Two of my girlfriends and I stopped in for lunch. It was a little busy but we were seated quickly. We ordered and it took about 30 minutes to get our food. My two friends ordered the hamburger. They stated there was a different taste like horseradish in the mustard. I ordered the Reuben sandwich with fries. The sauerkraut was pickled red cabbage. A little different than I was used to having on my Reuben sandwiches at other restaurants. I never received my fry sauce after being told it was being brought over right away. We saw our server at other tables but he never came by to see if we needed anything. He never refilled our water glasses. We did see the hostess help deliver food so most likely they were too busy or short staffed. I need to return to ensure this was not an off day for the restaurant. read more

The steak was cooked to perfection. The twice baked potato was the bomb. Paired it with a tasty whiskey sour. Finished the dinner with this fabulous strawberry biscuit shortcake dessert. read more

Another great eatery in the Indian Creek neighborhood. My lunchmate declared his the "best turkey [Club] sandwich I've ever had!" The table shared and all approved the Crispy Cauliflower and Butternut Squash--with an interesting and tasty "Cilantro Cashew Chutney." Love that they offer dark-meat chicken! The "slow-fried" chicken is terrific but does take 15-20 minutes. I was able to have mine with a pearl-sugar biscuit and a (wait for it....) tequila, chorizo gravy (!!). This was actually all a bit sweet for me, but I had focused on the "fried chicken" part of it all. Biscuit texture was fabulous, and a crisp face held up against the nice light gravy. Another friend liked her fish-and-chips, but declared it "normal." The place is a little on the cold and dark side (but it was a dark and snowy day too), and also, a bit too noisy for comfortable conversation. BUT, I'd go back instantly, since there's much more on the menu that beckons. NOTE that the online menu does not reflect all current offerings; the in-house menu is much more robust, and if you phone for take-out, you'll have a better selection too. read more

WOW what a wonderful gem in downtown Caldwell. Great service, excellent food, we were not disappointed!! This is as good as any foodie restaurant in the valley. Good sized portions for a decent prices and flavorful, well thought out food. I am impressed and a little disappointed this is my first visit but oh, yes, I WILL be back. Crispy cauliflower with cashew chutney- flavor explosion in my mouth! One of the best appetizers I have ever had. Loved it. Ate it. Almost licked the plate. Pork tacos- 3 tacos with a generous amount of shredded delicious pork, pickled onions, shredded lettuce and drizzle of sauce. Really really good. Grit dip- French dip on a baguette with jalapeño cheese, Kobe beef, and bacon. My husband said "I don't know what was in it but it was delicious." Word. Highly recommend trying this place- well executed food & something for everyone. read more

This has rocket up to the top of my list so of go to places! The food is fantastic and the service has been great every time we've been here. The fried vegetables are delicious and come with a tantalizing sauce, my wife and I ended up battling over who got the last cauliflower while we waited for our main dish. I ended up getting their sandwich with au jus and I could hardly put it down once I started. Everything was cooked perfectly and very savory. As I was finishing I was already planning the next time we'd be able to return (surprise, it was maybe a week later)! The second time was just as good, but this time I got the special (pepperoni cheeseburger) - still as amazing! This is a "go to place" that is a top notch eatery in downtown Caldwell. read more

Last night be walked in with a large party, put our name down, and were told to return in 45 min for a table. When we returned after 45 min the hostess said, "oh I was going to call you, there's no way we can accommodate your party. I have to prioritize our reservations first." We reminded her that we had been waiting for 45 min as instructed and she just shrugged and said it would be over an hour more if we still wanted to wait. We left for another restaurant and got a call about an hour later saying our table was ready. We reminded the caller what had happened and she said "I never said that." It was so strange and a terrible experience. I totally understand not being able to accommodate a large party without a reservation, but the hostess should have called us right away if it was going to be a problem instead of waiting until we returned after a 45 min wait expecting a table. read more

Was good when we went. Good staff good food. Would eat here again. Food definitely was fresh.

Went here for lunch with my mom and husband. This is a very nice casual eatery, that isn't too loud so you can actually enjoy the conversation. This place has delicious fresh food! You can tell the kitchen puts a lot of care into their food and it shows! We had Valerie as our server and she was absolutely wonderful, gave us just enough attention even with many full tables around us. My husband had the bacon chicken Alfredo which was delicious! My mom and I split the spicy chicken fried chicken and the farro salad with salmon. Both had very complex flavors that worked so well together. This is a great place to go as a group to catch up and also seems kid friendly! We cannot wait to visit again! read more

Three generations came together to celebrate my mom's 82nd birthday & Grit 2C did not disappoint! The beef dip was amazing & the homemade ranch dressing with the fries was so tasty! Whenever we come to Caldwell to have our vehicle serviced we always eat at Amano's. Thursday evening and they were closed for some reason. So glad we discovered Grit 2C. Cool place. Weren't we lucky? I love me some Poutine and theirs was to die for. Very tasty pulled pork on top, fries and a ton of cheese curds buried under the gravy. Absolute deliciousness. The app was large enough for four people. Party of two and we ate it all. Pure gluttony. Needless to say I was full by the time our main meal came. I ordered the Grit Dip which was tasty but nothing extraordinary. Side choices were fries, chips and salsa or a house salad. Selected the house salad. One of the best salads I've ever eaten. Fresh, crispy mixed greens, carrots, cukes, tiny croutons (which I loved), maple pecans and shaved Parmesan. Lemon vinaigrette on the side. All those flavors melded together was pure perfection. I would come back just for the salad. Husband had the bacon jam grilled cheese and he said it was very good. This restaurant is a keeper! read more

We stopped in with family on a recent visit to ID. What a wonderful surprise this cafe in Caldwell was! We were immediately greeted and seated for lunch. The staff was beyond friendly and answered all questions about the menu/drinks. We had two young children with us who were a bit undecided about what to eat, but our server was more than patient. The atmosphere was somewhat modern, but cozy at the same time. Just a lovely experience all around. The food was some of the best we've had in the area. They put their own spin on some classic dishes and hit a home run with each one. I wish I could remember what everyone ate, but there were a few that really stuck out in my mind. I had not had Fried Jalapeños (NOT Poppers) since I last visited SC, but they were on the menu here. Of course we ordered them as a starter - House Pickled Jalapenos, battered and fried with Green Goddess Dipping Sauce. Delicious!! The perfect precursor for the meal to come. I was torn on what to order, but finally settled on the Grit Dip - Smoked Angus Beef, Pepper Relish Jam, Cheddar Cheese, Black Pepper Sauce, Crispy Onions on a Baguette with Chipotle Bacon Au Jus. Just a bit of flair to an old classic and oh so good. Against my better judgement, I ate most of my sandwich! Our group also had the Cuban - Smoked Pork Shoulder, Tasso Ham, Swiss, Dijon Jalapeno Cheese Whiz, Grilled Citrus Mojo, and Pickles on a pressed Baguette and a Brisket sandwich on special the day we stopped in. Everything was flavorful and well prepared. Cocktails as well as local and domestic beer and wine round out the menu. I found pricing to be on par with what I would expect for the great quality food we were served. I will return to ID for a visit with family and when I do, I will head to Grit to try some other menu offerings! Highly recommend!! read more

I love this place! I've been here 3 times now because I want to try everything on their menu!!! The food is so good and the staff is amazing. From the hostess to each server we've had, I have had the nicest, most incredible service. I brought my father in law here and he is quite the chef himself so he's a lil hard to impress, but boy was he impressed. He had the Grit burger and it was "phenomenal" according to him. This most recent visit, I had the shrimp and cheesy bacon grits. WOW! So good. So much flavor in every bite. My daughter loves their chicken and bacon Alfredo. Sometimes Alfredo's can be bland but not this one! I will keep coming back to try new things. Great family atmosphere. read more

Grit 2C is a treat! They closed down for a while during the thick of pandemic. I couldn't blame them. We really missed their staff, and the unique menu! Home style, classic foods. Poutine, amazing salads, great selections of beer. They are a bit on the $$ side, but I think they know what they have. Classy and tasty are worth the time and attention that you get! read more

Great food locally sourced. Really good can't go wrong. Christian was our server and a strait up rock star

Excellent food!!! Chorizo taquitos are so delicious and Pad Thai noodle so tasty. Service was good. Pleasant vibe

Food - This time the wife got a spring salad with steak. It came out separated, so you could build your own bites. Steak was juicy, the goat cheese was plenty, the beets were left alone and untouched as they should be, and everything else on the plate was fresh and tasty! I got the Rockfish Tacos. They were really flavorful, with zero fishy taste. The mild fish, the slaw, and all the sauces really made these tacos delicious. read more

What a gem! For 15 years, we've come through the area on our annual cross country road trips, and found Brick 29 in Nampa shortly after they opened. We loved everything about their food, cocktails and service for years, but found less and less of the quaint charm as they expanded and morphed in recent years. This year, I searched Yelp for an alternative and Grit 2C scratched exactly that itch. The service was fast, attentive and so warm. The cocktails were seasonal and spectacular - an apple butter martini and peach Moscow mule were divine twists on standard drinks and the Bloody Mary was perfect. And the food was amazing - fresh, delicious and beautiful. The home made tortilla chips were addictive. The salsa was thick and smoky. The ceviche was perfect and the quinoa salad with salmon was a joy to my taste buds. Treat yourself and enjoy this lovely cuisine! read more

We took some friends here for dinner last night. Service was great, but the food was terrible. None of us (4) enjoyed our food. The fish and chips was oil soaked and dripping with oil. The 3 others all had the beef dip sandwiches. The "pepper sauce" on the sandwiches was overbearing. None us ate much of our food. We won't return here. read more

Yes looking forward to another trip Our table ordered 2 Cob Salads 1 Grit burger with fries 1 Taco plate (3 Tacos) and a choice of another item. We all left happy. This restaurant doesn't seem like a good fit for Caldwell. First, they seem overly image conscious, trying to shove customers that may not look like the Sunday Best Mimosa crowd to the bar or the back of the restaurant. That's not going to last long in Caldwell, like it or not we're a sometimes inappropriately casual town, but our money is as green as anyone else's. Second, their manager seems like she just graduated from her Food Waste Management class in culinary school, because she is more than willing to lecture customers on why she can't remake an item on the menu because it's the customer's fault. Maybe she'll improve once she gets to the Hospitality and Customer Service class. In any case, if they think their restaurant is too good for me, that's fine, there's plenty of other places in the area more than glad to take my money. Maybe the service is better if you're one of the fussy elite types. read more

We are in Caldwell just for one night and used Yelp to select two restaurants that sounded good. We are so happy out first choice was closed and we went to Grit 2C! The diverse menu was what attracted us and they delivered on it. We started with the Ahi Ceviche which is not something I would expect in Idaho but it sounded worth a try. Winner! Winner! It is comparable to the Ceviche we love from a Peruvian restaurant in Phoenix. We planned to split it as an appetizer. The price made us think it would be a small offering . Wrong! It could be a meal in itself. Our entrees are in danger of being dogie-bagged. The DW opted for the Cuban Sandwich with chips. The Dijon Jalapeno Cheese Whiz sounded scary but is made in-house and was the perfect accent. My Grit Dip takes a classic French Dip to another level. The Au Jus is the best I have ever had. I would have drunk the remaining liquid had there been any. The accompanying fries were obviously house made and not previously frozen. Done perfectly. The staff are personable and efficient. Even the lady I believe to be the owner stopped by and conversed with us for a while. Very interesting. The next time we are in the area, we will be back here. read more

Husband and I decided to check this out and we are so glad we did! Stopped by on a Saturday around 5:30pm, no need to wait for a table yet. I had a hard time deciding since so many items looked drool worthy! Finally settled on the Thornburger Double with Farro salad. I am a big eater at dinner time and this was a LOT of food for me which is rare. It was delicious!! The burger had 10% bacon already in it and the hamburger was tasty and on the lean side. Betting it comes from the local McIntyre Farms, grass fed cows? My husband spent no time making his decision as soon as he realized it was a Saturday night and they had Prime Rib!! It instantly became his new favorite prime rib/steak place in Canyon County. He is used to having the normal bread/salad included when he orders so was a tad disappointed the waitress didn't ask if he wanted to order one or point out that it wasn't included. The twice fried potatoes with bacon and cheese almost made up for it...the only other down side is that this place seems a tad over priced and the service wasn't stellar, our water glasses sat empty half of the meal and we were thirsty! Still never got them filled but food was good enough that we will return!! read more

This was our first time here. My daughter really talked it up. I am a bit of a beer snob, and they had a limited selection. They did have a fairly large list of specialty mixed drinks. We started with the poutine, which was very good. A generous portion for sharing, or just have it as a meal. The cauliflower/squash was a table hit. Cashew chutney had a bit of spice to it. Main course: I had the soup of the day. Salmon Chowder. Good choice. I eat soup often, and this soup was exceptional. A little creamy, a little spicy and well-seasoned. Also ordered at my table and not pictured- 2C burger and Grit Dip. Everyone was happy with their meal, the 2C burger had bacon and fried onion straws and looked good. No room for desserts, but I hear they sometimes have empanadas. We'll have to try that on our next visit. Give them a try if you like well seasoned unique flavors- something for everyone here. read more

Best food served in Caldwell, and good enough to drive from Coeur D'Alene for to be honest. If you're local, try it soon. Try it frequently. There's absolutely no way the current chef and staff doesn't get stolen by a larger operation before too long. Every meal we've had was "the best ever". Everyone at the tables around us enthused about how wonderful their dishes were. The serving staff was exemplary. I can't say enough about the people who have taken care of us, and how much we've enjoyed it. There are other places nearby with bigger names and older reputations...and they don't hold a candle to Grit 2C. The next time we go down to Indian Creek Plaza I can assure you it's Grit 2C we're excited to visit. read more

On our third try getting a seat at this restaurant we were disappointed. #1 the hosts do not like kiddos...hopefully they will never have any #2 the atmosphere is more like a bar (loud & busy) that a sit down for date night #3 fish tacos had a good presentation, but lost its flavor...like most Idaho breed restaurants #4 long island ice tea should taste like one...not like water #5 our waitress was really good and we tipped her well read more
