Groovy Duck has me quacking with joy! This is a cute bakery tucked away in a small shopping plaza. I've wanted to try this place for years so I'm glad it was an Offline option. Here are the deets: I tried their duck shaped shortbread cookies and pound cake. Loved the cookies, and they are great with coffee, and my office loved them too. The pound cake did not wow me, but I would try it again. The staff? Helpful and very upbeat. The whole experience? Worth flocking to again. Ordered my birthday cake from Groovy Duck Bakery and to be honest I was a little disappointed. Looking at some of their other cakes, I may have set my expectations a little too high. Of the many cakes they offer online I finally decided on the Mango Mojito cake!. I wanted something diffrrent. They asked what I wanted written and I said a capital letter "D" the Leo Symbol and a "crown" (since Leo's are kings/queens) They said the crown would be an additional charge, no problem. they asked if I wanted green or white frosting and I asked if blue could be done, and I didn't care what shade of blue. They asked if I wanted any accent colors/decoration on the cake and I said I don't care, I'll leave that up to you just make it nice. I was thinking the cake decorator would get creative fancy or something, especially since I was open to the design/color, it was for a birthday, and already paying extra for a "crown" TBH I would have paid whatever it took for a really nice cake. The taste wasn't bad. I was expecting a slightly bolder flavor especially with a name like "Mango Mojito" cake but nothing stood out. There were some random bursts of mango. It tasted better cold/chilled but as it got warmer the flavors just kinda blended together. The cake did have a nice texture. It was done on time! Customer service was top notch. This was my first cake in North Carolina so I dont know how cakes are done here and have no other NC bakery to compare it to. Maybe decorating isn't their forté... Groovy Duck Bakery was a completely random find, but I'm so glad I stopped in. I ordered their vanilla chai latte and an Amish muffin, and both were excellent. The latte was made exactly the way I asked -- perfectly balanced and full of flavor. The Amish muffin was fresh, tasty, and the perfect pairing. Uh, yes, yum, 10/10, can't wait to come again. We got a strawberry peach cobbler muffin, a cinnamon pumpkin muffin, a double chocolate Oreo cookie and then a chocolate chip cookie and they were all delicious! The muffin had actual peach chunks in it. Pumpkin muffin was my fav. The only thing we could've done without was the chocolate chip cookie, but everything else sent us to another universe. I am absolutely obsessed with Groovy Duck Bakery! I first discovered it when I was googling places with german chocolate cupcakes for my mom's birthday back in March. I showed up thinking I would just get one large german chocolate cupcake, and I ended up leaving with 4 flavors of cupcakes, as well as a few delicious muffins. When I was thinking about doing a gender reveal cake, I knew this is where I would go! I brought in the envelope with my baby's sex on Wednesday afternoon and they had the cake ready for me on Saturday morning! I called multiple times to make some edits to the cake, and they were so incredibly accommodating. Of course I got cookies when I dropped off the sex envelope AND when I picked up the cake. Their chunky cookies are unbelievably good - I usually inhale them in the parking lot. Everyone that works here is fabulous, so welcoming, and incredibly accommodating. Wish this had gone better. After 'following' them on FB for probably two years, I finally looked up the address and made a special trip to check them out. Other than the cute name and branding, and creative sounding drink names on the whiteboard, I couldn't understand why this place got so many good reviews. Perhaps it's the sign up front saying you get a free muffin for a five star review. Not cool and a violation of Yelp and Google terms. Service: inexplicably slow waiting in line to order, but unfortunately really fast when the cashier skips past the screens giving you your rewards points, so you don't receive any. There was an elderly woman with a cane who couldn't carry her goods and they offered to get it to the car for her. That was really sweet to see. Cost: I felt this was overpriced for what was 'basic' atmosphere and offerings. $10 for two items, and one of them I couldn't even swallow. Imagine paying $1 per doughnut hole, that also tasted so bad you had to spit it into a Kleenex. Food: There was not that much selection in the cases and it seemed a bit random? A number of the items, like the muffins and the seasonal frosted 'ghost' tarts, were not uniform or professionally executed. People seem to enjoy their custom cakes, but what was in the case was less impressive than a grocery bakery. The cakes weren't lined up and the ones with writing on them weren't even facing the customers in the glass case, as if they were all just shoved in there for storage vs. on display. What I ordered: 1) White Chocolate Raspberry "Blondie:" it's a square of chess pie. Not a blondie. Tasty for fresh chess pie 'bar.' 2) Cheese bites. Like eating waxy, congealed snot rolls. I kid you not. I gagged and literally spat out the first bite into a tissue. If this was a trial new recipe item, I wouldn't recommend continuing it. And since you must buy them in half dozen increments, I now had five more...to try to toast to see if that fixed things?...or throw my money away in the trash? I was actually so mad at this point, I wanted my money back. And after sitting in the car thinking about it, walked back in to do just that. I'm a big fan of Groovy Duck Bakery for custom cakes. My husband ordered my birthday cake here and it was as beautiful as it was delicious. His feedback to them for decorating was "make it fancy." They understood the assignment it had cute flowers, gold detail, and all around was just pretty. It was a chocolate hazelnut cake with buttercream. Their buttercream was so freaking good, it wasn't too sweet, and it was super smooth and light. The cake itself was moist and flavorful. I would definitely order a cake from them again. Their custom cake prices are also very reasonable. I also appreciate when Hanukkah rolls around they do all sorts of speciality cookies to celebrate and it's not just all about Christmas. My all time favorite thing I tried was a bread bowl filled with a blend of cheeses and pesto. I'm still dreaming about it and it's been weeks. Quaint little bakery and coffee shop that I popped into because it came up on my GPS headed home from the mall. Atmosphere is really relaxing and clean, the one person working you could tell she was overwhelmed but was definitely making sure everyone received what they needed and apologized for the small wait. I only got a latte which was ok, temp was luke warm. The baked goods looked amazing and everyone was coming in to pick up a cake so I'll definitely stop back in. read more

Another coffee shop tried out with my visiting friend and was sorely disappointed. Bought two coffees. Iced mocha and iced lavender latte as those were what we were testing at other shops. Staff was friendly but coffee was just ok. We got a raspberry white chocolate bar that was delicious. The peach muffin we had was not great. The crumb topping was nice and crispy but the muffin lacked flavor. I'd buy the raspberry bar again in a heartbeat but would skip the coffee. Pretty disappointed. read more

I was afraid it was too last minute but they were happily able to do these designs for me! I love the pikachu! I would say if you have a large order or a cake then call a couple or few weeks in advance! I didn't realize how custom their designs were so I def will order from them for another birthday but this time more detailed designs. Beautiful and yummy! We really enjoyed the cookie dough cupcake. When I was searching for the perfect place to order my wedding cake, I went through quite a few locations including all the local grocery store locations. Lowes Foods consistently had rude and impatient service, while Whole Foods had delicious cake but no delivery service. I was looking online for a local bakery that would have delicious cake and also delivery service available, and many locals on Nextdoor recommended Groovy Duck Bakery. My husband and I did 2 cake tastings with them because there were so many delicious flavors to choose from! Because we liked so many we decided to order a larger cake in the flavor Mango Mojito and additional cupcakes in vanilla, strawberry, and banana split. I also liked that they were very easy to reach, since I work a busy job so I had to resort to most of my communication through email, but during the weekends they were equally as reachable over the phone as they were through emails. The bakery also offers consultation with the cake tasting, which I highly recommend as they gave us the idea of having a larger cake and additional cupcakes so we can have all the flavors we wanted at our wedding! I plan to order a mango mojito cake the next year for my 1 year anniversary. So glad to have found this lovely local bakery! read more

Holy Moly what a gem! I was just almo go up a storm at the NCMA trails, and a yawn or two kept getting to me. Pulling out my handy list I found a cafe with such a fun name I had to try it out- come on Groovy Duck that's awesome! Going in it's unassuming and a bit tucked away, but such a close drive from the museum 100% worth it. The decor isn't kitschy it's refreshing- the tables are painted with characters and some have a checkerboard too. When I went it was towards the end of the day, so supplies were limited (a good sign for a bakery)- I grabbed a Chocolate cookie, Amish Friendship (muffin) and Dear John Latte as a treat.... I'd like a chocolate cookie stat! The chocolate cookie is was literally perfect- firm, but not crunchy. Salty and sweet balanced without punching you in the teeth and the size it was split between two people very easily- no regrets! Dear John Latte was refreshing and I subbed oat milk in to the 8oz option, and the taste again wasn't in your face with sweet syrups- I asked for half pumps too. The lady was very sweet and helpful. She seemed attentive and took care of everyone fast. My husband got a cupcake and that's probably the thing to get from here. I have gone to groovy duck for the past 8yrs for a various of occasions when I needed a special cake made. I have always loved them, the experience, the cake and most of all - the awesome design work. They are a little pricy but the past 8years it has been worth it. This year it was completely different. Ordered a Minecraft cake...for $85. Once again more expensive than normal but I figured with all the past it would be epic...what I received was an absolute joke. My 6year old could have done better than this. Asked for a manager email but couldn't give one. Brushed off and on to the next person they could rip off.
