (formerly Busy Dog) to add onto a Busy Dog system installed earlier this year. Waited 2 months for them to come. During the quoting process the operation manager identifies another area that may have water issues. Says he wants to open the wall in that area at demo. Crew comes and does demo and opens spot where manager thought there may be water. Confirms there is water there. I tell crew that I want them to continue to open wall to see how far water comes in on that wall. Foreman agrees to do the work. Next day crew returns puts in drain, cements everything over and leaves. Still have water coming in additional location. I ask foreman why he didn't open like we discussed. Says it wasn't on initial spec. I questioned why a change order wasn't initiated and why they cemented in drain when they will need to attache more drain to it. I am told to "talk to the office". I eventually talk to the general manager and we agree on a price to extend on to additional wall. So I say is the crew coming back tomorrow to finish. GM says to talk to sales guy, sales guy says he needs to talk to operations. Been a week and my walls are still torn open and I had to remove baseboard heat in that space so they could do the work. I tried calling and get dumped into voicemail. So now I am left leaving reviews on Yelp and messaging the CEO and President on LinkedIn. Very unprofessional. read more

I had a crack in the foundation of my house and called Groundworks to give me an estimate. The inspector/ salesman came and spent 2.5 hours (appointment was supposed to be 1.5 hours max) at my home, telling me I had a structural issue and needed repair asap. I waited a week (scared that my house was in trouble) and followed up with him for the estimate. He said he had the estimate but refused to email it to me, saying he wanted to meet me and go over it in person. I said I'd like to see it first so that I may formulate questions, as I like to sit with information and think about it. He said ok he would send it, but would still like to meet for 20 minutes to go over it in person. We arrange to meet, and in the interim he does not send me the estimate as promised. So I have literally no idea what to expect. Once we meet, he shows me the scope of work, tells me the situation is drastic and needs to be fixed to the tune of $13,000. After seeing my shock, he says he can give me a discount if I sign the contract the day of him reviewing it with me. Now 50 minutes into his proposal, I remind him that I have to leave (and will now be late for my next appointment because he told me it would only take 20 minutes), but I will think about it and will get back to him that day as I would not like to lose the discount. He then tells me the day of discount actually means right this moment, that if I leave I will be ineligible. But not to worry, he can take my card right now...seriously?! What a scam!! This guy is such a snake oil salesman. I also did not appreciate that he asked me to sit and look at his computer while he towered over me insisting I give him my credit card information. That kind of intimidation tactic, of a man over a woman, is despicable, quite frankly. I would NEVER ever use this company! I ended up going with RamJack, btw, who were very pleasant and offered a lifetime guarantee of their work. I did not use, but also had a pleasant experience with, Pioneer Basement. Their guarantee was only 20 years, so I did not go with them, but I thought they were great and will use them to waterproof my basement in the future. Have an issue with basement walkout detaching from home, was worried about foundation. Called for a free inspection, but a salesman showed up, not an inspector or engineer. He told us they'd install piers to lift the structure. He then started looking at our drainage. We don't have water in basement and he also never stepped foot inside the house to inspect. Sold us on the piers and 3 French drains. Told us they were booking 3 weeks out. Told us to have two vinyl fence gates and posts removed so his equipment could get in the yard. We signed for over $10k worth of work and put down a $2300 downpayment. Salesperson messages 3 days later with an install date 4 months out, not 3 weeks out as he had sold us on. We said no, he then came back with 2 months out so we agreed, we had our fences removed. One week out, contractor comes to paint dig lines and says the structure is concrete and they can't lift it. He was supposed to send someone out to see what could be done if not the work promised. Nobody showed nobody called. Our original install date came and went without a peep. We tried numerous numbers and emailed our original sales rep directly. No returned calls, no returned emails. We have been ghosted for over 3 weeks now and all we want is our deposit returned as the work promised was not done and based an this poor relationship management we wouldn't want it done anyways. Our money is being withheld and their is a complete breach of contract. leaving this review seems like my only chance at getting a response. I will never recommend Groundwork's to anyone, its been a time consuming and terrible experience. I'm entitled to the return of my deposit. read more
