Groundwork is a staple place in the sense that it provides quality drinks with enough options to explore but not too many that it's overwhelming. I always get their matcha latte iced with oat/cinnamon and it always tastes the same, very yummy! So no complaints on consistency but I do wish they added just a bit more matcha so it wasn't too milky. Their house milk is really unique and delicious! But it's not always consistent which is understandable since it's made in house. Nonetheless, although a bit overpriced, I do love this place and will continue to stop in for my usual from time to time. read more

RUDE RUDE RUDE! This location is so unfriendly, unwelcoming and unprofessional. I have been to other Groundworks in the LA area and have had great experiences but I will never visit this location again. I came with my sister and her service dog that she has had for a few years following a personal trauma. The dog wears a clearly marked vest, has a scannable ID, and is the most mellow dog. Not only did the person taking her order ask if it was a service dog but then insinuated that she was a fake service dog and informed her that dogs are not allowed. Being that we were getting coffee to go and not wanting to share the reasons she has a service dog in the first place with the whole place she ordered and waited outside. EXTREMELY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. We received our lattes and they were pretty much glorified warm milks. I think we were lucky to get half a shot in each. I also had to wait 20+ minutes to get a scone and a burrito because there is no organization to the food service. I have also never seen people move slower during the normal morning rush. Someone needs to give the staff here a lesson on customer service because it is severely lacking. read more

Came here for coffee and baked goods with my folks over the holidays. I opted for an espresso drink made-to-order, since the coffees are self-serve in thermoses. I ordered a medium non-fat latte and it was delicious! None of the breakfast baked goods wowed me so I picked a breakfast-like cookie, the banana oatmeal. It was so good! Moist, chewy, and just the right amount of sweet. Topped with two dried banana slices. My parents got the holiday blend beans to go (which we enjoyed on subsequent mornings). Among all the groundwork branches I like this one most. First for the location, still close to the beach but not in the most touristy areas, which means parking is easier to find in the nearby streets. Second the coffee is just great. I especially like the Vietnamese iced coffee, it's so rich, creamy and refreshing, and I didn't see other branches selling it. Third the wooden interior and the lighting make this place pretty chill. I couldn't remember if there was a window in the ceiling that let in natural sunlight from the top, but this place does not feel so modern and busy like other branches. Delicious cold brew coffee. The brunch menu is also great. The Bitches Brew Hash is amazing. Just make sure to ask them to make the eggs the way you like them. This Groundworks location is one of my favorite things about Venice. It truly has that local indie coffeehouse vibe. I always see a familiar face there, the employees are sweet and patient, and the clientele is always friendly and eclectic. This is the only place I trust for a perfect cup of coffee or an expertly-made espresso drink, every single time. The coffee is never burnt or stale or watery. In proper hippie Venice spirit, you can get your espresso drink made with any non-dairy milk under the sun: soy, almond, hemp, rice, etc. Their food menu and baked goods selection blow all other coffeehouse food items out of the water. Gotta subtract a star for the *horrendous* parking lot with too few and too narrow spaces. Also, lines at peak times on weekday mornings can often stretch out the door, making it impossible to grab a quick cup of coffee before work. Breakfast is amazing here! My favorite is the breakfast burrito, without chorizo and either the breakfast tacos or the avocado toast. They all come paired with potatoes (except avo toast). Delicious! And the coffee is super strong, but very rich. I dislike the tiny space here, it's definitely better to take out. If u want to sit and eat I recommend the downtown la one, its much spacious. read more

Groundwork is not all hype, it is all real. The coffee is all too good, and the ambiance is way way better. I'm not sure if this just happens to be a good find, or if I've just sunk myself into a trap thinking that I was the cool before the cool. But Groundwork is the bees knees. All the hip Venice/LA vibes aside, Groundwork offers good coffee, plain and simple. It's just great coffee. The cold brew is strong and bold, but the flavor is almost chocolatey, rich, full and thoroughly satisfying. The depth of flavor in the coffee is really incredible. The ambiance of the shop is really great, I love that it's so cute, and fun looking. The shop is probably not the best place to study, but it's a great place for a little coffee date. read more

I live right around the corner from this location and come here at least three times a week. The coffee is amazing, service is friendly, and the breakfast is so tasty! I usually get the latte or dirty chai latte on cooler days and cold brew on warm days. I will say there is some variation to the lattes depending on who's making it- I'm always astounded with how good it is when the older guy makes it! I really like this coffee shop. It has a bit of a New Orleans vibe because of the older building with beautiful brick walls, wooden structure and the funky layout. Also, their music playlist is amazing with a mix of jazz, blues and soul. There's also a nice outdoor space for sipping coffee and chatting. My latte was really nice as well. I love Groundwork Coffee! I work down the street so I try to support this local establishment whenever I get the chance. Great, coffee, friendly staff, good pastries. I often get fivestar rewards for free or half off drinks. Without the rewards it can get pricey, but its worth the quality. I've tried the horchata latte, oatmeal chocolate chip cookie and a lot of their drip coffees. They also have milkshakes and espresso affogato, that I will try soon enough! I just recently discovered the back dining area (!!!), great to study, chat or read. They sell boxes of organic looseleaf teas and they smell wonderful! Perfect for gift giving. Great coffee, but some of the policy changes recently make this place lose its luster. I used to be able to buy a lb of coffee beans and get a free beverage of my choosing from the barista, but now only drip coffee with the purchase. Obviously an attempt to make more money, but the only reason to buy a lb from here is with the free latte. Around the corner at Whole Foods you can get ground work coffee by the lb for waaaaay cheaper. I want to support my local coffee shop, but at a certain point it has to be financially viable. read more

Since I've seen Superbad more times than any grown up should confess, I'm not above admitting I love me some McLovin, so when I saw Groundworks McLovin Egg sandwich today while ordering my (absofuckinglutely perfect thankyouverymuch) iced latté with a little head and just the right balance of richness and cream, I knew it had to be mine. English muffin, free range egg, prosciutto, provolone and garlic aioli. It was f'in goooood. Only complaint... it got warmed up in something other than a toaster oven rendering my muffin chewy when I like my muffins soft and fluffy the way a muffin should be, but it was so tasty I was totally unfazed. Great vibe and location here on Rose in Venice, cool friendly dudes workin' the counter, awesome selection of coffee condiments (including simple syrup for those who like it iced when the mercury gets to climbin') and lots of cool things to look at and check out like the antique coffee and tea pots lining some very high shelves above.
