I have no reason to give them anything less than 5 stars. There is nothing off here. The atmosphere is retro, the place is bright with lots of natural light. They play nice catchy 80's music. You find all kinds of different seating arrangements, so everything will be happy. The only downside is that they use Monin flavors, but that's a personal preference. I would definitely come here to work or study since the music is not super loud. Our server was friendly and accommodating. They do not have any vegan options... They roast their own coffee. This was a cool little coffee joint in Hood River. I had a pretty tasty egg sandwhich, coffee, & a Limonata (for the road), and my g-friend had a coffee and a yogurty granola-y thingie. They have free wifi, so we were able to get some business done here before getting back on the road. Awesome place, nice decor and space. Okay service... I can't really think of much else to say because I was so distracted by the staff. Very Oregon hipster, us/them. No eye contact, no conversation or ease, just 'we're back here working and having fun, and maybe we'll glare your way sometime, if you're lucky.' One of my favorite coffee place in the UNIVERSE. They have tasty peppered bacon (try the BLT), refreshing iced coffees, all the normal latte/mocha/blahblah plus some, blended drinks, beer, etc. My honey loves the egg sandwich in the AM. Basically I like the vibe, the free computers, free wifi, bar with seats, newspapers lying around, decor, etc. Thumbs up, people. read more

We always hit this place up when we go to Hood River. It's one of my favorite independent coffee shops, and it's perfect! Love that they always have a smile, quick service, and a great selection of stuff for breakfast. My only complaint is that Hood River really doesn't have a place for a little dessert after dinner, and this spot would be perfect - but they close way too early. Great spot! We look for local stops along our travels. Today we were headed from Hillsboro to Spokane and were ready to java up at 0700! Easy off and on access and of course HR is always picturesque and charming especially in the morning when it is quiet and calm. Ambience and decor are fun and relaxing. Good use of space for multiple uses. I'd feel comfortable alone to work/study or to bring some friends to hang . Very clean. Loved the local photos, local pottery mugs, and the fabric "headboard". Music playing at just the right level. Staff were friendly and engaging- Really appreciate that quality. Baked goods (chocolate orange roll and apple cake) were well flavored and the right density and moisture. Hemp latte for fun - loved the nutty contrast the milk gives. Americano was smooth and balanced. Missed the special and would have totally got the honey lavender latte. Oh well - there's always the trip home. read more

After a few lazy mornings in Hood River checking out the downtown coffee house scene, I give "best of" props to Grind. Many of the other places in town are very good, but Grind's combo of good coffee, great breakfast sandwiches, niceness behind the counter and timely service put it on top. I liked Doppio, but Slowppio would be a more accurate name...even when it's not that busy. Outside of downtown, 10-Speed Coffee Co. on 13th was amazing. read more

My favorite coffee places in town all get 5 stars and they have different aspects that I equally appreciate. 10-SPEED - Chill vibe, friendly staff, less busy than others because it's not downtown, which makes it especially great in the summer. KICKSTAND - Best food, great outdoor and indoor seating. Louder and more social than the others so it's better for larger groups and mingling. And they have coffeebeans and cool logo merchandise for sale! GROUND - Always plays the best music. Good work space and good for meetings. DOPPIO - Best working space coffeehouse in the winter. Ground control right here. Sweet little coffee spot complete with organic teas as well as their coffee is organic/free trade. It feels very local too which is a lovely touch since it's also a place for tourists. They have art up that's pretty fun and they've got a ton of local posted info on their bulletin boards to keep up with what's going on up the street. My good friend and colleague Vic and his wife Sandy have recently moved from Orange County to their summer home in Hood River and now that he is in closer proximity we collaborate on a number of initiatives and projects in Hood River and Portland. That said, the first thing we go for when I get into town is coffee. Ground always has great coffee and hot scones when we come in in the morning. If you like your coffee shop to have not only good coffee but also a fairly extensive breakfast and lunch menu, plus beer and wine, then Ground might be your place in Hood River. We stopped in this morning to grab a quick bite of breakfast. I'm not a bread person (ssh!), so I usually avoid combining "breakfast" and "coffee shop". Because as enticing as baked goods can look, they don't get breakfast done: too sweet, and you're hungry in an hour. Fortunately, Ground has a nice little menu with a couple of breakfast sandwiches (egg, Tillamook cheddar and optional bacon or veggie patty, or egg, basil, fresh mozzarella, and optional prosciutto) plus various granola/yogurt combos. Lots of paninis and salads on the lunch menu. My sandwich was fresh and tasty, with a perfectly fried egg and nice salty bacon. If I were looking to hang out in a Hood River coffee shop, I'd probably go down the street to Dog River. But if I wanted something to eat with my cofee (and maybe a glass of wine or a sip of beer instead!), I'd head to Ground. read more

Let me just say, this was the first coffee shop we stopped into when we arrived in hood river and I was immediately enamored. The atmosphere is charming and the people were super helpful, plus who doesn't love a coffee shop that also serves beer and wine?! I had the turkey and pesto panini and a peach honey kmbocha, both were delightful. Boyfriend had an ice tea and a variation of my sandwich that had prosciutto (you can take the boy out of Italy but you can't take the Italian outta the boy). We were all very pleased! read more

I had a beer and a breakfast sandwich. The beer was a decent blonde ipa. But the breakfast sandwich, on a homemade bagel, was the best I have had in a long time. It had excellent bacon, a perfectly cooked egg, a flavorful tomato, and cheese. I didn't mean to eat so much, but after eating my sandwich and finishing my wife's, we got another homemade bagel for the road (so good that it doesn't need to be even toasted to be enjoyed), and we also got a bacon and cheese croissant, and a ham and cheese croissant, and both of those were also excellent. Everything here is worth driving far out of your way to get - and it is basically right off 84. If I am ever anywhere near here at breakfast time again, I will make it a point to return. read more

Great micro roaster in Hood River. We happened in on our way to the Hood River Fair Grounds to watch the Oregon Trail Rally. Very clean shop with great selection of pastries, healthy goodies too like a granola yogurt parfait, which we shared. The Coffee was awesome, we both opted for espresso drinks. The servers were friendly and helpful, the rest rooms were clean. What more could you ask for? read more

This is one of my favorite places ever to get coffee. I would go here all the time if I lived in Hood River, and rarely do I go through the town without a stop for espresso here. They have excellent baristas who also make an awesome egg sandwich. Other baked goods are fine too. The decor is lovely, prices good, and it's never packed. I haven't tried their wireless. read more
